The enhanced versions were always a tough sale for this reason. Either you bought the originals and then don’t have much reason to buy a fully priced enhanced version of the game you already played, or you purposefully waited for the enhanced version but you don’t even know if it’s coming or not. Plenty of people avoided buying XY because they wanted to wait for Pokémon Z, but it never came
Emerald and Platinum, despite being considered two of the best games in the entire franchise, didn't sell particularly well because players and critics didn't feel there were enough changes to R/S and D/P to warrant paying full price for a new game. That's probably why Gamefreak stopped selling a third "definitive edition" game for each generation. We all remember them as masterpieces however, because A.) They WERE masterpieces, and B.) We have emulators now and can play said masterpieces for free.
Short and sweet answer: The definition of “faithful remake” was so *EXTREMELY* taken to heart in their production that they didn’t fix the original bugs and glitches Diamond and Pearl had and left them in. They also left in the obnoxious Gym that required math solving skills to progress that Platinum removed completely. Oh, and the Game Corner didn’t come back in the same capacity. No Battle Frontier as well, I think.

Jesus Christ, just spit it out! It's a RU-vid short, and you STILL managed to fill 90% of it with filler. Who cares that the first gen released in 1996? That's completely irrelevant to the sales numbers. It's the kind of thing you'd put in a school essay to meet a minimum word count. Most creators struggle to _cut_ enough content to make them fit within RU-vid Shorts' time limit, but you somehow managed to have the opposite problem!

Crystal only had 3 million and then was followed by emerald with 7 million. Crazy when those were some of the best games of their respective pokemon generations.
Black/White are really flawed, but the story and characters are really charming. Maybe not the most replayable game, but definitely worth a playthrough. Black 2/White 2 on the other hand went a little lighter on the story but in return pretty much fixed every single flaw present in Black/white and added some really great long-term content with the PWT and Black Tower/White Treehollow. To this day i consider Black 2/White 2 the most repayable games that don't feel aged at all
Well if your mum was like mine I was only getting one game. So I got diamond and had to watch my friends play platinum. I only got platinum when I got older and could buy stuff for myself.
@@tcg-channel3761 HECK yeah my dude. Those were the best hands down. I remember finishing the New Region and then finding a secret path connected to the ORIGINAL region with TONS of more content. It was like two games in one.
I think I’m gonna get some backlash for saying this but my favorite Pokemon games were X and Y, because I used to think mega evolution was the coolest thing to exist, the only thing I didn’t like about these games were there weren’t enough mega evolutions.
@zacariahandersonyeah man Crystal has always been my favorite and while gen 3 improved on mechanics the pokemon designs while not bad doesn't compare to gen 2. And it's been downhill from there. To the point I don't even have a desire to catch most of the new ones.
Gold was the first game I played (but it was only borrowed), then I got myself Sapphire and I was so amazed by the graphic, it was like night and day to me XD

The majority of people who bought Diamond or Pearl either were kids who couldn’t convince their parents to buy what was “basically just a copy of the game they already owned,” or adults who couldn’t convince themselves the same thing… Especially when games are always so disproportionately expensive
It wasn’t the worst selling because it was a bad game. It was the worst selling because many people believed it didn’t add enough content, and wasn’t worth buying after playing Diamond and Pearl.
That Darkrai brought back memories!! I had a Darkrai that I used against my friends that was unbeatable!! It was so insanely fast that I would put them to sleep immediately then throw on a nightmare and watch their life slowly seep away. My friends hated it and I remember everyone at school working together to try to figure out a way to beat my Darkrai 😂 Good times

That’s a feature I’m shocked hasn’t made a return in any modern games/remakes. I remember when Black and White first came out I was so used to HG/SS I was certain you’d be able to go back to Sinnoh, but, alas, it wasn’t true

@@Appleguy a fleshed out and diverse region on its own is better than two generic barebones regions like johto and kanto. to make two quality regions in one game it would take a massive amount of time. GSC were rushed and HGSS brought many of the issues of blandness along, this wasn’t an example of more content and better quality, it was more content of low quality.

I mean... if you think about it, it makes sense why Crystal, Emerald and Platinum were the worst selling games. It's not that they were bad or anything. They just didn't sell well, because when they came out, most people already had the previous version of those games, so buying another version that didn't actually add that much compared to the original was just not worth the price for most people. They're still the definitive versions of generations 2,3 and 4 though, and definitely the best way to play them. There's a good reason, why they cost a small fortune in online markets now.
I feel like the reason is sold less. Was cause of it's situation and the way it was sold. Pearl and diamond came out first and most people bought both. Platinum was basically a fusion of the two with some story difference and it came out like a half year post their release or som And for people who had diamond and pearl or just one didn't feel like buying it.
Pokemon RSE by far the best. Still the only game you can dive underwater in. The Hoenn years were the best in the anime too. It was peak Ash Brock and Misty with May and Max. Pokemon contests added a lot to the show.
Platinum is such a good game! I played it in an emulator a while ago and I can't remember how much time of my life I spent in it! Approximately 500 hours, I guess. The Team Galactic arc was good, and the Spear Pillar was also perfect! It probably didn't sell well because people had already bought D/P which took like an eternity to deplete health and there weren't many changes from D/P to Pt. Although, Pt introduced a lot of new generation things.
@@AppleguyPokémon Black version it's hard to Level up when you defeat the Elite Four and Team Plasma and I noticed that after I returned to the Pokémon League the Elite Four members got a bit of a Boost which I only could defend one of them now so I never beaten the game which to me Team Plasma Ruined the Pokémon League for me!
That's the main reason why I'm not a fan of Unova Region Games and I never played either of Pokémon Black 2 or Pokémon White 2 because I didn't have the money back then but I was interested in those games anyways ! I'm a Fan of Mega Evolution!
I’ve never played a Mystery Dungeon game, except for the initial quiz to determine which Pokémon you’ll be. I don’t remember doing anything behind that. I’ll have to check them out some time
@@Appleguy the fan favorite is probably Pokèmon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky. Explorers (of Time) was actually my first Pokèmon Game ever, so i might be a little biased to say that it's one of the best Pokèmon Games ever. Also, the Pokèmon Ranger games are great as well.
Yo, I actually got a copy of Platinum in with a small box of random DS games and a flea market. Didn't even notice it at first till I got back to were I was sat up at.
Fire Red and Leaf Green were my childhood and will always be my favorite Pokémon game(s). I had both because neither me or my mum knew they were basically the exact same game lol. I have so many happy memories with that game and it is where my love for Pokémon grew strongest. I had played Pokémon games on the N64 before then but Fire Red/Leaf Green were my first handheld Pokémon games.
I’m probably biased, but IMO all of the gen 3 games were peak pokemon. Ruby Sapphire and Emerald were all amazing, and then they took what made them amazing and fused it with what made the originals amazing.
Except for Crystal(Silver let’s go) I always would wait to ask my mom for the 3rd iteration because by crystal I was like wait a min..”I have Yellow, Crystal’s now a thing..ah I see now, Pokémon”
I still pray and wish for a world where Nintendo gives Gamefreak enough money and time to give us a truly, fulfilling game like Platinum BUT just 1 release from the get go, all the Crystal/Emerald/Platinum stuff in the first release of this new gen. I bet you this will sell equal if not MORE than Red and Green ever did.
Black 2 was my First Pokémon Game, & I still hold it in my heart. I beat the Champion Twice, & I still hold my shiny event Dialga near & dear to my heart.
I used to play Pokemon when they originally came out, I had yellow green and red. Then I got hit with adulthood and I didn't play anymore. Then at a pawn shop about 3 years ago I found an old Nintendo color and it had a couple of games with it with Pokemon Black2 included. I bought it then for my youngest kid. He prefered to use his tablet instead, so I grabbed it and I didn't let go about 6 months ago. This game is so nostalgic and it's freaking awesome.
White 2 was the first game I ever played. Recently I've started putting together a living dex (going well btw) and replayed it, getting a shiny starter, oshawott, which happens to be my favourite starter and one of my favourite pokemon ever. This was my first ever full odds shiny, followed by a karrablast I randomly found and a much more recent pokemon legends arceus wurmple I randomly found. For anyone wondering, my first shiny was a tailow I found in ultra space
I absolutely adore the original Pokémon Silver. As well as Pokémon Blue. In that order. The first two gens that started it all will always have my heart ❤
Pokemon emerald for life, still remember the day going to the mall with grandma to pick it up on release. Till this day Rayquaza is still one the best legendaries ever.

Dude soulsilver/heartgold (or silver/gold) 2 Regions. 16 badges. Only game to have 16 Pokémon gyms. And it’s original kanto and johto too. In ss/hg you get 3rd gen Pokédex. Man I thought it was obvious. But I’ve playing since 98 when my friend got a blue version so I got a red version and played every game from beginning. I’ve been a Pokémaniac since before Ash and the anime existed. Maybe my taste are more old school.

Ever since I was 7, I wanted to play Pokemon, but my parents wouldnt get me the games. 6 years later, my grandma came in clutch and got me a Nintendo Switch with 4 games: Miitopia, Mario Odyssey, Animal Crossing, AND POKEMON SHIELD Thanks Grandma, for allowing me to finally accomplish my dream after 6 years

I was born 94 and I stopped playing due to how unimpressed I was with Black and Whites new Pokemon. But Pokemon FireRed, Emerald, and Diamond will always be the peak childhood handheld nostalgia for me 💯

I guess Emerald sold better is because they thought it's gonna be a completely different game from Ruby and Sapphire and they got a little disappointed about it being thesame with some minor changes just like basically buying a DLC with a full game price. And they didnt wanna make thesame mistake with Pokemon Platinum. That's why that third game trend just died.
Ah it makes sense. I stopped playing after gen 3 then came back to Pokemon many years later after X/Y due to mega evolutions. My favorite is Pokemon Silver.
The reason I didn't ask for it when I was little kid was there wasn't enough advertisement to let me know that it was different from diamond. Looking back now I wish I would have just asked for it for Christmas or something
Plat was the first pokemon game I i played back in 2008, it's remained my second favorite pokemon game of time and i have lot of nostalgia with it. I know it didn't sell well cuz it wasn't seen too different from D/P, but I love that game
I'm kind of partial to Gen II: Gold and Silver. Getting two entire regions crammed onto one cartridge is truly impressive. Nowadays, the Kanto region would probably be DLC for a Gold/Silver/Crystal remake.

I don’t think they’re purposefully making games with issues. I’ll agree they’re maybe changing some things about the series for cost-cutting or ease of production, but I doubt they’re doing things like the Scarlet/Violet memory leak on purpose
Pokemon emerald, I went from playing like a kid does using only attack moves no items etc. to learning that setting up mons and actually building a team that counters teams is more important than what looks cool
Pokemon Y was my favorite for a few reasons The reason for the bad guys was something i could agree with Froakie ( i will not say anymore about him) The story was one that was few and far between. From the king being obsessed with a pokemon to then trying to bring it back to learning what he did was wrong and accepting it. All the way to meeting tierno and helping him with shauna and serena. And at last the music. I loved the music
I loved Platinum, it was so sick, that was the first time I got a shinny pokemon it was a Green Zubat hahaha still I remember vividly how I stumbled upon him. Also Giratina was so cool at least when it was in its flying form, not the one with the chunky legs haha

Pokémon XD has my heart. I've played that game more times than I can count. I loved the concept of Shadow Pokémon and wish they'd bring it back in some way

Gen 4 was in that weird space where the kids growing up didnt really play pokemon again untill it was nostolgic again around gen 6. I had friends thats played gen 3 and never really played 4 and 5 tho my little brothers ten years younger did
I specifically remember it coming out in the USA, they tried to duplicate the yellow hype release but gold n silver were going strong on their own. Not to mention release date and availablility were super vague
It’s all about context. Platinum and Emerald were the ‘third’ games released not too long after their base editions. It was simply a harder sell to justify buying it the time (even though these are considered 2 of the best games). It’s sickening that the slop that they’ve served us in the Switch era is a best seller to other Pokemon games, because it’s so clear that it was the title that sold it and not the quality. Ironically, their numbers are bad relative to what they COULD have been if they were you know…good. Shills will disagree.

Platinun might not have sold good compared to the rest, but it had massive sales still, and is to This day one of the best and most wellmade Pokemon games.
Platinum has to be my second favourite, behind B2W2 as they were the first Pokémon games I ever played. Currently doung a SS playthrough because I've actually never played it before.

I loved Platinum. I even transferred all my legendary Pokémon over to it then my DS broke and I sold the game. To whoever got my copy with all the Pokémon and legendary Pokémon I had and transferred to platinum, I hope you didn’t delete my save file 😢
