In this episode we are staying in our East Neuk Campervan at Fort Augustus near Loch Ness at Loch Ness Caravan Park. It's January and the winter takes a turn for the worse when extreme 80mph winds forecast. It is here that we have some problems with our campervan and a small problem turns into a very expensive one! I cook us a nice cosy dinner in the slow cooker and I head into the village for a look around.

This campervan allows us the freedom of travelling in all seasons, we actually do most of our travelling in the Autumn/Winter as I have lupus disease | SLE | We stay on campsites & caravan touring parks, Aires & wild camp out in nature. We like to walk | hike with our cocker spaniel dog "Charlie" taking in breathtaking scenery of the countryside and the coast. There is something so magical about driving through the mountains and tourist areas in a campervan. Buying local produce to take back and cook in the campervan, or stopping at an independent shop for coffee and cake helping to support the local economy. Nightmare - at least you were on a site Em. One of those trips, we don't have a spare tyre on the van - just one of those silly inflatable kits! So a puncture, a leak and then just the 80mph winds what a trip!! 😨😨 And then no washing!! 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂ Hope you guys are doing ok at the moment - we just got back home after a month away so we're just catching up

Pleased you will be getting your tyre sorted out. Great you were on a site! Hard sorting that stuff out when you’re away from home. Love a slow cooked chilli. You did a good job there Em. Yeah, was a right pain with the mechanism snapping, hey ho! All sorted in the end 😊 The carrot worked well in the chilli & we so needed that comfort food 😂 Luckily, the leak was just a loose pipe 😅 Thanks Em 💜

How you stayed so calm under all those circumstances is beyond me. We use a Hytric Hot Pot instead of a slow cooker…..never thought about using a slow cooker in a campervan before…The things you learn from Vlogs😀

Bugger! Our winch failed on ours in the exact same way. We were lucky though - we were on the drive and I was just checking the spare wheel. EBay came to the rescue on that one. Sod’s Law though….the few winch needed a different tool/adapter, so back to eBay again!! We paid £80 for our winch though and I fitted it.

Ahh yeah I think it’s fairly common as they’re underneath and open to the elements salt, grit & rain I guess😊 Yeah, no way we were paying the price quoted for a new one from France 😟 In the end we sourced one from a company in Sheffield, so I think the whole thing with the new tyre & fitting it etc came to about £300 + (if my memory serves me right) Glad you managed to sort it out before you ended up in a similar predicament 😅 Thanks for watching & commenting, Em 💜

Oh gosh what a faff with the tyre. But I love how you still approach it positively and get on with it. There’s a lot of accidents on the road along Ness, really sad. Also a lot of landslides too along that road. We would love a camper and I know we can find one for us all to sleep in but being able to cook for all 6 of us would be so time consuming!? 🥴 That chilli looked yummy. Vans seem like houses always something going wrong or needing doing. Oh the Scottish Highlands weather is quite crazy especially in Winter. He he Charlie snoring made my dog prick his ears 🤣 Oh I hate thumbnails and titles figuring out what to use and how to title it is the hardest part I find for my channel too! Xxx

@@thehighlandlife2023 It was a faff 😂 but just one of those unfortunate things. Yeah people drive too fast on that road & often don’t drive to the road conditions. You could definitely manage to cook for 6 of you, might not be what you’d ordinarily cook at home though. Have you considered a Moho? A lot more space for a big family. 😁 The chilli worked out great in the little slow cooker 😋 Yeah, it certainly was stormy that trip, used to it from when we lived on Skye, but in a van 🚐 getting buffered is a problem, so always trying to point into the wind 😂 Thanks for watching & hope you’re all well? @@vansforthememoriesso true! So many people don’t drive to the conditions. I have thought about a Moho but tbh financially I just don’t think it would be sensible and probably cheaper to just carry on travelling around as we are with airbnbs as the costs and upkeep of most vehicles tend to be more costly than I think. We already run a truck and a van! Maybe one day but not right now at least. We are all well lovely. Xxx

we have a little slo cooker in Desmond, have yet to try it but will let you know how it goes, wish we had known you were having so many problems, you could have come and stayed at ours, electric hookup included. That's the problem with owning vehicles, they cost money when they break down. i have to phone the garage tomorrow to find out how much it is going to cost to get mine through it's mot.. ouch!!! These things always happen at the most inconvenient time possible. We lost a brake pad at Skara Brae (Tony's Top Tip - don't pick up a brake pad immediately after it has fallen off after being in use; they get a bit warm to say the least) about 18 hours before we were due to leave Orkney for the mainland. Fortunately, the recovery garage managed to source the spare parts and the lads in the workshop skipped their lunch hour to get us all sorted out in time for me to lose my breakfast on the ferry home early the next morning. As for your puncture, I would have had the tyre repaired or replaced locally, continued my holiday as normal and then had the wheel carrier mended when we got home. Our Charlie (and his step-brothers) have both ends of the carrots and the peelings. And potato peelings. And the end off the cucumber. Very little nmakes it past them to the bin.

Omg what a trip you had. Just not what you need when away and the expense 😢 I loved the cuddles with Charlie just the best tonic you needed that and chocolate. My Miss Inky our Scottish terrier passed last October and they are such a miss so I send a hug from me to Charlie. Hope you’re well and look forward to next video. I hope someday we meet up on a campsite . ❤
