In the anime, when Nami is breaking down in the street, Luffy hasn't even MET Arlong yet. He and the crew immediately go to Arlong Park, knock the wall down, and as the fishmen look at the intruders, Luffy says "Which one of you is Arlong?" Hasn't even seen the man before and is ready to knock him down.

I will not chill cause my one beef with the One Piece community is they are so excited they give the log book to a new adventurer. Luffy didn’t want the log book. Know what I’m saying? Let them have a cool adventure like we did. Blind and without people saying sub/dub and telling us to skip episodes and things. Also no hinting or hyping. You’re trying to make everyone have the same journey you did. Or rather your idea of the perfect journey. Stop it. You’re spoiling it! It’s not an adventure if people tell you step by step how to adventure it.

In the manga/anime, there's only one encounter in the series with scurvy with a bounty hunter and dropped info that it's pretty much an understood disease across the world with very few who aren't aware. On top of the sentimental moment, tangerines on the ship were likely a means to nip the constant thought of scurvy as a background monster in waiting.

In this series the whole Garp storyline is exactly what he tells Koby and Haircut at the end, his training methods are considered the worst kind of punishment. Garp knows the dangers and hardships his grandson is going to face in pursuit of his dream, and he’s making sure Luffy is ready. That being said he’s also a Grand-Admiral of the Marines so he can’t be seen taking it easy on a pirate. One of my favourite subtle through lines in the season is how Garp’s demeanour changes anytime someone claims the the Straw Hat pirate is ruthless, or bloodthirsty, he instantly knows that person can’t be trusted, and is on the wrong side of things. Things don’t tend to end well for Marines that tell Garp that Straw Hat Luffy is evil. It’s also how he knows right away that he can trust Koby, and why he takes him under his wing, he’s got the Luffy seal of approval.
@Ghostfailure33object27
@Ghostfailure33object27 3 месяца назад
One thing I love about the post-fight conversation between Gary and Luffy, someone else pointed out to me. When Garp says “youre on your own” it means something more. When Garp “took on the task” of tracking down the straw hat pirates, that meant that unless he called for backup, no other marines would really bother. So Garp was intentionally, maybe only partially, just so no other marines would and possible kill him. So now that Garp is “letting him go” it’s open season on the straw hats.

Ussop's fight scene loses a bit of nuance for how compressed it was; in the original he actually intended to just play dead and let Chew walk away, before realizing he'd never manage to be proud of himself if he gave up so easily, and called out to Chew to restart the fight before he had the slightest idea how he might win. He's still utterly terrified and spends a lot of the fight frantically improvising to stay out of trouble, before he manages the alcohol trick. It's a shame they didn't have room to adapt more of that sequence.

There's a running joke within One Piece that Ussop stories somewhat predicts the future story episodes in the One Piece series whenever he talks about his wild story adventures and pirating adventures. I'm really looking forward to Season 2 though and what they'll fit into season 2 since Season 2 is already confirmed and in production. There are hundreds of unique characters throughout One Piece. But we should be seeing more members joining in Luffy's crew in the next live-action season. If you do get into the animated One Piece series, Season 1 with Episodes 1-10 will be pretty much what you seen in the Live-Action, but has a little more to show.

Nah, live action Garp is right, Luffy really doesn't have a clue how dangerous the Grandline is. But it's about having the will to proceed regardless, which is what LA Garp was testing. The Garp in the anime/manga is very different, the LA made him a tertiary antagonist to better fit the format of a modern TV series. We also don't find out Garp's relationship to Luffy until episode 312, it's a HUGE reveal in the anime.

The thing is that Garp has his motivations beyond Luffy for meeting up with Luffy. He intentionally set it up to see if his new cadets would follow orders or stand up to him. That fight scene was almost as much for Koby as it was Luffy. Of course Garp is major concerned about Luffy as he says, but the reason he ramps it up in ep 6 and gets to the finale scene is to test Koby out.

Garp is the "Hero of the Marines", a true veteran of the seas, including the Grand Line, so he has a real undertanding of how dangerous it is out there. Luffy does not, that's why Garp is so worried about Luffy just dying because of the unpredictable nature of the grand line or getting killed by other pirates/bounty hunters/marines.

@nameless4222
@nameless4222 4 месяца назад
Imo he worked because he was introduced as a hardass Vice Admiral who's ready to punish fellow Marines like Morgan to uphold justice. He seemed like the proper type of Marine until his facade started cracking bit by bit the longer the show went on. If the LA makes it much more later and shows more Garp, I hope he's already abandoned that pretense and acts more Luffy-like. Loud, dumb, but full of heart with an empty stomach.
@Kanriel
@Kanriel 3 месяца назад
@@nameless4222 I am fully confident they will. Garp kept up a lot of that facade to test out Koby. He didn't want to show his hand right off, he wanted to see if Koby is a "worthy successor" since Garp in his old age doesn't have one. And if you read the manga, you'll know there's a few more than Luffy that skipped out on possibly filling his shoes. Now that Garp knows the kind of man Koby is, he can be more himself. He approved Koby and Helmeppo for his specialized training only after they passed his earlier tests, after all. And technically this is an entire arc in the manga we never got to see, so we actually have no idea about how close this is to the live action or not.

29:50 I've been a fan of One Piece since literally 1999, following each chapter and update and each episode week to week almost religiously since. I will be the first to say if you want complaints or concerns about the Live-Action I can write a whole dissertation on it. I'm far from saying I have no complaints about the Live-Action. But every episode has really blown me away at how much thought and effort was put into capturing the essence of what One Piece is. And the cast-off ceremony solidified it for me that this show really does, despite its problems and changes that they made, really beats with the heart of what makes One Piece special. Special Shoutout at 29:50 when they transitioned the original theme ("We Are") of the anime into the main theme of the live action. The person that made that decision deserves every raise in my book. You have no idea how happy I am to see new fans such as yourself being able to experience this series, even if you choose to only experience it in live-action form.

They cut out a cool bit of character development during Usopp’s fight with Chew. In the anime, when he faked his death with the ketchup, he was actually planning on sneaking away and was going to make up a story about how he did his best but just barely lost, but then he thought about how hard everyone else was fighting and decided to finish the fight for real. Also, there was a funny moment at the end where the exploding star didn’t completely knock Chew out, so he started beating him with a hammer until he went unconscious

Despite his age, Garp is still one of the strongest Marines. Much stronger than someone like Arlong. The $30 million bounty being the highest in the East Blue is a good measuring stick, because in the Grand Line a $30 million bounty is next to nothing. One Piece presents a lot of its powerscaling via the Bounty system and the Marine's ranks, although even that is sometimes subverted or put in the service of plot to great effect. So yeah, there would be no way a rookie pirate (even one as strong as Luffy) could go against a vice-admiral of the Marine. Above him are basically only 2 more ranks: Admiral (only 3 members have this rank at a time) and the Fleet Admiral (top dog and boss of all of the Marine).

A bit changed was the town knew all along what Nami was doing, they didn't say anything not to shackle her if she ever wanted to run from Arlong. After Nami got robbed, the town found out and decided to rise up against the fishman, which would be a suicide, AFTER Nami tried and couldn't stop them that's when she breaks down. There are more things cut which are amazing, I understand they are hard to fit but still worth experiencing somehow. Nojiko knew too and there's a heartwarming moment with the tattoos and their meaning, Nami wasn't as alone as she was here. Luffy also knew NOTHING of her past, he refused to learn about it cause he already had made up his mind.

It's been good following your reactions, just so you know, on youtube one piece fans just loves watching reactions to one piece in general (chapters, episode, LA etc...) A detail about old characters in one piece: even the oldest ones can be among the strongest characters as long as they don't give up their dreams in life, their strength won't decrease. I wish you to get the will (IYKYK guys) to watch the anime, yeah 1106 episodes sounds intimidating, but with just 10 episodes per week, you would be at the current point around the time that season 2 releases (it's a big season in terms of content so I'm sure it's gonna take a while until we get news/trailer). That would make you see the greatest character that was cut from season 1: the great Gaimon! Anyway, your reactions are cool to see, I'm also into Doctor who so your channel is a good way to revisit this show too, keep up that good work ;)

A couple of changes were made to Nami's story, probably for time, that I think make it slightly better in the manga/anime. For one, her village knew what she'd been doing all along but never let on to her that they knew (so they still treated her as if they thought she was a traitor) That was because they wanted her to be able to quit working for Arlong if it became too difficult for her, without her having to stress about letting the villagers down. Because of this, in the manga/anime when her money first gets stolen, she plans on just spending another 8-10 years on collecting another 100 million berry. It's the villagers that actually draw a line in the sand & go after Arlong because they refused to let her suffer anymore for their sake. I do actually like that storyline better than the villagers never knowing what she was doing.

Garp was only using 5 to 10% of his power here. Garp is one of the strongest of all in the One Piece universe. Luffy is no match for him, but right now in the manga (over a thousand chapters), he probably is now. Garp is a badass that doesn't have a devil fruit power and can take on some of the strongest of the strong.

If you are anything like me, you will now watching the anime, the pull was irresistible, I had to know what the whole deal with the Grand Line was. I'm doing bursts of episodes (usually an arc, but for the really long arcs I might take a pause at the halfway point) and then take a couple weeks off to let it sink in. FMA Brotherhood (which you are currently watching) is my favorite anime of all time, but One Piece is closing in and might surpass it in the over 500 episodes I've yet to watch. Damn show makes you cry for an inanimate object at one point.

I mean, Garp IS right about Luffy having no idea just how dangerous the world is. Garp fought in the big leagues, against freaks that makes of Luffy's battles in East Blue look like schoolyard playfights by comparison. Still... Luffy's gotta start somewhere, and eventually reach that same level.

Few thing's. You can usually gauge how strong pirates are by their bounty. It is a good indication of "power level" Garp easily beat Luffy so...... he is strong Shanks and Mihawk used to duel so....... he is really strong. This is still very much the beginning.

It's not explained yet, but almost from captain(with exceptions) onwards, each rank is more powerful than the last. Garp said he could be fleet admiral(highest marine rank), so even if he's old, we can guess he's far more powerful than what's shown here. I really every single cast, they did a amazing job and most negative things about it is a problem of budget and episodes (10 ep. would have been perfect). Thant's why i'm worried because s2 will have 8 ep. too and there's a lot you need to cut again to make it work. I just hope they get more budget because from here onwards, things will need more CGI or practical, which will be even more of a nightmare to produce. Thank you for the amazing reaction

Yeah this show really blew my expectations out of the water. I wasn’t even gonna watch it at first. As I mentioned I’ve only watched around 80 episodes because I just kind of lost interest. Wasn’t the right fit for me. But somehow I really fell in love with the live action and I’m super hype for season 2 whenever we end up getting it. Something about this cast and these versions of the characters… Everyone involved seems so passionate about the source material and it shows. Gonna be a heck of a ride. I have my nitpicks. I prefer how they did the Arlong Arc in the animanga. This version wasn’t bad it was just really missing that extra oomph in my opinion, you know? But damn if the performances didn’t make it better. Specifically Emily Rudd. Her performance of Nami was probably my favorite of the series. She has to be very subtle for the first 4/5 episodes before the reveal and then come episode 6 she finally gets to let her acting chops shine. I think we maybe spent a little too much time with the Marines? Just a smidge? But honestly, everything else was pretty stellar. Again, so excited for what’s coming in season 2 and beyond.

Liked your reactions 😊 Some people mentioned the anime. But if you don't have that much time I would advise against it, because the pacing is horrible (exceptionally horrible, even for anime standards). So I would rather suggest either reading the manga (which is higher quality anyway), waiting for the anime remake (which will come at some point on Netflix, but only the East Blue first, so might have to wait longer for later stuff) or just waiting for future seasons of the Live Action. I've read the manga multiple times and it's my favorite story of all time (and I have read a lot) and if you like Luffy now... he is imo the best fictional character ever 👌 So I hope you give the manga a chance on your free time!

The show is amazing! I didn't expect to like it so much at all (I'm a manga fan, but I don't like watching anime - I prefer reading). I'm afraid they're going to spoil it in season two, but I hope it doesn't happen. Actually, reforming unlikable characters is normal for manga (of course, not everyone can be reformed), so there's nothing special about Helmepo being somewhat likable, despite the exposition at the beginning. Most people aren't all bad (but there are some who are). For me the surprise of the season was Buggy and I definitely didn't expect him to be so cool :) I'm not sure the actor playing Usopp is serious enough (I get the feeling he doesn't like his character enough himself), which is a shame because the most interesting moments with Usopp are yet to come. Yes, he's a comical character, not as strong as Zoro and Sanji, but he's still awesome.
