Me too, it was (and still is for the moment) my only exposure to the anime (the English translation of this game) and maybe the first few mangas. But BOY HOWDY do I have a lot of catching up to do ^^!
I honestly thought Aokiji's was the most brutal one! The fact it takes place solely in an icy landscape from his Ice Age, the way of how the music truly builds up and kicks in the moment he grabs his ice sword, and the fact that Aokiji just does all this with a cold demeanor (Pun not intended) without showing any volatile rage or anything like that just feels so brutal and terrifying!
This. Hell. Hody, Akinu, Jimbe, Franky, Whitebeard, Law, etc.... I could go on about how many characters that would be fun to play with since this game came out.
@@NatsuDragneel-ig2ly Of course they wouldn't one of the reasons for that was for the console memory. But I think they rendered everything in a perfect way. Something that still resembles the 2D stetic. I wasn't even sure if that kind of standing existe at that time. I hope they imaginate that in a modern One piece game.
they already have the models (same exact style) in Onepy Berry Match. they need to go ahead and make the next Grand Battle game. I'd kill for Kuma in a GB game

Yes, this is the original release of Grand Battle Rush. The US release only covered the East Blue saga and cut so much content that covered the Alabasta, Sky Island, and Water 7 sagas.

Man, we missed out on a lot in the American version, but it kind of makes sense considering the offerings of the One Piece anime (4Kids dub) we had at the time, they had to cut out certain characters that hadn't been revealed yet. Though it seems kind of odd they'd release this game as the first One Piece game in America considering this was the 4th in the Grand Battle series. Now when it comes to me, I played the American version of this game religiously as a kid cause I loved any kind of fighting game at the time that had some semblance of Smash Bros to it (first kind of fighting game I ever played) and one based on an anime too, so I played a lot of them like Grand Battle, Zatch Bell: Momodo Battles, and Naruto: Clash of Ninjas. Never watched the anime at all during this time, but grew to love the overexaggeratedness of the series and its characters and the gameplay was just to addictive and fun to put down, so I pretty much 100 percent all that was to offer in the American-ized version. Seeing this version though makes me wish we had an American release of the original game for its other characters we never got a chance to play as. As a Gamecube collector, I may have to not only get the American version of the game I grew up with, but maybe have to get the Japanese release too.
Funny that you mention about how much we missed in Grand Battle Rush, is just so the same for the Japanese Audience missed plenty from Grand Adventure. Grand Adventure's roster is actually bigger than Rush and it being covering what 4Kids had Dubbed, the Devs made the smart decision to add new characters (Vivi, Wapol, Kuina and Zeff) and brought back some (Ace and Ohm) to fill the roster
@@LucarioShironaI mean, obviously the sequel game is gonna have a bigger roster then the previous one, so I'm not surprised there, but you're telling me that they added characters to Adventure when it released in America, but were never in the Japanese release for it?

Seriously, I just watched this gameplay and I've never played this game. And I just got shock because Kuzan and Foxy are playable in this game, because in Grand Adventure there are no Kuzan and Foxy.
Nah. Grand Adventure is basically it's own entry, the devs took what 4Kids was able to dub to their advantage and added Vivi, Wapol, Kuina and Zeff while brinding back Ace and Ohm as the two were cut from Rush. Grand Adventure has it's own original 1P Content.

Which for native sd material is like taking a photo of a person and streching their face horizontally. Have fun with that. Would look better in its native aspect ratio, is all I'm saying.
Yu Narukami Yep. But added Ace, Tashigi, Kuina, Ohm, The chef Zet, Vivi and more minigames and adventure mode. I hate not having all characters in the same game. We'll never play ace v Aokiji
Grand Adventure isn't really the 'English' one lol it's basically it's own entry with a bigger roster with new characters and returning cut characters.
Ohm is in Grand Battle 3 though. Several of the characters in Grand Adventure had never been in a One Piece fighting game before like Wapol, Vivi and especially Zeff and Kuina who've NEVER been in any One Piece game before then. I think Grand Adventure is very special because of that fact.
4Kids was WAY behind Japanese at the time. While JP was at the Davy Back/Water 7 Arc, we were at the Skypiea Arc, which explains why Grand Battle (US) had more characters.
