Fantasitic video man ! I was a contrarian to One Piece for years (even though i was a bleach/naruto/dbz fan) and it took me ages to pick it up. But once I did it honestly has become one of my fav Manga of all time. The Strawhat Crew are up there with some of my fav fictional characters in general, and I think its aged the best of the "big 3" manga

One piece has definitely helped change the world or better it. I feel like a good amount of people can relate to you and how one piece had influence your life. One piece has helped me along the way too. It cheer me up, kept me entertained, helped me make decisions that better my surroundings/family/friends/neighbors etc. Was a treat to hear your background on one piece. Thank you!

Just discovered your channel. I started both watching and reading One Piece through fansub and scanslation groups in 2001, I was 14. I'm turning 38 next week. I also love Discworld too, read and listened to all of them. And now doing the re-recorded audiobook series which is FANTASTIC. I definitely understand a dependence on nostalgia to make myself feel better. I can also understand that "protectionist" and "possessive" attitude about the things you love and loved. I had that feeling myself about the punk, hardcore, and metal bands I listened to, after some of them blew up and became popular. Although I kinda mellowed out and moved past thinking that way in my mid 20s Anyway, we seem to be of a similar mind on a lot of things. Nice! . . . . . . but you hate Usopp. Boooooooooooooo! Now we can never see eye to eye. 😛

Allen, I just heard about the negativity regarding the One Piece talks with Merphy, Phillip and all from the last livestream and I'm very sorry to hear it and that you guys won't be discussing it live anymore. Some people can be incredibly mean behind the anonymity of the internet sadly and even if I disagree with people's takes I just wish people would be respectful of whatever opinions people genuinely have and their right to express them. Keep up the hard work, we have ALOT of things to look forward to in this amazing story for years to come(P.S. don't let the Kuro haters and the Skypeia gassers ever gaslight u heh)🙏🙏

Man, when you said that One Piece helped you reconnect with your brother it legit made me tear up. I've been watching One Piece since i was like 12 years old, I remember my life back then was pretty much come back from school, do homework and watch One Piece until I go to sleep. I even have a vivid memory of watching the Foxy arc at 10 p.m and my mom yelling at me to go to sleep, I got caught up to the anime when it was just finishing Ennies Lobby so yeah that was while ago. I used to force my friend to watch One Piece back then (yeah i was that fan lol), and even though nearly all of them have moved away we still talk weekly about the newest One Piece chapters. I fear that when One Piece ends it may signal the end of our friendship but we still got a few more years before the end so i'll cherish those moments and memories for as long as possible and hey 20+ years of friendship and One Piece together wasn't a bad run. Thanks for sharing your experience.

the currently one video that exists on my channel - it only exists because of one piece changing my life & motivating me to actually do what i wanted the same year i made & uploaded it. i like kinda want to do a series where i get my mom into one piece via a mix of the manga (for slower arcs like skypiea & dressrosa) & the anime (for my favorite moments i've beheld).

I've never seen any of your content before. This was just in my recommended feed. However, I really appreciate your perspective as an older One Piece fan! I've been watching and reading since I was 12, and I'm 26 now. It started as a small part of my life and has since grown to become my single favorite piece of media and helped define a lot of my personal values and beliefs. Sorry you don't like Usopp. Hoping he gets his moment in the next arc of the manga! Definitely recommend the Live Action, check it out!

YES YES YES! Luffy’s voice actor IS Luffy and I can’t accept anyone else. She is so perfect in the role! Luffy English VA is the main reason I can’t watch the dub; I’m sure she does a good job with other characters, but she is definitely NOT Luffy 😅

Great video talking about something that you unabashedly love. I go the opposite way from you with things I love getting popular but I get it. One Piece has been part of a lot of formative experiences for you! Live action show is really good imo, I watched it twice, and I'll start the manga eventually and make you angry 😝

You can’t bandwagon something you love especially if you been with the series for ages

When the 4Kids dub was on TV, my brother watched it and I thought it looked ridiculous and stupid. But in 2009 when I was in graduate school, I decided to give the original Japanese version with subtitles a shot, and I ended up watching the first 200 episodes (which is about all there was at the time) in a week instead of studying and doing my work. So that has been my pattern with One Piece ever since. Every 5 years or so, I go binge 200+ episodes, then wait until there's another batch to binge. Except I'm about 500 behind now, though I've been following manga chapter reviews to keep up.

I see you are very protective of OnePiece and things you love, its all good. Hope you do not have a bad time with the LiveAction, we can all be nitpicky, Oda's words held it for me, "Stop counting the things you lost", he referred to those for the LA. OnePiece has occupied so much of my headspace, this vid resonated the same. My mother, 63, started OP anime, subbed, around Feb, on one of my simple asking of her to try it out. She is right now in WCI, we talk OP now, and I love to hear her laugh it out over Luffy. Luffy's the best to exist, and the crew.

I can definitely understand your feelings. It's like when your favorite niche restaurant suddenly becomes popular and many kids like to talk how cool it is. Anyway, why the cold dissing of Aokiji? He's the coolest pre timeskip Admiral, lel(pun(s) intended). That aside, I would also like to shamelessly recommend Baccano(light novel adapted into anime about immortal mafia families), World Trigger(manga and anime adaptation), Saint Seiya Lost Canvas(mostly the manga, a definitive Saint Seiya experience IMHO) and Blood Blockade Battlefront/Kekkai Sensen in Japanese(manga and anime adaptation). Hopefully you can keep finding series to make good memories with your loved ones, Allen. Cheers!

Allen I like having a chill book to pick up and read a couple chapters of before bed. From what you can tell would Long Price Quartet be a good option for this? (Not grimdark, a core cast that isn’t too sprawling and easy to remember, not a massive back catalog of history and geography to remember) if it’s not, what are some Allen approved options that come to mind?

You should do a read along of the manga, since you know the anime, the manga has the SBS and cover stories, that improve so much on the history, like my favorite villain *BELLAMY* , Christopher Navo and Fantasy awash are doing a discussion of the LA per episode, invite yourself on episode 6 and show them the anime version of sanji's goodbye, the anime goodbye its triumphant and cheerful and the LA did it good, but kinda sad.

Started with the 4kids dub as a kid once that finish took 10 years to find out it continue on took me 6 months to get caught up then started reading the manga when dressrosa started now I read and watch one piece each week

Early One Piece dub did cut A LOT of dialog even changed things completely but that was 4Kids dub. Funimation is actually really good, I'm loving how they are dubbing Wano right now it's funny especially Queen

I agree: Usopp sucks. I love Luffy but Zoro is my favorite. I've only ever watched the subtitled version because I knew the Japanese voices would be awesome.

The Dragon Ball Z Ocean Dub is what killed dub for me. The first Sailor Moon dub is one of few dubs that I'll give props to. But yeah, the localization of anime and the editing with the dubs... really upset me. I don't trust it. And... the voice acting is better in japanese in my opinion.
