This is my One Piece Netflix Series Review, and today I tell you why it is a Great Adaptation of the Anime and Manga. This is my Spoiler Free One Piece Series Review and Reaction. Did you enjoy this One Piece Remake, and what is your live action review?
Based on Japan’s highest-selling manga series in history by Eiichiro Oda, ONE PIECE is a legendary high-seas adventure unlike any other. Monkey D. Luffy is a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom since he can remember. Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, ONE PIECE, to become King of the Pirates! But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy will need to assemble the crew he’s always wanted before finding a ship to sail, searching every inch of the vast blue seas, outpacing the Marines, and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn.
Starring Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji, ONE PIECE is a live action pirate adventure created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix. Matt Owens and Steven Maeda are writers, executive producers, and showrunners. Eiichiro Oda, Marty Adelstein, and Becky Clements also executive produce. Previously announced cast includes Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala.

I actually preferred some changes in the LA compared to the manga For example, Syrup village, aside from the weird Zoro subplot , was 100% improved from the manga imo. Syrup village was always one of the lesser arc and the LA turning a boring fight outside the village into a horror, slasher-esque story with Kuro is honestly pretty great. The condensed length helps a lot as well.

I really hope this continues to 2nd season and Ian McShane continues as the narrator. Bring us Smoker, Chopper, Vivi and Robin. Egh, Chopper... my least favorite Straw Hat and by far the most difficult to fit into the world the Live Action is making. Given how well this first season went I can imagine them pulling it off, but I honestly dread that arc. Robin and the whole Alabasta arc seems like a lay up though. Given the immediate hype I'd be shocked if the Netflix series didn't go that far.

Is it a perfect show? No. But the fact that I had a smile the entire first season speaks volumes. To see this world completely realised into live action is a small miracle. By all means, these drawings and the world Oda has created is *impossible* to create into live action, that's why animation works so well. That being said, this show does SUCH a good job translating it into this new medium. Every episode just screams love and attention. It's like a gift to all the fans. It's beautiful to see. Even more, is seeing non-fans warming up to it and actually *enjoying* the story in this new form. Job well done i'd say.

I don't know, one piece is obviously too long-winded and with waay too many less important characters to ever fully remake, so I wouldn't mind them restructuring and condensing the arcs in a way that still conveys the important stuff.. Right? I feel this is how the live action had to be. You can't go as crazy as the animation/manga did; it would just look silly. The flashbacks are short in the anime, but the show could have stretched them out more, you can definitely feel like the content has been condensed, I don't think every episode should be action packed. One good thing is that they gave Garp and his marines good screen time. In the animanga the story focused a lot on the Strawhats in the early arcs.
@dall6

Yeah, the scenes with Garp, especially the one with Zeff, really helped portray the unique sense of honor and code, that powerful members of the older generations have amongst each other through mutual knowledge and wisdom from mysterious old times, despite of the side they are on. The thing about the adaptation is that it took away a lot of the larger scale fights such as Kuros entire pirate crew and the fight with Don Kreig outside the Baratie so I’m wondering how they are going to handle Alabasta which is a colossal battle, that’s one thing that I hope is closer to the source narrative because it’s so important. I'm fully caught up on the anime which is going to skew my perspective a bit (I'm watching this first arc for the first time in maybe 10 years?) but I came into this looking for one thing: a fun watch that would set up the characters to get to where they are now. I honestly didn't think even that was possible with all of One Piece's quirks, but they nailed it. Yes, some characters did not get the love they really deserved (Sanji in particular) but you know their motivations well enough to get you caught up and ready for more. I've had a few friends approach me and ask me if it's worth trying to get caught up on and I'm always very hesitant. It's a lot of content, and the absurdity of some of it is going to be hard to swallow for some. This I feel was the easily digestible introduction and, while I do hope for several more seasons, I think this is an easier pill to swallow to get introduced to everyone. It takes half the time to get through the story and has just enough of that absurdity to be a good transition into the anime for new converts. At the end of it all I saw room for improvement, but a set up for a series that could very well have an outstanding second season. Personally I think they have 3 seasons of safe content before the story starts getting into territory that would require a bit too much CGI. Given how massive it's first day has been though, perhaps it could get the budget needed to do Skypia without some drastic creative liberties.

The stories are rich and connected so yes, this world expands so much once the crew get to the “grandline” Like it’s a really rich and massive world, it might not look like it when watching this show because even in the original story, it felt like the show fun and adventure and this is pretty much the prologue, after this the world opens up, it’s full of mysteries and amazingly written characters like a lot of characters in this story can be the main character and they will still have an amazing story and journey. That’s why i'm hoping for a second season because truly the next story arcs are just beautiful and full of mysteries and amazing stories. And i went to this knowing and hoping it won’t be a 1to1 adaptation and i'm glad it isn’t because if they didn’t change stuff, it would’ve failed. There were interesting changes especially in the timelines but overall i pretty much enjoyed it, i have my nitpicks but nothing major that makes this any less enjoyable. I think watching this with the mindset of not being a 1to1 adaptation and its own thing certainly helped with my enjoyment of this live action. Overall this is amazing and fun to watch. A great adaptation imo despite the few nitpicks i have.

Show is brilliant! I do feel that they missed two small oppertunities. One being dropping the show all at once, I think 1 episode per week would created more hype and second not using the 1st season one piece theme song hehe. Although sometimes quirky this live action is absolutely brilliant and you can see the creators and actors did their absolute best to create a wonderul show 😊

Even though I'm not a one piece fan. The correct way to watch the anime is you watch like 80 episodes or so and come to it in 6 months. It's very easy to get back to one piece. Since islands are like 30-100 episodes. Oh were was I? Somewhere in cake island.

I first watched the one piece anime when I was only like 5 or 6 and loved it as a kid . I started rewatching it a few years ago and I’m over half way through now and love it even more today . I was worried for the live action at first but you’re right about it having the spirit . They did an amazing job capturing the heart and soul of OP . Everything from the casting , the sets , the devil fruit powers , the choreography was fantastic . A few minor complaints here and there but nothing big and the show did so so many things right . I was even a big fan most the story /character changed , I feel like it was done tastefully and fits well for live action . One of my main concerns was the weird looking characters like fishmen and devil fruit powers and how they’d look in LA. I was surprised how well they did with it honestly . The fishmen really knocked my socks off , fantastic practical effects and makeup . The powers are also just so unique and creative as opposed to the generic MCU and dceu powers that all kinds mesh together. That and the way they use their abilities in one piece is always so outside the box . The way they spent like half the show going into the backstories of the characters makes me think this isn’t just gonna be a 1 or 2 season show . But that could be wishful thinking . And buggy didn’t just get the spotlight that episode , he stole the spotlight every damn scene he was in ! Outside of the straw hats him or Koby is my favorite casting . Overall the live action is way better than I could’ve hoped for . I laughed , I cried and a had a huge smile a lot of the time . This was such a blast to watch , completely different from anything else on the market ! Also it does get much much bigger and grander . The anime is such an adventure , each island feels like it’s own world , especially moving past Alabasta arc (season 2 will likely be Lougee town , drum island and alabasta). If they keep going , water 7 and ennies lobby would be season 3 and that’s were shit really pops off and you start seeing the true power and might of the world government . A buster call in live action is gonna be one expensive episode that’s for sure . Also they better have Afro luffy in the live action or all of us fans are going to riot

watched everything just recently, i feel it needed more episodes, at least when they for some reason added the whole Garp part. it´s ok, thats about it. because it was basically heavily cut, story wise. and kind of shoddy at times. it kind of felt like most cities was just a prop. these sections basically. for example don´t remember that they even mentioned namis mom. THe only way you find about her name was reading the name at the grave... it is ok to cut some things, but they cut way to much making it very shallow..

I’ve been watching and reading one piece since I was 13 years old (13 years ago) I have watched every live action movie of a anime. I had the number 1 pedestal given to Tokyo Ghoul live action movie wise. This One Piece live action is a representation of how it Anime should be made if your going to make it a live action. Yes certain parts are going to have to be squished together with the tight amount of episodes they have, but what will be coming up next if it does tremendously well (which I think it will) they’ll be able to expand the story more by having more episodes per season if they get the response I’m hoping it will get.

I've only watched one episode so far but I can tell you, as a big fan of the manga/anime, they've done a great job on this adaptation. It's basically a live action OVA - they're covering almost everything but shortening it down and rearranging it in a satisfying way that remains true to the original material. The deviations from the source material have been done really well - they remain true to the general idea of the original scenes but have been adapted to work better in live action. Very much like the LOTR movie adaptations; I'm sure they'll miss a few things along the way but so far so good. Casting is perfect so far. Axe-hand Morgan 👍👏

One Piece was sooooooooooo much fun! As a long time fan of the manga/anime, I thought it was impossible to adapt this into a live action series, but damn, they sure proved me wrong. It felt so right. It was fun, touching, the chemistry and music and action was all on point! It's laugh out loud funny and inspiring! Such an unexpected surprise.

Ive experienced One piece in all three mediums now. Each medium i think has pros and cons. The Manga: + you get to experience Odas art and vision for the series + Cool easter eggs you can find in each panel +releases weekly - You dont get to see miments in motion - No sound either - over 1000 chapters The anime: + You get soundtracks and voice acting + You get to see animation, key moments imagined and animated - Over 1000 episodes - lots of padding - bad pacing at times - Heavily censored compared to the manga The live action: + No censorship + Removes some gags that can feel cringe or get old + Easy to pick up + Faster paced + Pulls in non one piece fans + Actually improved some parts that dont make sense/ are boring in the manga - Not as much build up - Doesnt hit as hard with emotional moments - Some scenes feel rushed - Rearranges timeline/ removes some scenes

U ask what was different...well Usopp story was the most different in terms of character placements. They improved upon that aspect from manga, but i still feel like missing the charm of that arc here, cz man this was terrifying. They did a really good job of doing what they could, thinking they might not get another chance. Like revealing more depth into Arlong, and Garp being so invested this early.

I love your review on the serious II have watched a lot of the episodes still currently I'm going haven't called haven't caught app yet though I just got to like episold 900. Or something like that? But it's so good in this live action adaptation. I've only launched the first 4 episodes, and it's really, really good. I actually watched the first 3 episodes. On my phone, and then we watched them on the big screen in my living room. So yes, very rewatchable and I usually don't rewatch things. And I already look forward to rewatching it with other family members. That haven't seen it. I think like others have said. Text, Ed, the only disappointing thing is that. I just wish. There was more episodes. But Netflix and tomorrow's studios. I guess whoever whoever worked with what they got. And so fand so far, it's, it's amazing.❤🎉🎉❤

I think the manga is so damn good that it makes me notice more things I don’t like about the live action. Stuff that gets way more fleshed out in the source material is kind of left to the wayside here and because you didn’t have any anticipation for that you weren’t disappointed. One of the more frivolous examples is how everyone in Coco village originally knew what Nami was doing the whole time and hid that from her so she wouldn’t feel chained down by the pressure of saving them. While that’s much better in the manga, it actually works just fine in the live action to have it be a big shock to the villagers that Nami wanted to help them the whole time. However, the more important stuff is with Usopp and Sanji, who I felt kind of got shafted. Usopp’s the better of the two, but basically in the manga he has a moment where he takes down one of Kuro’s subordinates and proves to himself that he can be a brave warrior, which I guess happens in episode 8 but it isn’t as impactful when he just defeated a random fish-man he doesn’t know. Instead Kaya gets this moment in episode 4 which was good, but not as good as the manga. My biggest grievance with the show was to do with Sanji, though. In the manga, he’s incredibly reluctant to follow his dreams at the start and doesn’t mention the All Blue until right before he sets off with Luffy. Being tied to the Baratie for so long made him think dreams were stupid until he saw Zoro risk his life for his dream. Sanji deeply admired Zoro for that and after Luffy saved the Baratie he could feel comfortable opening up to himself and to others about what he really wants. But in the live action, he feels no embarrassment at all about the All Blue, he DOESN’T WATCH Zoro vs. Mihawk, and Luffy doesn’t prove himself a worthy captain. Luffy just got beat up and then Sanji decided to follow him for no reason. Still, I liked the show band it will definitely improve if there’s a second season, but I think going into it blind shielded you from what could have been.

The adaption did a phenomenal job, couldn't be better honestly. I really hope they do a season 2! The casting director did a fantastic job! It's hard to find real people that give the same vibe and look as an anime character, especially some of the characters in One Piece that have very cartoonish proportions.
