@@rubixmaster7532 I haven't watched Wano, but from the large amount of clips ive seen on the booru there seems to have been plenty of detailed and complex animation in that arc, despite the flashy effects layered over the top. Even outside the action theres some excellent bits of character driven animation, Shinya Ohira's and Akihiro Ota's work is a great example.

@@forgottenrelics1197 the arc is 190 episodes long, so it makes sense that there’s plenty of good animation in it. There are also moments that feel alot lazier and even worse than old One Piece episodes in terms of actual movement. If you don’t mind spoilers I can bring up the scene I was talking about in the earlier comment

Really, Oda is so amazing at making the action scenes that when they’re animated shot by shot in the old anime version, despite the lack of “animation”, it still looks incredible and timeless. If only we could combine the old anime that’s more faithful to the manga with the fluid animation of the new anime. That’d be a dream come true…

Don Krieg is one of the reasons I like early One Piece. That early era had more variety when it comes to where villains got there power from. Some villains were just physically strong and deceptive which made them more realistic. DK is actually scary because he is the type of person someone can technically meet in real life (A criminal who uses hidden weapons and tricks) I like the fact DK focuses on tricks and weapons as well as his character has great symbolism. One Piece like Dragon Ball nowadays both face the problem that there is only a handful of named characters that can physically challenge the protagonist l.

Your comment on the depth really is on point, the early 2000s episodes were very dynamic in the way they used perspective and never shied away from distorting space like in episode 4 when Higuma uses his swords to destroy the bottles.

TBH, this Power Point-like animation of early One Piece is one of appeals of old episodes XD It was one of early Digital Anime, so they played around. I love experimentation.

The background color schemes are noticeably better and more organic, when they were doing it on real paper, paint and scanning it into the PC, then it goes to a garnish color, relying on primary and secondary colors, when they started digital painting them in 2004, when the show went HD.

I like the idea of visiting arcs/fights and comparing them with modern iterations, as you watch the show yourself! I think these small little comparisons are great to look back on from time to time. I'm excited for when you reach Drum Island - Water Seven and revisit the former through movie 9! that one is a crazy revamp definitely worth a watch. its visual direction is so fun. and while you're at Alabasta, the same can be said about that one as well. the new takes on the animation alone is very fun, so i hope you'll cover movie 8 and compare the arc's art & animation with the original! can't wait for more one piece from you along with others!

@@forgottenrelics1197 sounds like a great plan! reminds me of your Super Heroes animation review, which is perfect rewatch material. and yea I totally understand the overwhelming bit, I'm already happy with the fact that you're giving other adaptations a chance during your free time. a video about them is just something to consider (and not to feel pressured to do!) so I hope you enjoy them on your own, youtube and content-wise aside! there's not a lot of (well made) retrospectives about different visions of the same material, especially circled around the animation. so I'll stick around for anything as long as you find it interesting to cover, like the Rurouni Kenshin comparison. until next time!

Like last time I think the newer version is more “animated” everything moves faster because the story itself is moving faster, where as the older version is moving at the pace of TV show, so we have time to focus on still shots and reactions which I think works better for the old art style. The only time I think the 2000 version looks worse is when Crieg is moving out of frame like a power point presentation. Otherwise I think most of the time the 2000 original version is better at adapting the manga. The artwork of the 2000 version just looks more appealing to me than the 2017 version which feels like it’s forcing the newer art style into past arcs which I think makes the show look more generic. Regardless the 2017 version doesn’t look bad, but most of the time I prefer the 2000 original

@@checkmate5336easily, everybody in early one piece looked like they showered once every 2 weeks, (probably not inaccurate) but now they look so clean and pristine lol. its definitely the color palettes, early one piece was very muted which helped the atmosphere imo, but modern has much more vibrant colors

was going through some personal stuff at the time, wasnt in a good mental space, and had low drive so it made covering all the new stuff coming out hard so i stuck to simpler stuff. was also busy with work outside yt.
