Luffy might be too boneheaded to realize that Chopper is sensitive about the word "Monster", but there's Sanji, picking up on it and fixing everything with 3 words and a huge grin. "He's a monster :D"

If Luffy didn't eat the Gum Gum Devil fruit he probably would have wanted Wapol's Munch Munch Devil Fruit just so Luffy could eat lots more meat.

Oda is the kind of master, who can make you laugh and cry at the same time. The anime did a good job too. Maybe not the phasing - but the music and the voice acting is brilliant, and implemented to perfection. Can't wait to see you balling your eyes out in about 200 episodes when you get to the good shit.

I think because hiriluk had a personal experience, based on change/rehabilitation. He was a thief who "changed" for the better, so he believes that everyone deserves a second chance.

I think the core of Hiluluk's ideology is a belief in rehabilitation/the human potential for change; which is the point of his backstory with the sakura- a former thief or "thug" as some translations describe, hopeless and at deaths door, was reminded of the beauty in the world by the sakura tree and mistook his healing of heart for physiological improvement/wanted to bring that change to others/do good in general.

"no flashbacks today..." Mozy forgot he was watching One Piece! The small flashbacks, the ones that re-play over and over to highlight a point, aren't always Oda's doing. Oda is the Creator/Mangaka and the structure of the anime isn't always 1 to 1 with the structure of the Manga.

Yeah I have to give Toei animation credit for making the sentimental moments work well with the music and the voice acting. I may criticize them for things like fillers and some animation issues but when they need to be good, they are very good. Hope you are feeling well now and please take your reactions at your pace. If you start feeling really bad, look for a 130 yr old Doctor with a blue nosed raindeer.

Oh and Oda does not write characters as absolute "good" or "evil" or "the correct ideology". He writes people as the ideology and beliefs of that character he wants to represent. And unlike characters in other manga, Oda stays true to their ideologies and beliefs. Hiriluk is a pacifist and a die hard one. As such his ideology is unwavering to this belief. It is this idea that causes a problem when defending against an oppressor such as Wapol. But it is what gave him the personality to take in Chopper when everyone else rejected him. It is also what made him happy when he found the 20 doctors below Wapol to be ok, even when it ended up entrapping him. Oda really does not preach but rather uses the characters as representations of various beliefs that may occur in the world, and to best progress his story. You may get frustrated with Oda's diehard nature to keep a character as is, even if it is not popular but it is what keeps me trusting him to portray these characters in the best manner possible. They will grow and have development, but their foundation characteristic will remain as is.

Lets go! Btw there’s so much depth to the characters of drum island but that’s gonna have to come after the arc is over with, as it closes/ties everything together well. (Edit): With Dr. Hiriluk philosophy on how you shouldn’t hold grudges… His perspective on the matter is that as a doctor, your duty is to save lives not take them. Regardless of who the person is, your obliged to try with your out most capabilities to save their lives. His character philosophy is one of piracy and doctorates. He has believes of equality and fairness in treatment no matter how you look or what’s your race, a concurrent theme in one piece. When Dr. Hiriluk first brought in chopper, chopper was scared to speak as to how others treated/judged him previously. After chopper’s confession. Dr. Hiriluk said that he as well speaks, he even speaks better than him. His response makes chopper feels something he never felt before, he couldn’t fit with the reindeers nor with the humans, Dr. Hiriluk simply showed him that it doesn’t matter.
