After re-watching the video, @17:20 it looks like the Katakuri player actually has lethal in hand. Play out Thunderbolt to KO the only Blocker Play out Reject to deal 1 Damage to Opponents Life Stack remaining 4 Don! on Linlin and swing 16k with Linlin which would have been exactly enough to get through the 3 2k's and 3 1k's in hand (Sabo was the last Life card which he would have gotten from the Reject). And the katakuri would have still had one attack left with the Satori.
Oh and also he had a 200m volts Amaru he could have used for the +3k Power instead of just +2k. Also if the Thunderbolt and Reject were used like I said, they would have dropped him down to 1 Life card, allowing him to use Amaru to tap down even another Blocker if he needed to lol.
Due to this lots of player brought Perona on a recent flagship here locally and got wrecked...Katakuri is the champ and another katakuri is also on top8.
I think I understand the Katakuri player's mindset. It really feels to me like he got quite a bit overconfident. I mean, he Had 2 Big Mom's on the field and a Kikunojo that couldn't be KO'ed lest his opponent wants to give him a FIFTH life. I'd be feeling pretty safe too if I'm being honest... and while yes, I agree maintaining board control is super important, as this game so clearly demonstrates, I can also see the value in, or at least the mentality of just applying constant pressure on the leader and getting them within lethal range ASAP. Especially when you're not drawing any 2k counters LOL the longer you prolong the game, the harder it'll be to fend off Perona's attacks. Or at least, that's kind of how I imagine the Katakuri player thinking about things. And with 4 life and 2 Big Moms while your opponent has 0 life left, the field was most likely an after thought to him, because next turn, he probably could've really gone for lethal too. And who would have thought Perona would actually be able to take damage his life FIVE whole times! Like wow... Especially as you mentioned, you'd expect SOME kind of trigger to bail you out LOL. But again, this just goes to demonstrate very clearly just how important board control truly is! LOL But one real criticism I share with you here is that yeah, he DEFINITELY should've attacked that Baby 5 much sooner. At the very least, once the Sabo and Rosinante blockers were gone, there was literally no reason to NOT attack that thing. But idk, I can't really justify that one for him other than maybe just the pressure of being in a high stakes tournament like this got to him a little bit??? I know I get super nervous in tournaments so I could relate if that is what it is LOL
Definitely, and if the Katakuri player sits back to watch the rerun he will probably lose sleep for weeks. #1 like we said, he should have been eating up easy targets on the board. #2 playing out that Satori 2k actually could have saved him from being OTK'd the following turn. Lastly, #3, the Katakuri player had lethal in hand and could have won instead of playing out the 2nd Linlin.. Thunderbolt Rosinante, Reject to take last Life from Opponent, and then 200mV Amaru for +3k and +2k from remaining Don on Leader, making for a 17k Attack from Linlin.. which the Perona could not crawl out of.
@@Vvulfrikin a similar situation, getting the satori in hand saved me one life, it was enough to go for game for the board i have, sometimes défense is the bedt attack...
That game was NUTS. But still baffled like you as to why the Katakuri player never swung onto that Baby 5 for the longest time. That was truly his downfall.
