One Piece is not Disney. Disney has 100 years of IP, and prices where stupid at launch. Disney wants product in people's hands. Bandi doesn't give a shit.
@Flippertank

Disney is more general, One Piece is wanted by collectors because of nostalgic (I watch the Anime since I was a kid) and due to scarcity indeed. But the biggest advantage is that the game is actually insanely fun to play, I played 3 games and I was hooked, started locals recently and having a blast. For me One Piece is in every aspect better, the arts are beautiful and the game is amazing. But that is personal pref, and although Lorcana is okay, I think it will die pretty soon. Deffo with DBZ FW and upcoming Union Arena TCG coming up.

@@Flippertank Lorcana is 4 months old and dying? Hasn't OP been out for a year and a half? 2 years is enough time to judge a card games longevity. Neither one has even hit that. FaB is indie, granted, but feels like it's picking up steam now after 4 years. Give 'em time to cook.

I don’t know what you folks are talking about about prices for Lorcana going up or Disney did not print enough. It’s literally all I see. I got one piece tcg hunting in the nyc area daily. 3 Walmarts and 4 targets. The Lorcana shelf does not move. There are a ton of start decks and booster packs. If anyone wants to pay me $2 over msrp to ship some to them. Let me know. Gotta make some space for one piece cards on the shelves. Ha!

One piece has a ton of promo/tournament cards which are limited print runs and are also variants of existing cards so u dont need them to play necessarily, this keeps both collectors and players happy. Collectors by nature want exclusuve and limited items, as long as bandai keeps providing items that are limited and have a lot of variety in addition to their base sets they will continue to get these prices. If Ravensburg were smart theyd do the same, its easy enough to satisfy both crowds if thats what u really want to do

It’s interesting that you initially dog on one piece because people are scalping the “lottery” cards and rares, etc. and then you’re hopeful that Lorcana enters into a realm of “serializing” cards and wanting lottery cards being more prevalent in Lorcana. Remember… that will also call on scalpers to Lorcana. It’s not a one piece vs Lorcana thing you’re worried about. It’s a collectors desire vs scalping vs gameplay thing you’re worried about.

Agree with much of what was discussed here. Astute observations about the speculation/market manipulation driving up price of Lorcana initially. I assume it's a known issue in the Lorcana community, but curious if you have done a video about the atrocious quality of the print of the starter deck cards (I've opened two Floodborn starter decks and the cards are noticeably blurry, with the text at the bottom being bled into, looking fuzzy)

I've only come across it with the starter deck cards, but I have not opened a lot of product -- is this also true of First Chapter reprint stuff (booster/starters)? The First Chapter cards in the starter decks I opened did not have this issue, just the Floodborn cards @@6thface

I think Lorcana is going perfectly. At first making the product extremally difficult to get. Gets people talking. Doesn't matter if you like it or not. Peaks interest and once available later gets even more players on board. As a collector of many items. Now we talk about it in the now, but wait once it really disappears from stores. Kids who play today get older. That's when the real collectability starts. Its not as much at the beginning. OP I'm not sure about. Price can also push people out. Like Lorcana at the beginning. Because its still new. You want healthy pricing over time. Not FOMO pricing. Time will tell though

One Piece is just in a high rn since older sets have really playable cards and are almost impossible to get now. It makes no sense why a $12 starter deck should resale for $80 just because you didn't get in at the beginning. I'm sure once lorcana official play starts to roll out with excusive promos, playable cards will start to gain value. IMO the only reason some of these OP events are selling out ridiculously fast is to get those event exclusives just from participating like the $75 jimbei at one point or the 5k plus serial luffys.

The game can't pop off if it only releases in 2 markets and then struggles to print to a fraction of the demand. Bandai corrected One Piece print issues almost immediately, nothing from Ravensburger yet.
@1Raroy
@1Raroy 9 месяцев назад
A booster box coming out and multiplying in price instantly is not normal and has never been sustainable. It should not be desired as it is fundamentally caustic to games. People think it's the job of a tcg company to supply them with free tendies. It's not good business to leave millions of dollars on the table. What has happened to collectors where they are now pariahs jumping from game to game buying what is hype and then losing their butts when it inevitability crashes. Wouldn't you have more fun gambling at a crypto casino? A new game coming out and selling well at near msrp is ideal, it's a good sign. This just seems like problem gamblers bragging who about who won more at roulette.

i think its just down to its disney. People dont go out and go crazy over disney merch or figures thats just not really a common thing. But anime has thousands and thousands of fans that are constantly looking for new anime things to collect. Im not a tcg player but i love one piece so im buying it to collect. I most just dont really have a way to play is why im just collecting for now. Plus the art across the board is just insanely amazing. The idea of a disney tcg just honestly seems very silly and gimmicky to me. One piece is a continuous story and ip where as lorcana is just a mish mashed jumble of characters and stories.

Isn't the One Piece TCG now facing problems with limited print runs running the risk of becoming a collectable game over an actual playing card game? Its going to drive prices much higher because of the limited prints and make the game inaccessible in the near future. Meanwhile Lorcana is barely on its second set, and at SCG Cincinnati only 211 MTG players showed up to a $20k MTG tourney, and on that SAME DAY about half that many people (95) attended the Lorcana $1k tourney. Unfortunately looking at the company and the organization behind these two franchises, we are going to be seeing new Lorcana sets hitting shelves long after the death of the One Piece TCG.

He’s right though - releasing too much product for a bunch of whiners on the internet who don’t buy anything destroys your game. They printed too much. Hope they stop soon. Lorcana is still my favorite - but they printed too much. 😢

But they haven't printed too much. Prices are already going back up. So, it really depends on what we see from here.
@Brandonhart100

It's funny how people complain about availability until their game pieces go down in value. Now it's the opposite. That being said, it has yet to be seen exactly what Ravensburger's ideas are on printing. I don't think it's that crazy yet... When you look at the price stability on TCGplayer, I think we're doing fine right now. More, we still don't even know exactly what Bandai is going to do! That is not set in stone... Also there are so many One Piece fanbois trying to convince Lorcana Players that their game/IP is better etc. What's their motivation with this? Are they trying to get people to stop playing Lorcana and come over to One Piece? I honestly think most Lorcana players, like myself, don't really care about the One Piece game/IP altogether. It doesn't hold my interest. I didn't watch the anime at all. If I quit Lorcana, I'd just go back to Pokemon. Plus, in terms of IP, there is no real discussion here. Disney's reach is far greater than One Piece on its own. Disney is the second highest grossing media franchise of all time. One piece isn't even on that list by itself. If this was Dragon Ball+Sailor Moon+Power Rangers+One Piece at least it would be on the list ( Toei Animation basically) but still at just 50% the overall value of the Disney media Franchise. Don't worry One Piece Players there is a silver lining, as a collector in sealed as well, I'm happy to gobble up your packs and leave them in my closet to inflate the prices of your game pieces. But, I won't be playing.
@TheNerdStorm
@TheNerdStorm 9 месяцев назад
Agree. I could not care less about One Piece as an IP, and I have a big collection of Naruto cards (and DBS). Disney characters don't need any debate how much appeal they have for a large audience.

I find this comment really combative and accusatory while also stating falsehoods. I am a fan of both Disney and One Piece. I am a pretty unashamed Disney adult. I've got annual passes to both US theme parks. My main content is Disney RU-vidrs. As I type this, I'm wearing a Mickey Mouse sweater that I bought at the parks. I've also got art of Luffy and crew on my walls, multiple figures of the Straw Hat Crew members, and am wearing a Zoro shirt under my sweater. I prefer One Piece CG to actually play. I find the mechanics to be more fun and engaging, but I'm still playing Lorcana. My personal preference is toward One Piece's faster pace and opponent's turn interaction. However, the two games are VERY different aside from cards being the format for play. Almost nothing about how the two games really play are similar. Someone who loves Lorcana isn't assured to like One Piece more and vice versa because they don't play the same. It might be anecdotal to the areas of the internet or game stores you go to for your statements, but I haven't experienced a single One Piece player trying to convince people at a Lorcana local tournament to play it instead. I play Final Fantasy TCG, Lorcana, and One Piece primarily, and I actually don't hear anyone talking about bringing people to One Piece in Lorcana or FFTCG. It's anecdotal evidence against anecdotal evidence, but I just don't see where "One Piece fanbois" are trying to convince people they have a better IP and card game. Anecdotally, I saw more Lorcana players around launch doing what you're accusing One Piece fans of doing. One Piece is the 20th highest grossing media franchise. Actually, most of the franchises you mentioned aren't even on the list I could find that wasn't a Wikipedia page. Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, and Power Rangers didn't make the 2022 top 25 list. One Piece actually has a pretty huge audience, and anime is only becoming more mainstream. One Piece has been described as Pokemon for the younger generations with how much of an impact it has had on them. I'm sure we will only see it grow in popularity with the live action show popping off and a remake of the anime being started. The only recent highest grossing list I can find is from 2 years ago, and I'm confident that One Piece is probably higher on that list now with how much the live action show expanded the fan base and the explosion of merchandising for it. Comparing Disney's entire media library to a single anime or piece of media like One Piece is also a formal fallacy. Disney's entire library put together beats Pokemon for gross profit, and Pokemon is the highest grossing media franchise by a long shot. However, Disney is not a media franchise as it is a media company, so comparing Disney as a whole to One Piece creates a flawed line of reasoning. Also, your last line is just petty. If you don't like the franchise, don't just buy product to keep it out of others' hands. It seems silly to collect product from a card game when you seem so vehemently against the franchise and its fans. All that being said, I think we're expanding from a big 3 of card games to a big 6 personally with it being Pokemon, Magic, Yugioh, Flesh and Blood, Lorcana, and One Piece. Those are the big 6 I see played at most card shops these days across the country, and they're what's at the top across TCGPlayer along with Digimon (which I think is losing popularity) as they sell the most product. I think we're truly entering/in a golden age of card games where more and more are being printed along with more and more people hopping into the hobby.

I collect both, but the One Piece game is far more fun tbh, I enjoy the game more then every other TCG I ever played (MtG, Pokemon & YuGiOh). Only thing that can ruin One Piece is supply shortage, cause Im starting to see players drop the game cause they don't wanna spend hundreds of dollars every time the meta shifts or for even a boosterbox, on the other hand I see weekly new players at my locals. I just buy some Lorcana here and there for PC but we gotta be honest Lorcana is already a wounded/dying sheep.

I was going to like your comment, but I don't agree about it being a wounded dying sheep. But I do like your comment otherwise. I've been playing MTG since Ice Age or before. I still play Pokemon via TCG Live, which is excellent. Final Fantasy TCG -- You could definitely say that's dead or dying, but I still like that game and the quality of the cardstock. @@Flippertank
