You are 100% right about the "infect trap" comment; a lot of the toxic decks I see utilize poison but do not need it because they usually win by reducing the opponent's life to 0. They end up playing like lesser versions of decks that already exist, while your deck takes full advantage of poison as a wincon.

@@gaminggeckos4388 I think the question would be: How much are you investing into each strategy? Agreed. If you want to stick to Dimir, then Gix's Command is probably the most attractive option if you keep the creatures in. If you drop the creatures, then Drag to the Bottom is really the only maindeckable option, which requires running the triomes, and taplands suck - so a creatureless version is probably just not viable in Dimir until they print another good black sweeper.

I'd like to disagree. I can see where you are coming from, but that isn't where this deck is going. You don't really need Proliferate in Saga decks and adding Sagas to a "proliferate poison counters" will be watering down the whole "proliferate poison counters" plan. See also: SaffronOlive's short comment about people often splitting their strategies into two weaker variants instead of going all in on one strategy. He commented that in the game against that other poison/proliferate deck, where the opponent was also trying to drain him. Instead of playing that drain card, the opponent could have played a card, that helps with the poison strategy. Which SaffronOlive did do and consequently won the game. Because his strategy was more focused.

The game checks for poison kills and damage kills at the same time (SBA). Reminds me of deflecting palm making me have to say a few times that I got it in 4.

@sutfolsemaj
@sutfolsemaj 7 месяцев назад
@notyourbusiness5530 I don't think that's true. You put the 0 ability on the stack. Once it resolves, you carry out each of its instructions. Included in those instructions are "lose 1 life" and "proliferate". There's no point in between doing those two things that state-based actions are checked, and losing the game to 0 or less life and losing the game to 10 or more poison counters are both checked at that time. Erego, any effect that gives lethal poison counters and lethal loss of life to two different players will have those players lose the game simultaneously. In a 2 player game, this will result in a draw.

Compared to commander, it's nice seeing "each opponent gets a poison counter" in standard. Because it only gives poison counters, Planeswalkers don't get out of control, charge counters aren't abused, etc. It doesn't eliminate the pain of proliferate but it does mean you have to make a card choice here to either poison or proliferate. If you run Planeswalkers a poison spell will slow you down, if you run poison you could be proliferating nothing.

@@MTGGoldfish Is Mirrex at all playable for flood protection? It's not great for budget because it's another rare land, but 2 of them could give you a way to take advantage of holding up mana on turns where your opponents don't do much.

Interestingly I think in the game where you almost punted with Vraska, I think if you did, it would have been a draw. You wouldn't check life totals/poison until after the entire ability resolved, and both you and the opponent would be dead.

The deck is under 5 tix on Mtgo as of 2/21/23. So free loan program and kinda rotation proof for awhile.

I think it depends on the meta. It's pretty bad against things with Wedding Announcement and other token makers, but if it's killing a non-token creature most of the time I think it's worth it.

I love how this is fast enough for Standard, but when Snap tried the exact same thing in Pauper it was just crushingly slow in that format. Kind of weird to think that Commons can be faster KOs than rares and mythics, don't you think? lol 😂

While I'm not by any means a constructed player (just Sealed and Draft) I think Scheming Aspirant is good, but not for a poison deck. Red, Black and (I think to a lesser degree) White all have powerful Oil Counter cards, and I think the Aspirant wants to be played in a deck that generates value by proliferating onto your own stuff rather than by poisoning the opponent. If you're like a B/R aggro deck that builds up Oil Counters and turns them into damage then the Aspirant keeps you alive and puts free damage on the opponent. If you want to win with poison, though, then the Aspirant doesn't really fit.

I think CGB built the rot priest deck right because his version can win on damage using Stormchaser Drake for card advantage.

Drop Venser for Mercurial Spelldancer....GG, Infectious Inquiry is too dangerous and Distorted Curiosity would be better use of that card slot. Mines a little less budget but I'm going all in on Mercurial Spelldancer and Cheap spells that work well with it also added Instill Despair into the list currently still need more rare cards and my mana hurts cause I'm missing 8 of the rare lands on arena using CIP Tapped draw lands as replacements currently. I can't state enough how broken Spelldancer is in this list.
