Note: opossums are one of the best animals you can have on your property. They come for the 1000s of ticks. Don't dispatch them. Too many die because they duh when crossing a road. They are also immune to rabies, so No fear there. Great vid. Thanks.
I had mine for 9 years before I finally got rid of it wish I never did, I loved it I used it for all kinds of things from popping squirrels and plinking cans used it as a truck gun for a little bit. I’ve dropped it used it and abused it and that thing just kept running. That made a great impression with me.
Ive used mine on the farm, great for coyotes and snakes , but i have used it to dispatch cows for butchering. Like any caliber gun its all about shot placement. I really love mine. and plan on buying one for my wife for defense. Mine has a 6 inch barrel ill buy her the bar keep !
I once saw a gun page where the presenter said “My gun is loaded, I don’t care what you think. My gun is for shooting”. It was a relief to see someone that acts like a gun is a gun.
Yep. An empty and totally cleared gun is nothing more than a paperwieght or doorstop. But today it's all about "thafety". He'll if you don't know your gun is cleared, not unloaded, then maybe your an idiot. Not you but you get my point I hope.
Yeah, proper gun safety is for losers. Usually losers of life and limbs but exercising proper gun safety is only something old people scared of guns would do....mainly because everyone is dead
You can purchase an all-metal ejector rod nowadays from aftermarket for $25, shipped, neatly eliminating the sole weak plastic point in the ejector rod tab.
I have two RR’s. My wife bought me one, 1 st edition version, over 25 years ago, still works great. I went to a 6 Shooter Gun Show 2 years ago and bought the RR, 12 shot Lr/wmr version for my collection. Will be glad when weather permits to get out and shot some cans, paper and stuff. Love your vlog, thanks for posting and sharing.
I have one with an American flag on the grips.my cylinder was a hair out of time and was shaving bullets on the right side. Took it back to my gun dealer and Heritage replaced the cylinder. Shoots fine now. I do keep an eye on the screws and pins on all my guns. The rear screws did back off about 1/2 a turn. Other than that, no problems whatsoever. They also have a lifetime warranty
The Rough Rider one I purchased brand new had a manufacturing defect in the positioning of the 22 lr cylinder ratchet so that doesn't it lock the cylinder in place when cocking the hammer (The 4th click never happens). The cylinder can easily be rotated out of battery enough to cause the bullet to impact the edge of the barrel, throwing some lead sideways and potentially breaking the frame. Taurus customer service has been giving me the runaround about honoring the 1 year manufacturing defect warranty despite having the receipt from the hardware store clearly showing what I purchased and when. Not honoring their warranty for a dangerously defective $30 retail part that is available for separate purchase on their website is a sign of a poorly managed company. If one of these blows up in your hand, this is potentially the reason, and they have been made aware.
Thanks for the video. I have been eyeballing this revolver for some time now. I recently purchased n advantage arms 22lr conversion for my polymer 80 and have been having a lot of fun with it at the range.
@@GeorgiaRidgerunner There is a plant tour video of the original plant in Miami where they explained the big bores pistols where made at the repair stations. Whenever the two employees did not need to rework or repair a 22LR pistol they would work on big bore pistols. Taurus also purchased Rossi and did little with centerfire pistols but I did read something about some newer models were released.
Got one. Inexpensive but not cheaply made. Finish isn't the greatest, but at their price point, negligible. I carry mine with all six cylinder chambers loaded, despite the warning, but definitely with the safety ON.
@@Mackensp99I think what he means is that gun can’t go off without putting the gun in full cock, like every single action revolver. An in built safety.
@@Mackensp99 that is how the colts were made but heritage doesn't advise doing such with their revolvers- not sure if its a lawyer thing or something else. My 2 cents are to just cowboy load it and carry with the hammer/firing pin on an empty chamber.
I bought a few of them. They shoot great. Two of them had problems with the barrels. The barrels come loose some how. Not exactly sure why. The other ones are awesome. I love them.
I'm still loving my Rough Rider. I just saw they are selling not only the different grips but now engraved cylinders. Thinking about getting some matching groups and cylinders
@- Ashai - absolutely not true. Its a known fact that engraving, particularly the American eagle, makes women want you and men want to be you. Enemies flee at the sight of a screaming American eagle coming towards them.
I have one i bought used off an auction site. Called heritage to ask the date from the serial number. That was 2 years ago. Frond it was from rhe mid 90's don't remember what year. Other then the screw That found the injection rod was backwards. Thing has worked perfectly. Thing is 24 years old give or take a couple.
No Issues at all for me...Hickock45 likes it and the Ruger...he just did a side by side video of them and I agree with him, it is a wonderful little Revolver.
Nice look at a fun gun. I just recently purchased the buffalo nickel 22Mag cylinder for my RR and already had the buffalo nickel grips, so most likely will use it in conjunction with my Ruger 10/22 collection as a combo system. 22lr out of a rifle has mostly the same velocity as 22Mag out of the 6" revolver. Cheers!
It isn't that hard to make something out of aluminum. I've made parts for an old 8 track player with no more than a hack saw, drill, and a file. I believe if I ever buy a Heritage Rough Rider the first thing I would do is to remove the tab on the ejector rod so I could trace it out on a piece of aluminum and start making a aluminum tab for my Rough Rider. You can purchase small sticks of aluminum very reasonable at TSC.
I just purchased the replacement ejector rod with the aluminum tab from a fella on eBay. Seems to be a nice durable alternative to the stock plastic one.
I bought a RR convertable. After 200 rounds i noticed what looked like cutting torch marks in frame on each side of barell. They stood behind warranty, replacing frame and rebuilding gun. Even showing old frame to prove it was not reused. 2 years later i went to go shooting and noticed frame screws on bottom were loose, i retightened 2, the 3rd screwhead snapped off. Sold ot and got a ruger single six
I got the 6.5" barrel because I wanted to use primarily .22 WMR in it. Magnum ammo is not as effective out of a short barrel, at that point you may as well just use .22 LR. The extra energy is wasted out the barrel as noise instead of propelling the bullet.
There is a video here comparing different length barrel rough riders with a chronograph and both ammo types, results showed that actually the 4.something inch barrel gave just slightly higher velocity. Longer barrel added nothing but more resistance for the round to get out of the barrel, because of the cylinder gap extra barrel length doesn't help. 22wmr does give a benefit but not as much as in a rifle, because all the powder doesn't have a chance to ignite before the round leaves the barrel. Shoot something up close with it and you'll see unburnt power all over what you were shooting at with both ammo types.
I have one really good gun plus have the ruger wrangler love them both the heritage to me handles better plus I could put the 22 mag cylinder in where I can't with the ruger
Had a gun store tell me he quit selling heritage because of problems and sending the gun back took 6 months to fix and return, I bought a ruger wrangler love it, I trust ruger. Also was told Taurus makes heritage.
Taurus owns Heritage, having bought them out, but they did not (yet) change how, where, or by whom Heritage guns are made. Ruger has put up a solid product into this budget-SA revolver market, but it remains a very limited contender, since the Wrangler is only available in one caliber, grip style, and barrel length.
This is one of the major things holding me up from getting a Heritage pistol. I like the price and gun looks nice, but the warranty seems to be hit and miss. Watched one guy's video he said it took six months before they was able to fix his pistol. The way they finally fixed it was sent him a new gun.
I purchased my first rough rider 22lr in 2002, way before the popularity game started, everyone said buy the ruger single action, anyway, I bought the rough rider, and can say I have never had any issues or problems since owning, its a great 22, and would recommend anyone interested to buy, while you still can.
Loud is good. Makes strange smells in intruders drawers. And even might find a sandal or two with some torn shirt. And torn raspberry bushes. Yes loud is good. Thanks I own one SGT williams retired
@@deekay3064 when I get mugged and near loose the use of my right side. Almost like a stroke and cost $53.000 thousand bucks for repair of my broken neck. you bet I can get very cold and and defensive of this old body. God bless. sgt williams retired.
The only problem that I've have with mine concerns the ejector rod assembly. The screw that holds the housing to the barrel came loose. It was a simple fix with a drop of Locktite on the screw.
There is more than one screw that may need Loctite according to another channel. My 9 round model does not index properly to allow rod to eject case. I need to turn the cylinder an extra ~ 1/16th of an inch. Others have reported the issue with their 9 round. One RU-vid channel host shows that his 9 round does index properly. One person responded that their 6 round does not index properly. One person said Heritage did not consider it to be a warranty issue.
Hadda Hawe's SA pistol & ga ve it 2 my daughter 4 self defense now. Dream of one of these someday. Sadly as a DAV & 7 g/kids not very likely now! Glad 4 Ull that got one or 2 or more LoL !! Shooot ON Matey's
Thanks for the video. I have stockpiled for my Mossberg 702 Plinkster .22 rifle about 1,100 rounds of .22 LR ammunition. I was thinking i need to get a pistol to help eat that ammo before it goes bad. How accurate would you say that revolver is? I like to target shoot to challenge myself. I wish there was a model with adjustable sights. I am not concerned about hysterical accuracy.
The ammo should stay good for quite some time with proper storage. But yes this would be a great addition to any persons gun collection. Cheap and fun for whatever you plan to do with it. For what the sights are, the gun is fairly accurate. Within 25 yards with a quick rest, I’ve had good results with mine even with the not non-adjustable sights. I’ve painted the front post white on mine which helps me pick up targets a bit easier. Go for it and thanks for watching!
@@sconniewoodsmen3210 Thanks for the reply. I live in NC and local store called " Dunham Sports " has the Rough rider alone for $119.00. I am debating whether it is worth getting the winmag cylinder. Will all versions accept the wm cylinder? Do you think with the short pistol barrel 6 1/2 " I think ) you get much more velocity from the WM round?
@@Bill23799 Yep Dunham Sports is where I picked up mine a few years ago on sale. Heritage will give you the coupon in the box to buy an extra cylinder. Should work with any of the rough rider models. I have the cylinder but rarely ever shoot 22wmr. For the small price it’s kinda a nice feature to be able to. I like convertible style revolvers. Being able to have options with one gun is a great feature.
@@sconniewoodsmen3210 Thanks for the input. I will probably just buy the revolver now and buy the WMR cylinder in another month or so. I live on a low disability income so there is not much left after paying bills. I have been looking at reviews of the Rough Rider and it seems almost all is positive but there are a few who say they have had problems right out of the box with breaking springs or not firing all ammo. I know that all .22LR is not created equal. All of my .22LR ammunition is either CCI Blazer or Federal. I have not had problems with any misfires using this ammo with my Mossberg 702 Plinkster. Have you had any issues with your Rough Rider?
@@Bill23799 Bill it is a great little gun for the small price. Yes I would get the win mag cylinder because it gives you another option for a different round. they are interchangeable. I start new shooters out on it and then change out to the mag and then go to 9mm. They all enjoy the hell out of it and it is pretty accurate to.
I'm a big fan of plinking on the cheap these days. So funny, I have a new Barkeep, and just got a Rough Rider with the bird eye grips, but it didn't come with the mag cylinder. I reflexively, and with GREAT URGENCY, went to order the mag cylinder. And then I stopped and wondered why. lol Suffice to say, I stopped. Well...I did order me some white pearl grips. 🤣 My collection, is being reduced to my .22s, 12ga, and 9mm when we're splurging. Great video. You definitely know your way around firearms.
@@themrsluggo oh, I immediately got the mag cylinder, and now have all but the 6.5". But they're quick to change out, I can only shoot one a time, and lastly, I always bring several other guns to the range. Best thing about the .22s is the cost of the ammo, and they're just plain fun to handle. They led me right into my beloved 38 special and .45 SAs.
@@stratolestele7611 "I immediately got the mag cylinder", "Best thing about the .22s is the cost of the ammo..." you must be kidding, almost $30 for a box of WMR vs $3.50 for the LR.
In shorter bbl's. the ballistics don't make it worthy, the .22lr vs. .22 wmr. Now @ 6.5 " the mag may be a consideration. So much for " plinking on the cheap " ❤?
Wish mine had that barrel. I got the 9 inch barrel and the balance is way off. Thought about cutting it back if I could find a gun smith to put another front sight on it .
Are you having an issue with the Heritage shooting left with the 22 mag cylinder? I ordered 2 mag and 1 LR. Both of the LR cylinders work perfectly and shoots true. Where both mag cylinders it shoots left about 6 inches at 10 yards. Not sure why but I am guessing the clocking is just a hair off. I could see or understand human error if it was random but every single shot goes left.
I love my RR pistol. I got the 22lr/22wmr combo recently. I couldnt wait to shoot it My biggest complaint is you have to aim 8 inches low to hit bulls eye from 15 ft.
I'm so confused... I watched the whole video and I can't figure out what the one problem is... did I just totally miss it or did he never address what the one problem with the Heritage actually is... which is the title of the video... which is why I watched the whole thing... I feel a little upset.
You weren’t paying attention when he was talking about the ejector rod . They are plastic and the end that you push with your finger breaks off. 😉. Pretty common with that pistol if you let it snap back.
This is the first of two dozen or more videos I have watched on the Heritage revolvers where someone said the ejector part broke. So I doubt it is a common problem for those that release it slowly. I wonder if a file is available for doing a 3D printout of the part.
PSA Armory, on sale, $99 and mag cylinder free. For now. Act quick. Just got my mag cylinder. have a 6.5 inch on order and will order the free cylinder for it also before it runs out.
Actually a 22 well it won't bounce around inside of a bear's skull like a pinball, causing Max damage. That's why they were a prime choice for Mafia hitmen.
I own one of these. The safety is such that it keeps the hammer back from the frame mounted integral firing pin. How much safer can one get? You can load all cylinders, put the safety on, and it will NOT EVER give you an unexpected discharge. NOPE. NEVAH. The hammer is blocked from the frame's integral firing pin. This is the best reason I ever saw for a safety on a revolver. ~~~~~ Whatever other revolver had a safety? The Webley? If there were others I would surely like to know. ~~~~~ Further, I FREAKNIG CRINGE when some clueless author talks about taking off the safety of a revolver? I read LOTS. When I find a book passage that is not real regarding weapons, I offer the author to be a coach, for free, to the author for future works. I write to all of those fools I find, being happy to be an ex-spurt on their portrayal of firearms. Just for fun, and without compensation. I would give this editing advice for free, just for the spirit of absolute correctness??? Guess how many accept my free advice? NONE. Authors don't care about authenticity. When I am reading a novel and a person takes the safety off on a revolver? Or a Glock? --->>> I stop reading and send the book back to the library. This stuff is just so easy to work out if an author really cared? :-[
@@allywilkeforsenate "Your brain is your safety. If you need more you need more training"....WOW, careful...well...your rough rider has a "hammer" doesn't it? That's a safety, genius.
LOL! Duck Dynasty? Oh lord give me a break. Sorry, I hate "reality TV." It's anything but reality. What I love is my Heritage revolver. Every gun safe should include a .22 of some sort. I wanted a Ruger Single Six, but couldn't find one that didn't cost an arm and a leg. Took a chance on the Heritage and I'm happy I did.
.....Yes....I never liked those freaky bearded bastards.....I don't buy something because a "celebrity" endorsed it....I buy it because I like it.....Those bearded guys are all inbred weirdos anyways.
A frame safety and you need to keep an empty cylinder. No thanks, I'll go with the Ruger Wrangler. Better yet, my Single Six Convertible. And yes, I know that's not a fair comparison because a new SS Convertible costs about $800. But, I bought mine a long time ago for $225.00 and I will pass it on to my grandson.
I tell you this either you locktite it or you carry a screwdriver (see video) with it. It may tighten up in time, I'm at about 300 rounds. I'm going to try just tightening it for a couple thousand rounds before I put some blue on it.
My RR developed a timing issue out of nowhere! First shot always fires but after that it's hit and miss. I will shoot everytime if I manually seat the cylinder in place😢
I'm a glutton for punishment. I owned two Single Six revolvers before buying a Rough Rider. If the first of those were as accurate as my Rough Rider is, I'd have not tried again with a second one, and if that had been as accurate as my Rough Rider is, I'd not be using a Rough Rider now. Even so, I scored a deal on a stainless Single Six that I need like an extra body orifice and put it on layaway, so when it is also not as accurate as my Rough Rider is, I should at least be able to "flip it" and make a few bucks. It might surprise me, though. I hope it does. The Single Six is something I WANT to like but I've never had my hands on a New Model Single Six that was accurate enough to have any fun with. So the odds seem not to be in my favor. I would not even consider buying a Wrangler,
Bought one miss fires one or two rounds every cylinder tried all brands of ammo thought about sending it back but decided it just not worth the trouble I won't buy another heritage anything
$99 omg.. in canada they go for $300-500 in 2022.. that was before our government froze/ban all handguns.. now we Canadians can not get them anymore.., luckily i bought two of these before our law changed in October 2022.. as of 2022 in canada you are still allowed to use them at the range, but you can't sell or pass it to anymore even if you about to pass,,, which is sad for our younger generation who won't be able to buy even those cheap revolvers.. and in canada if the police see you shooting at an animal (pests racoon or whatever) with a legit handgun, you loose all your legit guns forever, and go to jail with a nice lifetime criminal record. Here we can only use handguns at the range whichnusually cost $400 a year tombe a member.
Note: The comment on the barrel is for two purposes #1 Cool Decoration & #2 to make Ruger Single Action 22LRs look stupid for having a transfer bar !!!!!!
