I’ve been stuck on a plateau for years. During this time, I’ve been exclusively following another popular instructor. I found your RU-vid channel when I was looking for someone with a similar philosophy regarding the right arm throw. What I found was I’ve been neglecting the importance of hip movement. I’ve been the guy with an overly wide base that has trouble getting to the left side. I’ve had some positive results on the course simply focusing on getting on that left foot as my first move down. As you suggest, I’ve been using the chair drill trying to ingrain the feel as well as narrowing my base. Thanks for the insight Steve!

I've been working on cancelling out early extension for a while and this move/concept really does clinch it for me. Works wonders. You've been very helpful Sir. Thanks for being a great teacher, and for sharing Your insights!

Once again, nicely done and explained Steve. The "bump and raise" allows the club head to "get on" the "proper" circle and complete the downswing. Due to our anatomy the circle of the back swing cannot exactly reprise the shape of the circle on the downswing unless the left hip bumps and drops the club onto the proper plane. I have found this downswing move to be difficult to consistently accomplish.

Hi Steve, I have been going this exercise for about 4 months and it really works. I'm 5-4 in height and can hit my drives and irons longer. I also using this exercise with my golf students to feel the transfer of weight and the turn of the hips. My students are from third grade to 8th grade and they are finally starting to get it. You should see their faces when they swing correctly and use this move and how far the ball goes without really swinging fast. Thank you for all you do.

Really, good video Steve. This motion is working so well to improve my game, it's hard to describe. This move is so important, Thanks so much for illustrating. I just completed a PVC butt chair to use in my back yard (saw one on one of your previous podcasts). Spray painted and waiting for it to dry as I write this. A completely satisfied subscriber.. Great lesson! I was just at the PGA Superstore indoor range today w sand wedge, 7hybrid, and driver. Thought crossed my mind that something is preventing my top half or torso from fully rotating...at and after impact. -Maybe this is it. I need the secondary tilt. Many instructors tell you NOT to “bump”. I think any move towards the target frees up the swing and feels more natural. I’ve already been taking your footwork advice and try to think shift weight to heel of front foot once I’ve made a full backswing turn. It’s made a huge difference. I will practice the one handed bump then swing through drill you showed here. Thank you!

Thanks Steve, Can you make a video showing some common bad flight trajectories and what causes it, i.e. strong grip equals hooks, weak grip equals slices, bad foot alignment etc. Show bad flight tendencies and then corrections.

hi Steve, the difference compare to Dustin and Rory is you bump your hip pass your ankle and turn the right side by momentum continuously to the bump. Rory and dustin still keep the left hip inside the ankle and form an angle with upper left leg so they can use the push of the left leg to turn the hip after the bump. In the other words Mike Austin hip bump is more aggressive than modern players where the bump is more like a fall backward to the lead side .

What happens if your hips bump out towards the right instead of towards the target?
@bernardsmith1230

I tried this but noticed my head was going forward to. When I keep behind it a bit longer with upper body I get way more distance. Would you suggest consciously trying to keep your head back aswell

Can you set your L hip forward in the setup would that work?
@LeinonenHannu
@LeinonenHannu 3 года назад
I’ve been trying to figure out a concept or metafora for hip motion. Best I’ve found is an idea to think of hip/bum as a counter weight. So the idea is to let the weight of me rear end speed up my swing :-)

Good one to look at. He's definitely an anomaly as he's doing it with brute force. How long do you think he can swing like that without a back injury?

@@Inmotion70 well i have practiced for hours with his swing i never felt any stress on my back or on my knees. He has best swing both variable wise and injury prevention wise.
