Fun fact: This modern chord pattern that is the one everyone knows was composed by Dave Van Ronk and used without permission by Bob Dylan on his self titled first album, as he didn't have enough songs. He asked Dave if he could record it after the session was already finished for Columbia records, and Dave said that actually he had plans to record it, and that he would rather Bob didn't. Dylan's response was "woops" :). Dave Van Ronk found a lot of pleasure when Eric Burdon & The Animals stole the chord pattern from Bob, and became way more famous than his version. He had the greatest laugh, and was also one of the greatest folk players and singers ever. RIP Dave. X

Well done. I learned guitar in 2009 by watching Marty's videos. Glad to see he's still killing it. Funny how many things Marty does that I do. I think Marty taught more than just music, he brings the soul of playing music to the lessons.

My Man Marty! I've been watching and learning from Marty since like 2006 nearly two decades! He helped me so much when I was first starting out and along the way to this day, by far the best guitar teacher I have ever come across. I've learned more from this man than probably anyone in my life. And here you are playing my favorite song, love it. My pops was an old school Chicago blues man and I first learned to play specifically so I could play this song with my dad and now that he's gone this is the song I play went I think of him. I was even so lucky to go to a studio right before he died and get a recording of us playing this song together with my pops singing. ❤️😎

Another cool video from Marty! This is literally the first song I "learned" as part of the old Esteban guitar course. I remember being frustrated by all the quick chord changes that seemed to interrupt what strumming cadence I could keep up, not to mention the F chord which I struggled to play in barre form although I did not know the name of the chord fingering at the time. My guess is that I could play it at a level 3 as I am probably an intermediate player now.

This was my first song as well. I detect some sarcasm in your comment! My favourite part was the forced introduction of barre chords in the form of the F barre chord. That was sarcasm. But it was a good song to challenge the player early on.

You're still smiling! Love the enthusiasm and exuberance. Your funky jazz improv is right up there with Carlos. Most XLNT, mi amigo.Some day, I'll be a tad beyond the basics. Your D chord looks diff from the one and two finger on the 2nd fret and ring on the third. Am I missing something with your fret work? And the bar F eludes the helloutta me. Mahalo. PS. Do you have Clapton's Let it Rain?

I haven't played in 7 years. 15 years if you don't count two 6 week seasonal holiday gigs (desperate times lead to desperate set lists 😆) Great video man, as always. Nice video. I definitely preferred the sequences in 6/8 time, as recorded by The Animals. The ‘Green Day’ section, in 4/4 time, seemed to lose a lot of the blues feel.

funny enough, the F barchord has always been easier to play for me... that´s the one I learned quickly when learning the basic open chords and I´m playing that one to this day... never really bothered learning the "cheater F" :)

@michaelskywalker3089
@michaelskywalker3089 2 года назад
My first guitar made it difficult to play F. As an intermediate player I use both forms and find them useful in different ways. The "cheater F" is very useful when fingerpicking or flat picking out melodies. I rarely need that low F in the barre chord form to strengthen the chord, also the 4 fingered F chord allows me to do hammer ons and pull offs on the e and b, first and second strings. When doing heavy strumming I need that full F barre chord or at least a decent power chord version of it.

The F barre chord would be the correct way to play it if you want to sound like the record
