This video is to bring attention to the Shikar Mini Stick Mod. Comes in at almost half the price and is the best packing stick on the market. Fits on my Custom Gear Modification roll pouch perfectly.
I switched to one-stick climbing mid-season last year and went with the mini Shikar as well. I did upgrade and add the slanted scout but on the bottom. I use that in conjunction with a ROS placed around the stick and tree to give me three additional foot placements. This setup is working very well for me so far. Thanks for the very thorough walk through of the options and your reasonings for your choices.
@@platinumpursuitoutdoors I really like using them paired with the scout platform. For an long sit the ring of steps by itself can be a bit uncomfortable to me. The tree hopper steps work great but are a bit bulky to carry in. I’m hoping to try some of the new Pioneer Steps from Silent Approach.
I bought 5 hunting beast sticks. Only use 4 since I made a 1 step aider on each stick out of amsteel. I absolutely love it. I can get feet over 24' with 4 sticks. 5 beast sticks $400.
@@thomasmorrow5740 I can honestly say I love the set up I got. The new stuff is lighter but loud. The saddle i got is so comfortable. Every person will like something different. I don't mind to carry in a few more pounds a mile to have a 6 hour comfortable set lol.
I thought about trying one sticking but thought to expensive for this season maybe next year. Have to keep us updated as far as how you are liking one sticking and how useful it truly is.
@@platinumpursuitoutdoors plus rappel rope, madrock, etc. Right now my climbing method cost me $99 for hawk minis and $40 for Amsteel for aiders and daisy chains. 😊
This is an awesome video. I was pretty much set on buying the ultimate platform but this gives another great option to think about. I'm in the same situation as you and already have the predator that I like so I really only need the climbing method and this is as compact as it gets. Also, is the only reason you add the 2nd step to get a little more distance from every move?
Hey thx! Look at the latest video I posted. Shikar Mini Mod Post Season review. And yes.. they top step gives me an extra grab handle and also adds 8 - 9” to my climb every move. So I get a little over 2’ extra in 3 moves by having that.
@@platinumpursuitoutdoors that's what I figured. I think I'm going to do the same thing as you with the 2 steps. The only change I'm considering is possibly trying a daisy chain instead of a cam cleat. Do you think that would work or is the cam cleat the only way in your opinion?
I started with the daisy chain but once I went with the cam cleat I never looked back. Daisy chains can work though But it can get tricky with trees but don’t land on the loop properly. When you go to set your stick what time standoff has a tendency to want to hit the daisy chain.
Would you recommend the Shikar mini for a short guy that's only 5'5" i'm already 1 sticking with a modded Hawk helium and i'm torn between these 2 sticks but the price tag of the mini is much more appealing. i already have the cam cleat and a 3 step aider.
I'm not a one stick hunter. I did decide to go Shikar mini sticks with three step aiders for less weight and packability. I do have four of the 20 inch Shikar sticks. I feel like the mini sticks are the way to go. Any thoughts?
I think Shikar Minis with a three step aider is great. The only hesitation is when you try to climb trees that are not completely straight your feet want to slip out from the aider and it is a little bit more dangerous than using just regular sticks. Just make sure you’re tied to the tree and using a lineman‘s belt.
Yes sir! I fell and it happened so quick. I use all precaution that I can now. Thankfully I was only 5 feet off the ground. But I did end up hanging myself upside down by my right leg with my naider!
So you messed up on your pricing. You're not putting 0 in where it automatically has 1 in at the Ultimate Platform. $410 is with the scout and the UP. Take the UP off and only add the scout you're around $300. I did the same thing and at check out I was corrected. Also the Sh1kar one stick you have to add Harkin cam cleat and am steel rope. You're above $230 after all that. They aren't that much different in price. The UOS full setup is around $273 (w Scout) the Sh1kar without cam cleat and am steel with a 14" stick is $228 (w Monarch) then you have to add the Cam Cleat and the Am Steel. Which neither is cheap. The cam cleat is around $25-$30 and the am steel I bought for I think around $17. So you're looking at around $275 with a ready to hunt Sh1kar 14 inch with Monarch. The Scoit is about $15 cheaper. Your mini stick is probably a tad cheap than the 12-14 inch they offer as a package but these are about the same when ordering as a bundle. If you aren't familiar with customizing or DIYing your sticks like most ppl and want to buy as a package they'll come in at around the same * if you're buying a stick and then DIY some things you'd come out a bit cheaper but that's also the extra work you're doing yourself. But if someone is about to purchase one of these 2 bundles ready to hunt pricing isn't too far off. I just got the UOS Ultimate Platform package for $308 (the UP alone is $120) and the Sh1kar 14" package for $205 but had to add cam cleat and am steel for + $57. I chose the upgraded feather light standoff x1 and feather stick upgrade on my UOS as well. If you choose the Ultimate Platform you only need 1 standoff so take $27 off the $120 on the UP vs Scout or Monarch in comparison because they require 2 standoffs. So basically all you're saving is the Platform you're not attaching to the sh1kar mini stick.
Yah the numbers you said do not add up over $300. Even adding the 2 standoffs. You didn't take the $120 Ultimate Platform off. Set it at 0 thrn update. You'll be be just below $300 I believe.
That exact stick setup you have with the Scout is $290.93 before taxes. Not $400+ the $400+ you mentioned was with the UP added and a second standoff which you don't need
Hey Michael, thank you for catching that in regards to the EWO!! Good catch. Both me and my buddy who owns this stick we’re trying to figure out why the price was so high. However, on the Mini Mod… I listed all the prices which are accurate. $74.99 for the mini, $34.50 for the 3 step aider, $10.99 for the additional top step, $28-30 for the cam cleat and $28 for the rope mod if you buy it from EWO. My stick as is in the video was around $179. Thanks again for catching that! I’ve already reached out to EWO and told them they should probably not automatically put one there but rather just a zero.
Yah I did the same thing. It took me a while because I kept adding it up and could NOT figure out where the $410 was coming from. Apparently a lot of ppl do the same thing
I’ll be working on it here soon. To me, I like the pack ability. If you don’t want to pack it down, it’s still smaller than the majority of the sticks. The total weight combination is like 1.9 pounds. It bites to the trees really well. The Ater has held up very nice. The more I use it, the more I have liked it.
@@platinumpursuitoutdoors true , I have had the ewo stick in my cart like 6 times but then I realize what I'm getting for what I'm paying isn't there and don't end up going through with it .
