This is the ultimate mobile climbing system for me. This video is not intended for people to identically duplicate or even make this system. Climbing trees is very dangerous so every individual needs to be prepared to assume all of the risks and liability before attempting hunting from a tree or climbing one. If you want to further analyze my approach, the parts I used to make my setup are as follows
Tube aluminum from onlinemetal.com

10 inches of 2,000-pound strength rock climbing rope - amzn.to/2EdJDO9 - (I've also used this material to make my lineman's rope to hang from, utilizing prussic chord - amzn.to/3kY8Qgp
4,500-pound breaking strength webbing for the ladder - amzn.to/3l0LqqH
about 4 feet of 550-pound breaking strength cordage - amzn.to/2Q7Lcjn
Green PVC pipe - amzn.to/2Qc1K9K
Straps and legs to that go against the tree were from XOP climbing sticks. Similar Lone Wolf straps can be purchased on Amazon with this link - amzn.to/3l2o7g3

Since several people have missed it and then asked, I will note that you have to watch the video in full to see how I attach the ladder to me so that it can't fall to the ground. I use a piece of paracord rated at 550 pounds and a steel carabiner rated over 1000 pounds, tie one end to the top of the ladder and the other end clips onto my saddle. Even if I were to drop the ladder (which I intentionally do when coming down the tree for one of the steps) it is going to just hang there waiting for me to grab the paracord and keep going.

I used the brackets off of a set of Lone Wolf climbing sticks but you can also buy something like that online. I have seen them for sale at around $20 each.

First, let me say that I watch hundreds of hunting related videos from climbing methods, saddles, treestands, steps, sticks… I’ve seen it all. Then I see the most innovative DIY system I’ve ever seen. Those step/sticks are fantastic! I will definitely be looking more into this!

Thanks. Let me give you an observation I made after using it a bit. It works on straight tree but slanted trees it became tough to climb because you hang off the side of the tree in a real awkward way. If you try making something similar stick to straight trees.

I built these yesterday. I just went from carrying almost 12lbs worth of climbing sticks to under 3lbs (including the Tethrd Versalinks used for straps)! Now that's what I'm talking about! You can't go wrong with much less bulk and much less weight. Thank you for the video!!!!

Just be sure to use it on straight trees. I tried it on a badly slanted tree once and it was really tough to get up.

I really like this. This might be a future project for me. But I currently rappel down and I’m far and away sold on it. The speed, ease, and safety of it is such that I’ll never not rappel down again. Thanks for sharing

Excellent idea. This is very similar to what DIY Sportsman has done as well. Both of you are truly an inspiration to the rest of us. BTW, that knot when you tie two knots that oppose each other and slide to grab each other when force is applied is called a "Fisherman's knot"

Nice!! Will make a set, but am thinking, you could just use one, use a rope cam lock, and rappell down....you call them steps, but you never step on them, they are just hangers for your aider, which is cool, and great idea on the pvc for the aider step!!

@@seansoutdoors makes sense. Any aider system is tough to use on slanted trees due to the need to dig your toe into the tree for stability. Great set up though. I haven't seen anything like it.

First and foremost, Thank you Sir for making these videos. I'm a new Hunter, getting overwhelmed with all the things people recommend I "should" have. But, most, very rarely, explain how things work. All of the videos I've been watching from you have given me more knowledge on the actual machanics and break down. I'm slowly getting my gear that I will need for hunting. For your top knot look up a water knot and try that. It will be 100% strength retainability and will look and function much better IMO. Great job on the ladder I will be making one of my own just like it.

Go think tank. Great idea. I don’t think that it’s for me, but it’s always cool to use an original idea that you created . Maybe clip a lightweight tether from the aider to your saddle somewhere just in case it slips out of your hand. Be safe brotha!

Use two lineman ropes. Just put one above the branch then disconnect the one below and keep going

Do the rungs on the ladder-aider that you made spin? It seems that they could if you didn't get your foot all the way in. Also it the pvc slippery? I really enjoyed the video and the system. I may give it a go myself.

I would suggest viewers debur the interior of the tube after cutting and drilling since nylon webbing is fed inside and great tension is applied with each step

I think if you used a knaider/swaider climbing system instead of your multi step aider, you could get up and down the tree even quicker and easier. Great design!

I like the steps, everything else looks like a hazard. Seems easier and safer to place a few more footholds than screw around with that ladder in the dark. Not to mention if the wind is blowing.

I dont get it. Id carry a Volkswagen in the woods every time if its comfortable. Its become a common trend on youtube to complicate a simple process of climbing to shed a few lbs. Why not just carry good quality light weight sticks. These systems look maddening in the dark or coming down freezing cold. Im a mobile hunter too, I look for good quality comfortable, reliable gear and rarely concern myself with weight. What am I missing?

How far do you walk to your hunting spot and how many times have you had to drag a 200 pound deer back out? Donut enough times and the compact and light weight will make more sense

@@seansoutdoors I grew up hunting river bottoms on state land. Im No stranger to long drags. I hunt as far from people as possible but have always prioritized comfort over pack weight. I killed a big 8 on opening day last year solo. Dragged it with my gear and summit climber on my back almost 2 miles. Im a deer dragging machine. Lol

@@B.r.i.a.n.1 Perhaps try putting yourself in someone else's shoes if you are seeking understanding. For instance, after college, I joined a Franciscan religious order where we vowed to live in poverty, chastity, and obedience. I took it seriously and to the extreme. In my young immaturity, I looked down on the brothers who wore glasses because I didn't think that was living poverty. I have perfect eyesight and so I don't need glasses, which means it was easy for me to say no one should wear glasses who vows to love in poverty. But, for the person who can't see without glasses, it is a necessity to be able to function at a reasonable capacity. In essence, I needed to learn empathy and how to look at situations from other people's perspectives and needs. That is basically what I was trying to get through to you. Not everyone is as physically strong and fit as you have made yourself sound, and perhaps you should try putting yourself in the shoes of someone who simply is not capable of doing what you can do. Those of us who struggle with all that weight and gear while trying to also drag a deer many miles out of the forest, we look for ways to lower the weight so that we can manage the drag better. Smart setup, but for your safety I would really recommend you not use a square knot at the top of your webbing ladder. A double fisherman's knot like is typically used on prusik loops would be much safer and wouldn't add much bulk. Happy hunting.

Excellent design for the latest craze in mobile hunting. It'll be copied and merchandised. Allow me ,a 63 year old hunter to just stick to my Summit Climber and carry the 20 lbs and walk half as far. My weight savings is in the feather weight of my recurve bow versus the heavy compounds. Good video 👍

Where did you source the tree bracket that connects to the aluminum step pole? As far as dangerous, as long as you climb and have experience with a safety climbing system with a prisic type or an ascender/descender, with a body harness, I think you take some of the danger out of it. If you fall the safety system should catch you. Of course, I would test practice on very low heights to check and recheck all of your gear to ensure its not going to fail.

very cool. I've been up three times in my Summit Viper, about 8-10'. With a supply bag, it's probably 35 or 40 lbs. I've finally got shoulder straps and molle belt to make it easier to pack into the woods and back. Now I'm wondering if I should just switch to a saddle system which seems so much lighter and simpler... or maybe try to get a few kills with the climber first, to justify the cost :)

Believe I'm going to try this. Any thoughts on things you'd do differently with a JX3 Hybrid? Just got it and am getting into saddle style hunting. Also, any idea on where you can get the legs that go against the tree without having to cannibalize some others?

Wow. I never go over 18 feet or so. The angle of the shot at a deer ten yards away gets steep enough as it is.

I don't use it right now. It only works on straight trees. If there is a lean to the tree it doesn't work well

Hey Sean, I really like the design of those sticks...simple and effective. How do you think they would handle side pressure? I would like to use one alongside my platform as an extra place to put my foot when you have to move around the tree.

I think if you pushed hard from the side it might be able to slide. I will have to do a test on that in one of the follow up videos I do on this system in the near future ... Keep an eye out for it

I like the weight of this homemade system! I have just started getting into the saddle based hunting system and enjoy watching your inputs on this. It gets a bit annoying hearing "I do not recommend this..." I know you're protecting yourself but I think I heard it 50 times lol... Looks like a brilliant idea the only thing that looks a bit sketchy for me not for you would be that stretch where your foot is on the rope ladder and you’re moving up the tether if that leg gives out it could be a nasty experience appreciate the video good luck hunting

This set up is nice and would work very well with a linemans belt or adjustable rope tether around the tree to stabilize you well climbing I have an idea instead of tying knots in the material for the ladder stand where you placed the steps so as not to weaken the material and keep it strong I would like to find out where you found the webbing material that strong? Also I have and idea on how to make the steps a little wider at the top for the foot to rest easier and safer on the top of the step.

It only works well on straight trees. If the tree has a slant then it hangs off the side in an uncomfortable way.

I use the strapping material and cut a long piece. I then cut a piece of green PVC pipe and slid it down to the center of the bottom of the long piece. I tied a knot in the strap on both sides of the PVC so that it couldn't slide around. Up about a foot and a half I slid the strap through another piece of PVC from the opposite ends, one from the right one from the left. I then tied a knot on each side of the plastic piece so that it could not slide around or slide down the strap. And then went up about another foot and a half slid the strap through another piece of PVC pipe and tie the knot on each end so that the pipe could not slide around. I then tied a loop in the top. To make it easier to use in my system I tied a more rigid type of rope to that which would make it go on and off of my step easier. Not really. I got the stuff to try SRT climbing the year after just to give it a try and I was hooked on it. It’s easier and since it’s just ropes and no metal it’s even easier to pack up and carry. I just set a piece of cordage at the tree during the summer that I intend to use during hunting season and pull then my climbing rope over the limb when I get there to hunt. I fly right up the rope and repel down when finished.

You do not do any filming I can tell. I'm wearing a lapel mic. Try wearing a lapel mic and climb anything. You're used to watching people who don't wear a mic and the video camera mic is used for the audio. Go get a lapel mic, and climb a tree. No matter who you are, it's going to surprise you that you will sound just like this even.if you work out at a gym and are in perfect shape. Shew. I am a 12 to 15 feet guy. Sometimes even lower if short trunk trees. I have had two different tree stands, a ladder, and a climber, collapse or spin around a tree. Lucky I survived the falls. This was pre-safety harness days. Don't think the outcome would be the same that high. Had three bucks at the same time 360 degrees within feet of me and they never winded me 12 feet up. Also the steep shot angles from that high can get interesting. Quite a bit of wind sway as well.

I observed you file the outside edges to get rid of the burgers that might’ve been present after the cut but I didn’t see you do anything with the inside of the tube where are you cut or were you drilled holes and it seems like that might be an issue where sharp metal meets nylon strapping even if it’s covered with camouflage duct tape

The way the bolt components attach they completely cover the hole, there is no contact with the area where the hole was drilled by the material. It is not an issue.

Sean's Outdoor Adventures thanks I watched the video again and realized I did a poor job explaining my concerns. I mean the green material you feed the webbing through which become the steps in your ladder. You described it but my feeble hearing couldn’t detect what that material was, only that you bought on Amazon and cut into 6” sections. You didn’t show that part and that is what I was asking about. The strap on part on which the aider/ladder hangs is awesome as is the cordage to retrieve the ladder. So if you could cover the green material that was my concern. Any sharp metal and nylon webbing are not good bedfellows. Thanks looking forward to hearing back

Agree this is best presented as food for thought - and agree XOP is heavy equipment - watching this routine I see it takes a LONG Time for you Sean to climb up and back down - way too long for me comparing your routine say to me at the bottom of a tree with 3 hawk helium sticks - understood I don't get 30 feet high with 3 sticks but 30 feet is not really productive for bowhunting due to foliage and shot angle - and I would caution all to try something else because this routine IN THE DARK ?!?!?!? is No Way productive and a lot less safe. The benefit of 2.5# or 4# is what ?? maybe if we were elk hunting a spring seep 8 miles in but for whitetails face it guys 95% of you are less than half a mile in. With sticks AND Stand I can carry 25# - EASY - any day and nothing unsafe entering in the dark and climbing back down in the dark. My climber is just a couple of pounds heavier - again EASY. For those of you who want to climb with the least amount of weight look at climbing spikes - easy - light - for you young guys anyay - and I consider Sean a young guy.

Please Sean do a video with climbing spurs and line mans rope "flip line" on the saddle. I am looking into this method and I notice everybody is trying to go ultra lite. I have just bought the TETHRD platform and mantis,and the millennium M250 sticks they are lite, but seen a few ideas like a lone wolf hand climber portion as a climbing method I tried that and that didnt pan out to well though.

I am surprised you don't use with a grip / foot ascender, 30ft climbing rope, off of some scouting presets set with fishing twine. Set the presets with a telescoping light pole 5 - 25ft pole instead of throwing them. Presets set in minutes and on to next preset. Just show up in dark, tie in climbing rope, pully it back over limb, hook in ascenders and at 20+ feet quietly, tethered in and a lot safer and then rappel down (MadRock Safeguard) = lot safer and quieter. Be the *PREDATOR* Sean!

For that loop of climbing rope opposing overhand knots are probably fine for this purpose, but opposing double-overhand aka double-fisherman's knots will have higher strength and security and never loosen over time. That's what's typically used to make a loop of rope for climbing gear.

Add some amsteel daisy chains and that’s one slick method! I’m using something similar, 4-Wild edge steps and a 5 step aider then rappel down and it’s slick.

My big tall clumsy self may struggle to do that in the dark. Right now I use 4 Helium Hawk sticks and one piece of rope. I can get to 18-22 feet pretty easily.

You're actually wrong. This method was filmed in temps close to 90 and I didn't break a sweat. You really do not exert much energy. I'll be doing more videos on it.

New subscriber here, been following for a few months. This season my son and are going mobile, I picked up an XOP Evolution stand and 4 of their climbing sticks. After putting it altogether on a lock-n-walk carry harness I was like "This ain't feelin too mobile..." LOL! Love your idea with the climbing aid - it would be important for people to know that your pvc is an all-weather, outdoor pvc, resistant to sunlight, getting brittle, etc. Thanks for the content and the rate at which you post - God bless you.

Too many loose parts for my liking. I’d end up dropping a key piece out of my pocket and have to come down and start all over or leave a key piece in my truck. I’ve used ladders, and different climbers. So far my favorite is the lone wolf assasin. Lightweight and absolutely quiet going up and down the tree. Easy to use and comfortable if you set it up right. This in conjunction with a harness and 30’ prussic knot safety rope is my go to set up. It’s so light I hook a small pack to it and I can drag a deer with my gear on and not have to leave my weapon or gear in the woods or have to call a buddy to help. I like your innovative idea but too many parts to drop while half way up the tree.

If you wanna run a light tree stand set up get the millinium M7 ultralight. It weighs 8 lbs. That along with your current climbing stick will get you set up at like 16lbs. I run 1 or I run a saddle. Both are great.

Ehh step will do a 90 degree turn and you are done. Step needs 2 standouts just like a traditional climbing stick. Be careful
