I think a good CV counter is for every airstrike you are targeted with, your AA gets a good buff. The more times the CV bullies you the better your gunners are since they have gained experience.
I recently worked through that line. It took a while to figure out the playstyle, given that the gunpower's been eclipsed by so many other nations since its launch. But balancing out-spotting with out-gunning with out-ranging-and-kiting pays off dividends if you're hot on knowing what you're up against. Had some great games in Udaloi. I went Concealment Expert on Groz, though. It's got workable concealment, which helps with cap contesting; and if you're kiting at max range and managing concealment then you can be very stingy with the smokes and use the torps to slap BBs instead of slowly trying to farm them down with fires.
I have concealment and range with great results, but my clan mates absolutely shit on me every time because they say i should have taken RPF instead of range skill and every time we loose a game it's my fault because RPF DD hunting is the way or sth.
@@anidiot2818 Killing the DDs is a game-winner in general, and if you're not managing to deal with the enemy DDs before they abuse team-mates, then maybe rethinking your approach is a good idea. However, RPF becomes redundant in a number of scenarios: If you've got a CV spotting for you; if you've got a team-mate (say a Mino, or a torpedo DD) with RPF on; if you can read the enemy well enough to hunt them without relying on RPF, etc, etc. Grozovoi's got the gunpower to bully a lot of enemy DDs, but that line is uniquely CO-skill starved in general, and can face better DD bullys (RN / French DDs being obvious examples) that will outshine it even if you're not wasting skill points on a redundant RPF. Sounds like you need to check the replays, maybe upload them, and look exclusively at instances where the enemy DDs were stealth-torping or perma-spotting your team-mates and figure out if - in those specific scenarios - RPF could've prevented that. Because RPF is (kinda) pointless vs smoke / long-range farming DDs (whose constant rain of HE and big white puffs will telegraph their position anyway); and is pointless if a DD's position is known anyway thanks to radar - or seeing where ineffectual long-range torpedo spam originates from, etc. On the other hand, the +range skill is worthless in any circumstance where you're shooting at something that's inside your regular gun range; so it's also worth checking out how often you're needed too close to the action to make good use of it. Grozovoi's somewhat versatile, and it absolutely can brawl and wreck stealthy torpedo oriented DDs - but if your team's inability to counter torpedo boats is what's costing them games, then I don't think putting RPF on the Groz is the optimum way of fixing that problem.
Since we the people have no say about CVs in the game, in my opinion a CV players prime duty is to spot and kill DDs till they are dead. this is the most useful thing they can do for the team. next is to spot any caps being taken, after that they are free to go get some damage for themselves and drop fighters to spot enemy ships hiding behind islands. the worst thing a friendly CV player can do is just go after big slow ships while the enemy DD's drive into the back area and start torping the BBs to death.
I love Grozovoi. I have the Unqiue mod and it’s a blast. The only problem I have is I get a little too aggressive in it and usually bite off more then I can chew.
It's a generalist and how the game is played/structured today, is that you need to min-max. Which is why Groz isn't super popular: it doesn't excel in any category.
10:00 I propose an AA readiness buff each time the planes come your crew becomes more and more ready to prevent them so if they focus 1 person they become less and less effective at it and loose planes faster as a consequence and this buff on top of ships that already have capable aa or dfaa would make their aa relevant again while letting carriers keep there plane 3d printers in their hangers and force them away from damage and towards spotting as the game goes on
I'm really glad it's not just me who has a shit attitude about the inane inclusion of CVs in this game, especially in Ranked Battles with the ship count is cut in half. If you're in a DD, you're just dodging torps and rockets the entire match.
I like the way Malta plays the Groz. I still like the Neutra and Groz, but they're not as good as they used to be because creep. The speed is still a great asset.
I love running a hybrid build on my Groz; concealment, AFT, torpedo reload, AR. Building her this way, she's like Swiss army knife for DDs. Knife fighting, open water farming, firing from smoke, AA screening... even the torps are usable compared to the main RU DD line.
Groz is the best DD to annoy CVs. Get them to focus you and burn their planes, while allowing your allies to be unimpeded and your CV focusing real threats.

Grozovoi did NOT have a heal when it came out but it had excellent AA and the best DD guns at that time. However it was not popular due to the horrible handling. In their infinite wisdom, WG made the ship into a heal/smoke hybrid instead of giving it proper agility and handling. The Grozovoi never gained popularity and after CV rework lost even the last good feature it had ...
Grozovoi is excellent DD bully IF you keep your range. At 10 km, it will shred almost anyone, due to superior ballistics. Well apart from maybe Khaba and other soviet buds.
I love this ship. My favorite DD atm. I personally don't think I could use this ship without the 6.0 concel you get with concel expert. It doesn't have the firepower of a French DD so I feel like I'd leave myself out as an easy target. I mostly just spot and DD hunt with it while providing smoke for cruisers on my team. I have the best winrate with this ship compared to my others by far.
its amazing ship ... just dont drop concealment expert for useless skills like 10% fire rate when you are spotted on ship that can smoke itself up and shoot when situation calls for it. Or shoot over islands unspotted. Also PQ builds insanel gimps your stealth torpedo capabilites and makes your capping less likely. You play smart to use CE - glad not everyone sucking up because someone made video with wrong build for right ship.
Question for u. Daring has great ap angles. But doesn't it have below average ap penetration. I'm asking cuase I just got daring and the ap is great on dds but it shatters on most cruisers even mino at close range

Grozovoi is a boat that I really want to like, but just can't. It runs around a whole lot but doesn't actually get much done at the end of the day. It's just not that effectual at what it needs to do. Even when you get a high damage count, it's usually BB farm damage spread out over the whole match and it mostly gets healed away. And after that, what else do you have? It doesn't contest caps very well, it doesn't torp boat all that well, and it doesn't gunboat as well as a lot of other DDs.
@@Nabsolute_ Yeah, it's not horrible. It just isn't very good compared to a lot of other DDs. It's a hybrid that doesn't excel at much, and quite honestly probably isn't even as good as other hybrids. 6.1 concealment is just ok. Good enough maybe to push caps even though you'll be out-spotted by most other contesters. The 10km torps are what I'd consider to be barely good enough too. At tier 10, 10km isn't great. You just run into so many spotting issues at that tier, that getting close enough to make use of a 10km torp can be very challenging unless the enemy is pushing hard or lacking radar and hydro and planes. Or if they're oblivious. I do totally agree about the AP. That Russian DD AP is *very* good given the right circumstances. I think, for me, the main problem is that the boat is too situational, too narrow. In a good match, it can be workable. But those don't happen as nearly often as they do in other DDs.
@@bttmlesspit25 Which CV can do more than 2 passes on something with decent AA? FDR, Haku, maybe Shokaku...? Most CVs only carry 3-4 attack wings at once, and they lose some planes in the process.
@@landochabod7 all of them. I think the problem is you assume consecutive pass means with the same set of planes. That however is a very narrow thinking. Consecutive means with no other target between.

How do you know the Lepanto does not have fire prevention? I hear a lot of streamers saying that, but what information is there, that you would know that?
I feel like in the first one you were a little too passive focusing too much on farming Damage. Yes the carrier was an annoyance, but you could have gone ahead and be aggressive on some of those DDs
I like the boat but it sits in the middle ground for everything. It's been power creeped by everything and a best in class at nothing. AA is OK, better than some but not the best, concealment is OK, guns are nice but not the best a Kita will hammer you if you get spotted to close. The heals are nice but you don't get many and other DDs get more or better heals. The torp reload isn't good. Gun range is good, rof good. It's the middle ground dd, you can do well in it but it's harder to carry in it than many other DDs.
1) the ballistics are pretty much the best of any DD 2) the heal is better than the Daring's and the Druid's: among DDs, only the Neustrashimy has a better one, the EU ones are about the same 3) the consumable setup is very strong
@@Zarroc0215 and that upgrade is taking place of the rudder mod which is critical to have to dodge any shell. I was forced to stop using the mod and use double rudder mods to dodge any shell which brings me to 13 something km.
its got a butt load of consumables, the AA Def won't make it what use to be, I usually take it when I wanna play daring but I need a speedboost, though I hear there is a daring clone that has a speedboost now

I absolutely report CVs every time, I'm petty like that lol. Besides, they're CV players, I'm sure they're pretty awful people IRL as well. Surely they did something to deserve it!
CV's always were a cáncer to this game, that's the true, and that was one of the main reasons I quite the game five years ago, if those kind of players want to play CV's or planes, they have World of Warplanes, Warthunder o DCS World in which they actually can be on a carrier, this is supposed to be a surface warship game, in where air spotting and air focusing without any counterplay available should not completely ruin good strategy or tactic planning, good positioning playing o just don't ruin the game of an individual player, which is a waste of 20 mins of their time.
After about 7 minutes I am already angry at the cvs in the game... holy shit... You spent a few captain points in AA, used defensive AA + plus the useless sector, engaged a low tier cv at maximum ranged and that sucker was even able to get a second run off and spotted you therefore the whole time. His long time damage from this ludicrous attack is: 0. When a Des Moines thinks it should show broadside to any BB it gets annihilated to port about 15 seconds later but a cv can do shit and is protected by WG like Arya Stark by the Game of Thrones producers... Make the carrier lose HP when they have to "regen planes" and remove the plane spotting for others (make spotting that like in cyclone) edit: my anger somehow doesn't get better during the match :D

The CV player did a great job for his team....he focused you....probably the best player on your team. By neutralizing you, he helped his team immensely. A good CV player is supposed to focus DDs. DDs do a lot for their team. You have said this yourself. Win the DD war decisively...and you will usually win the game. If you learned how to play CV ....you would find them less frustrating. But instead players like you and Flamu whine about what they don't understand. please stop it

Getting "focused" by a 46% Shokaku should be a blessing for a Grozovoi. 23 planes shot down, none of them being fighters, for just 1 freak torpedo hit (6:23), is an excellent trade. And THAT caused you to smoke up in the middle of nowhere, to just farm some BB half a map away? The point of taking AFT instead of CE is to tank potential damage for the team, but you gave that up to...protect yourself from some AP dive bombers? It's not like it was a Midway or anything... The team might've collapsed anyway, but you just misplayed. Yet you blamed them. And to downvote the CV is just petty: he couldn't have been the reason you were ineffective AND "not a great help to his team" at the same time. Come on man, you're better than that.
Being focused by a carrier is extremely annoying, even if it isn't really that dangerous for you or your team. I personally understand his frustration and honestly the fact that the carrier didn't really affect his performance is just luck that he wasn't in another dd more susceptible to them than him being able to do much about it. Like, carriers are hated by pretty much everybody because they just feel inevitable (as meme as that word is now lol) they WILL have at least one strike on you, ((and if your ship has bad AA good luck then)) and that's just free damage for them aside from the unvaluable spotting they offer to theyr team. Like, when a CV is in a battle the whole gameplay changes just so you survive more against them. No sneaky flanks, surprise attacks, pushes, any of that. Just stay un a blob of ships so you don't get picked off early. And I could go on and on and on about how they ruin the game experience. So, about the point, was that particular situation that bad? Maybe not? Was nontheless frustrating and oppressive? For sure. And the guy being called "lord_of_frustation" doesnt help either for his defense lol PD: Are you surprised I had enough free time/bored to write all this to a random on the internet about something that isnt really about me?? @@grifos7962 Hardly any DD is susceptible to the Shokaku, after the rocket planes nerf. AP bombs always overpen and the torpedo at 6:23 was a freak accident. And what was the spotting going to do? PQ overreacted, retreating from B to the point where no enemy could really shoot at him. If the Shima had tried to pursue him, using the CV's spotting, he would've sailed into a trap due to the Grozo's superior ballistics. A T10 DD with Def AA and a heal should welcome the Shokaku's attention, in fact it should seek it, to deflect it from its own teammates. As for sneaky flank attacks, CVs don't really prevent them if they don't search there: RPF does.
“i hate when a cv focuses you , theres no counterplay….. with radar boats i just spot them from outside their radar range so my team can shoot them, and there’s nothing they can do about it” the tricky part of this game is annoying mechanics. if you removed all the annoying ships it would have to just be one class battles.
How is it a good example? The CV lost 23 strike planes to land ONE lucky torpedo. Big deal. It'd be like having a 180k dmg game in a cruiser and then giving up on playing them because you also took a citadel from a weird angle.
There is plenty of counterplay against carriers it's just that a lot of players, like this Potato Quality guy, don't want to adjust their gameplay accordingly. He complains in this game yet he's out all by himself, playing as if there is no carrier in the game at all. The counterplay against carriers is long-term plane bleed which ends up leaving the team with lesser situational awareness/stacked AA with a carrier on the other team that still has effective flights at the end of the game while the lesser team is left calling their carrier player a "noob" because he's left with flights of one or two planes. And NOOOOO the best carrier player in the world can't dodge his way through stacked AA or correctly played ships that force the attack runs to cross over islands or chase. I play while I watch TV and even then I have never had a situation where I couldn't deal with a carrier regardless of tier spread unless it was the result of a mistake on my part.

I'll make the example, if you play dd and don't use survivability expert then you got torp or lose gunfight or something then you blame that your ship's suck. The game have the choice to get the advantage but you don't. It shows how's you think to everything in the game. It's related to everything camouflage, upgrades, modules, and captain skills.
For me its "the full story". All my reports goes to the 11 CV players I meet every day I play the game. Its a broken class that destroys the fun for all the rest. This game could be amazing without CVs but people like to play a "God class" that can sit in a corner all game and just shit on everything ..... well fine ... you got my report. Its not much but its the only thing you as a player can do. And usually, CV mains go on the forums afterward and whine because they get reported .... so a bit fun.... Also a good reason to grind Halland. Amazing Swedish ship that says FUCK YOUUUU to all CV players. Come on, the 1st replay had a potato Shokaku lose 23 strike planes against PQ for 1 freak torpedo hit. That CV didn't shit on anyone: PQ got scared away from the caps (B or A, where he planned to go to help the German DD), smoked up in the middle of nowhere to farm some Lepanto, and then complained the team was dying around him. All for 1 torp, which he mostly healed right away. It's not like it was a Midway harassing him in front of 3-4 enemies... This isn't about CVs being "God class". It's about how even superunicums can be prey to mass hysteria. PQ should've kept moving, kept shooting, and kept shooting down planes.
@@landochabod7 Were talking CVs in general not this specific CV in just this one game, and even a newb can understand its a God class, why because you dont have to take any risks ever and you can strike against any target on the map from any direction. In any other game one would call that "God mode", "Wallhack" or "Aimbot", but in this game its just the "CV class". This specific CV deserved a report for being utter crap, which lets face it is most CV players, its why they play that class.
@@oldschoolgaming4763 For a "god mode" the damage output seems to be nothing special. Other than the occasional detonation, CVs almost never Dev Strike enemies, while BBs and DDs do that routinely. It's not more of a wallhack than radar or AP overmatch. Or HE & fires. And to be safe a CV has to stay away from the battle, but that cuts down her DPM accordingly. Just because a CV can do damage from the map corner it doesn't mean that hiding there is a good strategy: a Yamato or a range mod Thunderer can snipe safely from the map corner, but it won't win games, either. Plus the whole intention of PQ's first match was to "farm", i.e. do massive damage to BBs from near max range, possibly from inside a smoke, with next to no counterplay. It sounds hypocritical to complain about CVs then, tbh. He could've easily contested the Shima had he taken CE and maybe RPF, but he went with the farming build, got pushed away, didn't even tank much against the Lepanto (too afraid of pretty much the most innocuous CV he could've been facing), then he farmed some meaningless damage from his smoke. When he finally tried to do DD things, facing the Shima and the Buffalo, it was already garbage time. And to downvote the CV for being "useless" when it was the CV that, absurdly, drove his superunicum self away, was just petty.

And if you wonder what damage you can do you can just search RU-vid for videos or actually listen to any of the Super Unicum players that has some idea about this game. Ive seen Flambass, who doesnt even play CVs have a 250 K game while talking to his GF and eating a sandwish. Thats a lot of skill involved! All the rest of the classes can dev strike, that is right but all of them have to actually take risks to do it, AND have to position their ship! Yamaots and Thunderers can get sniped from across the map from other BBs as well. So your point falls short. There is a lot of counterplay to DDs sitting farming in smokes, if you dont know that then I dont know how much you even played this game. You can even get blind shot in smokes, or rushed, or torped, or radared or hydroed! I even seen Trenlass (no CV main either) kill DDS in smoke w new russian cvs. So....... Not so hypocritical. Its hard to contest a Shima when he has several 100 meters detect on you. All he has to do is kite and keep you spotted while his cruisers blapp you. so he played that right. Shima also has nasty HE and torps... Doesnt matter if he spent all match focusing PQ. He didnt know he was Superunicum and while he did that he didnt spot the flanks for his team and he didnt strike the BBs and cruisers where he could have actually made a difference. So well deserved report for playing poorly. I had a CV focusing me in a Halland all game as well, Got about 58 Planekills and he did about 1000 damage to me which i healed back. Not really stellar target selection from many CV players, but that is what you get when you dont want to learn something about the game.
