In the late 1800s, construction began on a new railroad. It was a great idea - except for the ancient mountains standing in their way. This is the story of the Iron Range & Huron Bay Railroad in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. And it's one wild ride.

Key research sources I used to learn about the Iron Range and Huron Bay Railroad, the Huron Mountains, typhoid, the Canadian shield, and more:

Corrections:
4:36 - At minimum! The rocks that make up the mountains often date back much farther than 1 billion years.
04:59 - To be more precise, the Canadian shield is /part/ of the nucleus of North America.
