Pieces of the Past - Jim Koski Video Stories
"These are short video stories of Marquette. Some of the tales are famous, some are not, but all of them are interesting, at least to me.
Many of the pictures and materials come from the History Center's John M. Longyear Research Library. A few are my own. And others come from the amazing collection of Jack Deo & Superior View Studios, who's graciously allowed us to use them.

I work for JM Longyear and when I learned the intricacies of what he had to do to survey the land up here before any of it was inhabited it blew my mind! He was a wealthy man but he worked his butt off for every penny! I’m proud to work for his legacy company! Every single day I walk into that building I have a moment of gratitude. The original MASSIVE painting of this kids all posed together (shown in this video) hangs in the executive conference room in the building. It goes from floor to ceiling practically! It’s gorgeous!

The house had only 64 rooms when it was in Marquette, but they "needed more room" so it ended up with about 36 additional rooms in Brookline, MA! I toured the mansion when it was the CS museum. I could take in the architecture (have no interest in CS history, beliefs, or propaganda), but all the furnishings were gone. The interior had a lighter touch than the heavy Richardsonian Romanesque exterior. It's now condos and surrounded by new buildings.

I had to tell a mother her son died. It was horrible. My own mom. Her other son. Just the worst.

I had to inform a friend's mother that her son had died of a heart attack. I will say that she could handle it better than she did with her other son's death (suicide).
