I hate to say this as an American, who has aways admired your NHS and wished we had similar, but this is a real indictment of your NHS, and it is well deserved in your case. I am SO sorry this has set you back so badly, both personally and financially. Warm hugs to you, wishing you the very best. ❤

Sending you much love hugs compassion understanding Colin. Your GP and surgeon are frankly a disgrace to their "so called caring profession" . This is blatant criminal neglect of patients and warrants a probe into whether both of them should be struck off by the British Medical Council / Association. This neglect flies in the face of the hypocratic oath they swore at medical school each and every single year of their medical school degree. That oath promises that they will uphold the highest standards of integrity and honesty. You might be able to claim for medical negligence in the courts.

I can not TELL you enough how proud I am of you. Thank you thank you for taking your health into your own hands. I'm a retired nurse. I never go to doctors anymore because they couldn't help or fix my RSD/CRPS. They only wanted to hand over drugs with thousands of side effects. Treatments that caused more suffering. My illness is called the suicide disease. Over 30 people kill themselves daily who have this illness. Many many people don't even find out they have RSD until they are ready to pull the plug on their life. RSD can be external and internal. Most doctors will tell patients that the illness won't spread. But people are cutting off their limbs to try to get free from this kind of suffering.

Thanks for sharing. A similar thing happened to our youngest daughter. After 4 and 1/2 years of going to doctors saying she did not feel good or was having lots of pain, she was told it was just her age and menopause. Then, in March, her husband rushed her to ER her in Newberg, Oregon. They did a CT scan and learned she had cancer all over her body. She is now fighting for her life, and as parents, we are infuriated with all the doctors she saw. So we pray you can get the right treatment soon! We love your show and aren't going anywhere. We really appreciate you both. Thank you both for all you do! Your faithful followers, Linda and Craig ❤

I'm a retired truck driver now 77. Years ago I complained to the doctor of pain and they couldn't help me. Then weeks later I was 500 miles from home on a run and the pain was so bad I pulled to the side of the interstate highway and was laying in the dry dirt by the truck in the dark thinking I was dying. I was able to continue and days later I started peeing out blood. They said "oh, you have a kidney stone!" It was big and didn't move. They used lithotripsy and pulveried it. Then they put in a stint to help the pieces come out and I peed into a screen for a week. But the stint makes you feel like you have to pee all the time. We are brothers in truth. At least nobody lied to me. I hope things will go better for you now.

I can't believe how similar our lives have been the past two years! I am 52 like you, and when I was 50 I developed a rare autoimmune condition (an exclusive club I would really prefer NOT to be a part of) caused by taking Statins. The previous year when I was put on them I should have had a review at 3 months and then annually. That didn't happen (despite my asking GP) and as a result they didn't catch my new condition until I could no longer stand or walk even with assistance. Three months hospital got me walking again but it is a lifelong condition and I will never be able to do what I used to do. I get dressed sitting down, I can't climb stairs, the slightest incline feels like a mountain. I am still battling for treatments and have lost faith and trust in the NHS. I stand with you Colin, and I have a glimmer of positivity on Monday as I am going for a driving assessment to see if I can get my car adapted so I can get out!! Not driven since October 2022 so a really big deal for me 😁🥰🥰

Thank you for saying this. The concept of the NHS is a wonderful thing, the reality not always. There are some absolute legends in the NHS, and there are some absolute bell ends. You should report those people who have done you a disservice, or there is no accountability (still no guarantees, because as scandal after scandal shows, they don't want to acknowledge the failings for fear of reputational damage. I do hope that your chosen path provides some relief. I had some serious kidney pain a few months ago, nothing detected including an MRI, and its resolved itself (the painkillers only created their own problems). The fact you pursued getting your own ct scan that proves everything, that GP and the consultant need to be reported. To hopefully get them retrained in the very basics of listening to their patients and doing the correct investigations without prejudice. I’m so sorry you’re having to go thru this, I really hope that your new medical team can finally help you needed so you can recovery fully 🤗 and the NHS L ICB can reprimand this GP and consultant so that other patients don’t have to go thru this too Sending my very best wishes 🤗

I live in Canada, hip replacements were not recommended or done most often before a person was 60. At 58 it was apparent that I needed the surgery sooner than later. I had always tried to be active when the pain wasn't too bad, but over the 37 years that I suffered intermittent days or weeks of incapacity I lost a lot of muscle. Fast forward to recovery - estimated to be 6 weeks, 3rd week I walked 3.5 k. 6th week I walked 6 k, began a swimming program, and regained an active life again. My wish for you is to have the same success. Once the pain is gone, it is pretty amazing what you can accomplish. Big hugs, and hope that you have a successful surgery.

This is just heartbreaking and exactly why I will do everything possible to keep the USA from any kind of socialized medicine. I have so many UK friends and have NEVER heard anything positive about the health system there. It is also the reason we have such an influx of Canadian people in our clinics here. You have every reason to lose trust in your GP, the urologist, and your NH group. I've had a kidney stone (nothing like yours for sure) but suffered horrible pain. What really burns my behind is the fact - they used your admitted mental issues to cover their ineptitude. To me - there is no greater evil. God bless you. I just know I have missed you both so much and cannot wait to have you both back to your "abby-normal" selves. Much Love, Becky W.

The interesting thing is that private medical treatment in the UK is cheaper than the US. And it's because the NHS exists. And all medical systems have iflaws and less than adequate health professionals.

That’s a very sad and ill-informed generalisation. Our NHS is a very special, cherished establishment and you’d be lucky to have what we have. Shaun has had nothing but excellent care, as have tens of millions of others. I just got unlucky. It happens in private, insured medicine too. x

As a healthcare professional I feel I need to advise, if you haven’t already, request to read the surgeon’s operation notes from the original procedure, both when you had the stent inserted and when he supposedly removed the stone with the laser. Also you should request to read the theatre care plan which should confirm the procedure. These notes are completed for every procedure. You have the right to access this information. Sometimes equipment does break down and become unserviceable and procedures are cancelled, it is also possible that another surgeon already has priority for the equipment but as you say, they should have advised you before. He was obviously concerned enough that you should have a stent to prevent damage to your kidney, this is often done and then the patient is brought back for the removal once all has settled down. Sadly stones do reoccur. We are very lucky to have the NHS, but just like private health care, things are not always straightforward. I wish you well and hope you will keep us updated. Speaking from personal experience, kidney stones can be the most painful condition possible.

Colin! First hugs to Sean who is watching his love go through this. ANYWAY, you are NOT ALONE. Many years ago, I had some scary symptoms; was going to my PC every 3 months for diabetes and told her. Note that she was so fantastic as PC to Bri and me for years that when our dog passed, she got the board of a rescue she was on to find us another German Shorthaired Pointer. But, changes in her life that we didn't know about were occurring affecting her life. Anyway, one visit, two visits, two years go by. "Nothing wrong!" Then when Dr. was out, her assistant did my appointment; I told her and showed her my problem--she said some nasty and degrading, disgusting, awful comments. Me being raised to respect those in control, finally figured out that I needed to leave. I walked out of the appointment, went back to work. Called another doctor. When she heard my symptoms, she said come first thing tomorrow morning. You may have to wait, but come. When she was doing the exam, she asked if I could go with her ideas and not ask questions yet. Yes! They set me up for some tests, went the NEXT MORNING. That night, she called--If you were my sister, this is what I would do, I have scheduled you with the top surgeon on the East Coast (writing from USA, CT) in NY he has a 6 week wait, but will see you in 4 days and warned that his surgical wait was also six weeks. He did the exam, called that night to tell me my diagnosis was late stage "lady cancer" and scheduled me in three days for the surgery, knowing that he would fit me in his schedule. A 90 minute surgery went to 5 hours, my chances were very slim and I had to sign a form saying that I had been informed I may not make it (his medical group did not want him to do the surgery). I did have advanced, late stage cancer; they removed all my 'lady parts' and 16 lymph nodes. When we went for the post op visit, the surgeon asked Bri, "How long was she going to wait before telling someone?" Bri asked him why. The doctor said, "She had about 8 weeks...." Colin, trust yourself, you are not alone, Bri is going through a similar thing now, so we were talking back to the video at you. I have to share one last thing. When I went back to the surgeon for the pre-surgery visit, I went into his office and the ladies behind the desk had music blasting; Taylor Swift's "Fight Song". They apologized (no music when patients are in the office) and I said NO! Turn it up LOUD. And we all sang the song together. It set the tone for everything I went through. So, along with your needs to get your life back, "this is YOUR fight song, take BACK YOUR LIFE song! We are with you.

Totally agree that the service provided by the NHS has deteriorated. It feels like people are constantly being ignored and symptoms diminished. My husband almost died due to doctors trying to tell him that his appendicitis was IBS. He was on the cusp of Sepsis yet still had to beg (yes, beg!) the surgeon to do a laparoscopy. Afterwards the surgeon commented that it was a good job he'd taken it out because it was nasty. 🤦‍♂️ I don't blame you for paying for a private consultation and I really hope that you get back to full health soon.
