Kino probably knew from the start that even if the prison break was a success, he wouldn't make it because he couldn't swim. On a rewatch you can pick up that his voice breaks a little when he says "if we can fight half as hard as we work". Serkis is phenomenal

I'm glad I'm not the only one who teared up at Luthen's response. "Calm, kindness, kinship...Love, I've given up all chance of inner peace, I've made my mind a sunless space...I share my dreams with ghost. I wake up everyday to an equation I wrote 15 years ago for which there is only one conclusion: I'm damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my eagerness to fight. Has set me on a path for which there is no escape, I yearn to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost but by the time I look down... there's no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future! I burn my life! To make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. The ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude..what do I sacrifice? EVERYTHING!"
@TheGamefreak612
@TheGamefreak612 Год назад
This episode alone had so many great one liners. "Power doesn't panic" "a drop of discomfort may be the price of business" "I burn my life for a sunrise I will not see" we are essentially getting a HBO level show set in the Star Wars universe and I am loving it. This is the type of Star Wars content I want more of. I want to see the wordplay in negotiations, feel the tension rising in scenes where people are just talking.

There are few "modern" movie scenes that are included in college courses or film education programs and synopsis for new film and actor students. One is the scene with Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper from True Romance. The second, I truly believe, will be Stellan Skarsgard's monologue at the end of Episode 10 of Andor. That has been my most re-watched scene on Andor so far. The acting, writing, dialogue, and inference of what Luthen is saying to both the Andor series and the entire Star Wars series as a whole is so very Chef's Kiss writing that it does draw a tear from me. Hyperbole is lazy analysis. But beyond "No, I'm your father" this is probably the best written Star Wars dialogue content since 1980!!

Turns out House of Cards writer Beau Willamon is a writer for Andor. It's not surprising that this is arguably the best and most realistic depiction of Star Wars politics, with the good, bad, and morally gray. Honestly, the banality of evil as portrayed in this show- no magic users and no cut out bad guys- is one of the things that is most horrifying and realistic. Love your reactions 🥰. Keno could not effectively swim the distance required to get to land (neither could I) even with help from two others that would probably drown themselves trying to help him too, and I'd rather get shot than be drowned any day. I don't know about THE best, because that is such a highly contested field even among the new starting series. But it is definately up there with my other two favorite premiere seasons of the year, Severance and House of the Dragon. We are so spoiled with that many great shows and now we even get a Star Wars show that is great drama beyond the bounds of its own franchise, with a kind of depth and realness to the characters that we haven't seen before, writing so crisp and sharp that it allows great actors to deliver moments that make you shiver. Let's at least agree on this trophy: Andor is the biggest surprise of the year, because after the two struggle busses that were Boba Fett and Kenobi I think nobody expected something that amazing.

I loved the episode, the best one so far, Andor has changed a lot, and he no longer hesitates to shoot an enemy on the ground, a huge change from the first episode, although he still doesn't kill in cold blood except if absolutely necessary. The prison escape is also the first operation that Andor creates and directs instead of being a member of the group. In addition, the empire creates an army of enemies in that prison, gives them order, structure, uniforms, teaches them to march and obey and act as a unit instead of individuals, leaders, hierarchy, discipline and most important of all, a reason to the rebellion The moment someone sees through the lie the entire imperial system falls apart. The more they oppress the more and more enemies they create, until they cannot subdue them all, it is a vicious circle that the Empire itself creates and from which it is unable to escape. It is also the episode of the great speeches, where both Kino and Luthen shine in their scenes. Both excellent characters and they can both go very far, but they will never reach the end of the path, they can only help others to make that path.

Loved to see my own reaction mirrored on both of your faces. If the final episodes stick the landing this will be the best thing Star Wars since 1983 that wasn't written by Timothy Zahn. I do think however there's plenty set up for the last two episodes. Considering how huge the fallout for Aldhani was, there's no way a prison break of 5,000 people doesn't make the news and I would expect both Luthen and Dedra to recognize a certain Keef on the public broadcast. Even if they don't I'm sure Cereal will and then he'll use this information to throw himself at Dedra's feet. And since we just established Baby Hux everything seems set for the royal rumble on Ferrix.

@raymondhodgson1190 Год назад
Some of that Luthen monologue was pulled directly from the French Resistance in WW2. If you want a wild true spy story, go read "A Woman of No Importance" by Sonia Purnell. And so many other plot lines remind me of the story of the early resistance. I think it's intentional and I really appreciate the parallels.

The plan with the water was BRILLIANTLY set up. Back when they zapped that entire floor, our heroes took note of the fact that it strained the power to the facility. If 100 men being zapped all at once puts such a load on the system that the power nearly goes out, what might happen if you substitute 100 men for another conductive substance, and a whole lot more of it?

This episode was beyond incredible!! When Kino said he can’t swim I was gutted & tears flowed down my face 😭 Hopefully some of his friends held hands with him & jumped together simultaneously; one on each side holding one of his hands Once they land inside the ocean they can all start kicking their legs & with their outer hands start swimming, then with their hand holding one of Kino’s hands they just start moving it so he sees how it’s done & they instruct him to start kicking his legs repeatedly like them…if only 😅🙏🏽 Or more basic; since it was about 5,000 of them running to jump maybe a bunch will push him over like Cassian was & once Kino’s in the water, hopefully someone near him sees him beginning to drown & helps him 🙏🏽

The sad thing is, realistically, most of them drowned. If you look at the wide shot, land is nowhere nearby. It looks several miles away, at least. Even if the water was warm and didn't instantly induce hypothermia, and even if the currents were mild and didn't work against you, that's a huge distance to cover for guys who've been kept on a sustenance diet and not really been given any cardio for months, or years. And this for those who are already strong swimmers. Still, for many, maybe that moment of freedom, the euphoria of having claimed it for themselves, was worth a death by drowning.

Clarus made a great point about how the actors and actresses in this look like normal people in it. I agree. Certainly there are varying degrees of attractiveness, but there isn't an effort to shiny everyone up. I appreciated that perspective and thought Clarus had every right to share it. So seeing it consistently dismissed and mocked with comparisons to Clarus's attractiveness was uncomfortable and frustrating. The inability to appreciate what she said was baffling, the persistent arguing unnecessary, and I guess you're saying because she's attractive she can't make that point? Wow. Regarding Andor 10 itself, this was an amazing episode and during the prison break I either had chills or tears. So many moving performances.

@Nerdy Nightly, 18:26 Yeah, I don't know how the finale tops this story. Rogue was such a great film, who would have thought that a series based on that movie would top that?! Every episode of this series is better than the one before it, so I suppose I shouldn't doubt the series creators the ability to deliver. They are 10 for 10 solid stories. This series is so good that I'm worried for what follows it. I'm worried for Mandalorian season 3 and Ahsoka, lol. I'm sure I'll like them, but I doubt they'll be as good as this and I want them to be. If Disney knew what was good for them, they'd let this team of writers make the next trilogy! They need to keep their casting director too! Every actor in this series famous and not, has brought their A game! I never seen a TV show when everything and everyone was just working! Did I set my expectations too low for this series, is that why I'm swooning so hard for it? PS: if you ever make merch for your channel, I think you go all in on the Circus/Serkis. Own it!

I don't really think of Andor as a Star Wars show. It can stand on its own as a great sci-fi series. I do think it is helped by being in Star Wars though, cause I think that it helps grounding it. That is weird to say cause it is generally a more grounded show than Star Wars is in general, but I think it is true. My impression is that a lot of new IP sci-fi go off the rails in some way at some point, because it decides to try to blow the viewers mind and that goes wrong. Wrong is maybe too strong a word actually, cause it is usually still entertaining, but most shows require more suspension of belief the longer they go, which I think is a shame. With this being part of Star Wars it has a lot of already established and well tested lore behind it, so it is surrounded by a lot of safe paths to expand it's story. Because of this I feel like I can trust that it will stay grounded, and that is a rare feeling. Other than that though, it feels like a mostly independent work.

I think you underestimate the acting of Genevieve O'Reilly. She acts as politician losing the grip and power. Here security in the diplomatic "arts" crumbles. Yet again the show nailed the writing with the plot twist around the daughter. Lazy writing would have the daughter martyred for character motivation. Instead it shows there are higher costs which would be paid over lifetimes.

I think Clone Wars does a good job of high quality but also kid friendly

You asked if anyone has watched this but not Rise of Skywalker, still haven't finished the sequel trilogy. This episode and Episode 6 of Cyberpunk Edgerunners are the best episodes of TV I've seen this year. I'd have to give Dedrea the main actress nod she has killed the role. Clara I've lived in So Cal my whole life youre an easy LA 8/9,

I've been mulling over this a while, and I think the key is this... Almost all the Star Wars movies/tv shows have basically done an Indiana Jones style approach to Empire/Nazis. And this is the first time we're seeing, essentially, a depiction closer to real life. More like a gritty historical drama version.

I am so sorry it took a few days to get to this video. I completely love everything about your reactions and commentary. This is one of the best reactions I’ve ever seen. This episode was a complete masterpiece and it is filled with stellar performances.

LOL! I love that you confused "Serkis" with "circus". They are pronounced the same.

I'm watching Andor and never watched Rise of Skywalker. Heard what it was about and wasn't interested. This is way more up my alley and I loved Rogue One.

Hey Guys, u ok bro? it was an emotional ass episode, i dont blame u...it was epic, what a show, its just got better and better..(its weird by brother was the biggest Star Wars fan like urself Nerdy till Disney took over and now he wont watch any of it, i wish he would watch this as i know he wud luv it, such a shame, i blame the movies as they hit him hard)..by the way Clarus, u are so lucky ur not watching a show with a bunch of Irish actors cause are names can sound like a foreign language to Americans and Canadians....Anyway great reaction, u both really made it thrilling, Clarus luv the hair, realy suits u....Till the next episode, still sad about Andy Serkis character, maybe he will survive somehow, who knows👍🌝
@ijustwanttolikecomments4677
lol, i could see Nerdy want to tell chat to solve this disagreement a couple times...except no chat (i.e. same kind of tangent feel as book club, very fun!)
