I was just 16 when I had a misunderstanding with a neighbour, an older woman, in short it was a matter of self defense, I was taken to the station and asked to write a statement and I was left there overnight(which was against the law), but just because my “neighbour” was well known by them… We’ve all had our share, Nigeria needs to fix up, really 😢

I really love how this series highlights the problem points in the system. This should not be seen as an affront but rather a way to gauge areas that need intervention: police brutality, insecurity, poor governance etc. Hopefully, one day, the government will truly understand that the interests of its citizens are of paramount importance.

I lived in Idi Araba for 1 year, and I can attest to these layers of security and random gunshots….family was at akoka and it isn’t better there. Bariga was hot too. Japa isn’t just cos you’re not doing well, sometimes it’s just for peace of mind.

I remember in 1995 when I wrote my first JAMB, one of the comprehensions given to us, and the writer focused on this Japa syndrome. Then, in 1995, People were not really moving out of Nigeria, and the writer further emphasized that if everybody left the country, the people would carry out the task of social responsibilities, rehabilitation, and restriction of the country; the police are not good because you are not in the country, the government is bad because you are not in the country, the policy is not good because you are not there to give better policy, the country is bad because we all left the country. Organize an association that will be home-supportive and see how we can crush these people. We don't have two countries. We are people of value all over the world.

My experiences with the police because I’ve had several.lol.Nigeria my country. The one that stood out was when I was stopped from a bus coming from Ibadan to Lagos at Berger . I went for a job inspection because I work with an oil firm and I was sitting in front of the bus. I had two phones and was pressing one of them, I was putting on denim all through. Since passengers stopped at Berger , I was going to Maryland. The police saw me and said I should drop from the bus. The bus driver told me to get down cos he probably thought I was a fraudster after which he drove off. The police asked me to identify myself which I did . They were not convinced and they decided to take me to their station at ojota claiming they will run forensics on my phone and if I’m found guilty I would be arrested . They put me on a bike and I was sitting in the middle of two of them. When we got to the station, they went through my phones and they didn’t see anything . I had to call my boss who called the commissioner of police on my behalf. After all the calls the DPO came to me to apologize after all the embarrassing moment they put me through. When I was leaving the station they still asked me for money cos they found cash in my wallet . I was so pissed. The problem is once you’re young and doing good then you’re profiled already. Such a sad experience. The one of car nko. Too many stories

The only reason I didn't experience so much police brutality is because I don't go out much and I never stay out late but I have had my fair share of the police criminality.... If you can survive in Nigeria, you can survive anywhere in the world.
