Really solid piece, well seen and imagined. I particularly appreciate the interleaving of the overcranked shots, the timelapse, and full motion. For me, the best montages are a narrative driven by the interplay of peak moments. In your video there are no wasted shots, no filler, just moments of decision by the subject or movement in the frame that drives the next shot. It is seamless. I have found that it can be difficult to stick to a year-long project, so kudos for seeing it through to completion. Odd technical question, as it appears your cameras include a C300 MII and R-series (R6? R5?), what are you using for your timelapse? I have reverted to using an intervalometer on my 5DMII as I like the color, or one of my Sony cameras (6000 series or A7 series) because they are compact. I use that path because of the control, and I can then manage flicker with LRTimelapse. I’ve had mixed results with the newer Canon cameras, so I was curious because they look great. Again, nice job.
Thank you for the nice words. I try to keep it simple. Actually I have been filming and capturing time lapses for 13 years, so a lot of old stuff in this one. I have the R5, but most timelapses in this was shot with 5DII and 5DIII. I remember you could install a software called Magic Lantern to get a time-lapse function. Very nice cameras and I still have two 5DIIs, but unfortunately they where updated to the last version, so I can no longer use them for time lapse. Maybe I should get an intervalometer to revive them? The first time lapse @0:33 is from the R5!
@@einarangelsen Magic Lantern broke one of my bodies (probably operator error), so I have steered clear of it. Intervalometers are relatively inexpensive, I seem to break one about every two years. So it might be worth a try. It can be a bit of a hassle because you have this thing hanging off the side of your camera. In the wind it has the potential start moving back and forth, messing up the shot. But I have used one on the MIII for years. I think it falls in my comfort zone when I am standing someplace remote, freezing to death in the dark, waiting for time to pass. It just works. And there is something gratifying about creating media with a 10-year-old camera. Besides, I get to use the same glass I use on the C300. Again, good work. Best of luck.
This video depicts not only a year in Tromsø, but also the children, old people, and animals that live there. I felt this city come to life. Takk for den flotte videoen! Fra Japan i sommer.
I discovered and left my Heart In Tromsø in March 2022; unfortunately did not see the Northern Lights, but did see a Solar Halo. I will be back this Summer 2023 for three months. Thanks for sharing this heartwarming video.
