Norway is a unique country located on the fringes of Europe. Its climate and geographical position determined the lifestyle of the people inhabiting it. It was never an easy life. The constant scarcity of arable land, the vast distances they had to traverse due to the myriad of fjords and mountains, and the long and harsh winters in the inland areas made Norwegians constantly struggle for a better life.

The declaration of independence was not written when Norway and Sweden were in a union, it was written in just a few days during the transfer when Norway was legally independant. The swedes and british ignored the declaration and the transfer from Denmark to Sweden happend after a short war with only 2 battles where the norwegians and swedes won once each. The transwer also split Iceland and Greenland away from Norway even though Denmark had earlier signed that they were inseperable parts of Norway.

There are very few fertile places in Norway. Raiding and pillaging wasn't about impressing anyone. It was how one of Europe's least self-sufficient populations scraped through and now relies on international charity to survive.

My favorite saying that my grandparents taught me is "der himmel og hav møtast". More or less translates to "where heaven and sea meet" I have never known a country or people that love planet earth as much Norway. Mother Nature is arguably the single most important thing in existence to Norwegians.

@@liavyakov5731 Not all of it is directly wrong, but very strongly missleading. Not even half way yet, and i am struggling for the same reason. but one good example of missleading information is "encouraging conversion" to christianity. Christianity was used because it was a much easier religion to controll the people with, and the "encouraging" was to either be christian or not have a head.. In all honesty there are to many small mistakes and missleading ways of presenting things that it becomes a bit painfull when you know parts of the history. Also i am sorry for any big grammar mistakes.. English is not my first language.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🇳🇴 Norway, despite its modern wealth from oil, gained its independence relatively recently and has a deep history connected to Vikings and challenging geography. 02:48 ⚔️ The Norse Vikings, hailing from Norway, were renowned for their naval exploration and raids across Europe, which ultimately led to the unification of Norway under one king. 05:12 🤝 During the Middle Ages, Norway achieved stability through the cooperation of local leaders, the church, and a free peasant population, contributing to a golden age of peace and prosperity. 09:48 🇸🇪 Sweden's ambitions, along with Denmark's setbacks in European wars, played a role in Norway's path to independence, which was finalized in 1905, marking the beginning of modern Norway's development. 12:10 📈 Post-independence, Norway experienced economic growth, infrastructure development, and a renewed sense of national identity, breaking free from foreign oppression and embracing true independence. If you wanna learn Norwegian history or any country’s history for that matter, go to the actual source and not random videos on YT made by Americans with a robot voice. As a Norwegian this was somewhat cringe… not the worst, but still, could be better.

No such thing as Viking DNA. It’s was a cultural group/movement. Not a set people or nation. And viking was something you did, not who you were🫠 Unless you wanna claim raiding, pillaging, looting, rape and murder? If “Norse” blood you must be of Scandinavian decent, basically Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish. Besides Icelandic and Faroese.

Norway has always been one of the poorest nations in Europe. Even today. It's cursed by geography and is officially the world's least self-sufficient nation. All economies are based on food, our most valuable currency. Do the biology. Without international charity, Norway struggles to exist. Being cursed by oil hasn't helped in any meaningful way. Norway remains one of the poorest nations in Europe.
