Side note I still want ksp2 to embrace the almost total input customization ksp1 had. For instance I can no longer bind my wheels to the arrow keys. Which means I can not make the highly controllable mun rovers of ksp1 because the reaction wheel will no spin whenever I drive no matter what I do.

@BixbyConsequence

I include a small core facing upwards, and "control from here", with SAS on "radial out". That leaves me to concentrate on steering, while SAS damps out the effect of bumps and helps return to level, fly over craters, etc...

Thank you for sharing your particularly well informed perspective upon what happened and is happening so far. The KSP experienced among us knew what the label Early Access means your explanation regarding price was really on point. But specifically about me, I am a brain injury survivor with enough functionality to enjoy riding along with some Kerbals to Jool. @@eekee6034 1st Nice to meet you. Was riding my bicycle and got hit and run around 30 mph. Mangled my forearms, broke my face, and cracked my skull. Left me feeling very Kerbalated however the Spec Forces trained me how to face such disasters. With a laugh, occasionally a beer, and more laughs. KSP 1 gave me a host of laughs, not much beer. That being said, I like many who have visited here: High Hopes for more Kerbal entertainment but not just more calamity. We want more in depth, complicated, cascading disasters to happen. Then once we recover ourselves from laughing so hard, we'll try so more!!! In closing, we are shining examples of how phenomenal those of us who are often seen as disabled can be. Perhaps we can relish in our "differently" abled empowerment. (Yeah, I'm being a touch whimisical at the same time but meh...)

When they say "new and improved UI" and take away half of the features of KSP1's UI, make it harder to see, and becomes insanely cluttered very quickly, I'd like to take a look at their dictionary. While KSP2 may no longer be a hot mess, it's still a warm mess, and they have a long roadmap ahead. I do hope they can pull it together, because KSP1 gave me truly memorable gaming experiences.

I would have paid $80 and considered it fair if they had delivered the game they promised instead of a steaming pile of @#$&. The fact they released it without heating is pathetic, even for early access. I still predict it will never be completed. They'll say it is, but it will still be unrefined and missing promised features. I think the odds are high that multiplayer will be abandoned.

@@Dynomite42 But KSP 1 had all that in its "early access,” since it released in what we’d call a “pre-alpha” today. That’s his point. A modernized physics engine was essential. I certainly don’t knock the team for rewriting from the ground up since their goal is eventually to blow past the floating point limitations of the previous game. Who knows how far interstellar will eventually let us go (whether natively or through modded systems). The problem is that in doing so, the one completely unquestionable, unmitigatable, and uncompromisable point of the game-rockets have to behave rock solid and perform well in rendering-was… ignored. The rest of the game could have been completely empty at launch and even looked identical to the previous one as LONG as rockets performed as well (or better) under a modernized engine and people would have been happy. But they didn’t do that.

Personally, the over-promising at that price point for early access was too much. The game may end up being amazing at some point, but I now have little interest in playing. I might pick it up after a 1.0 release when it's on sale, but I'm certainly not $50 for an experience that is overshadowed by the original. On top of that, I have other games that I've paid less and gotten days worth of enjoyment from, so I can also wait for game-breaking, mission-ending bugs to get sorted.

Really you get a good idea of how people are now thinking of this game based on the steam reviews. (I don't know if epic games has a ksp2 version but if it does I would not trust the reviews just as I do not trust epic games to survive as a company for a single additional second) The total reviews are 56% (pretty high for a game with a rocky start) and the recent reviews are at 73% (a bit on the low side but still distinctly positive.)

the for science update was nice and all but i found the science part lacking... i wished they would have kept the thermometer, gravity, pressure and acceleration to be able to see i also would have liked they kept how the science lab worked as it would have given me a reason to make an orbital station instead of just sending a rocket with the part on it, the things i like is the fact i don't have to make four time the same experiment to have all the data of an area, also the missions are better and more straightforward as the tech-tree is also better.
@TlalocTemporal
@TlalocTemporal 7 месяцев назад
I think the basic science values would be reasonably covered by the Science Jr. and definitely by the atmosphere experiments. Showing us the numbers would be cool though, seeing the pressure rise endlessly while sinking into Eve was great, and magnetometer data would be cool. Sample processing is definitely a ting I'd like to see, but that seems like a job for colonies. Perhaps you'll be able to boost science gain with high-tech labs? More unique experiments would be nice though, more than just "Click science button while here". Seismic impactors, terrain mappers, plume flybys, geologic surveys, neutrino telescopes, something non-trivial.

@@durbeshpatel3047 Which is a pity, really. But it's a failure of their own making, caused by greed and the catastrophic project management. First they hyped up the game, well knowing that they couldn't deliver what they promised at release, squandered money and time for things that could have been added later with resources Squad could have only dreamed of when they started, and only now ever so slowly begin to actually get into gear, and it's IMHO too late. When the game released it was little more than a tech demo, similar in scope as the first publicly available versions of KSP1, but for the price of a full game. Also with the Forum, Social Media and Video posts, I think that intercept does them and therefor also does parts of the Marketing. 12:14 Meanwhile all the layoffs in the industry. There are 3 things coming together with the whole backlash: - People don't know, or don't want to admit, that Early Access is alpha software and that bugs should be expected and all the content isn't going to be there. - Complaining people are louder than people who don't complain. - Comparing a 10 year old game with a game which isn't even 10% done. It's like a person paid someone to make a house and just moved in with only the foundation being ready and then started to complain that it's unlivable and their old home is the best but forgetting that the old house went through the same thing.

Another year for Interstellar? Sure, tell everyone that you are looking at years until it becomes the game that was promised, so that they know what their $50 is for (although they had a sale last year, so that doesn't quite fit your explanation of their possible reasoning for AAA pricing).... but Steam Early Access is not for Alpha's.

Between this, Cities Skylines 2, "Quadruple A" games, etc, it feels like we've hit an unsustainable amount of overpromising and under delivering. I've very disappointed in this and CS2. I think I'm done with pre-ordering. I'd pay a lot of money for a properly done game, and the bar for sequels is that it needs to be at least as good as the first game at launch. I wonder if we've just run out of management and developer talent. It seems like a lot of these games have very impressive visuals and are a disaster underneath. Maybe the greybeards are right about the lack of fundamentals like assembly and C in training new developers? Something has to give in the game development space.

I disagree that seeing delta-v and twr on the vab is "a great tool for experienced players". My biggest hurdle coming into KSP was precisely having to guess this stuff, and feel like it's a great tool for *novice* players. Experienced players can eyeball stuff. Newbies can't. I shy away from mods, but this was one of those very few cases where I had to do it, because you simply can't plan a complex mission out without this information. As for the game, For Science really is a major milestone, but I find myself still pretty much ignoring it, since KSP1 offers pretty much everything this one does, and more. I'll pick it up when some modicum of gameplay involving colonies or interstellar travel gets developed, which I'm still guessing will come towards the end of the year, with maybe a tentative beta beforehand.

This is why Early Access doesn't matter. I've played early access games made by single developers that were in a better early state than this game. In fact, I played the first version of KSP 1 when it was made by one guy and even that game was significantly more stable than this game was. EA ≠ laziness. There's no excuse why the game should cost $50 when it came out in the state that it did. This game had so many delays, had larger funding and a larger team versus the previous game. And I'm tired of everyone coming up with excuses and defending shitty practices no matter how bad a game gets. Remember The Day Before? That game had thousands of red flags since the day it was announced and people STILL bought it, and despite the studio lying at face-value to them repeatedly, they still tried to defend the game and say it would be amazing eventually. It's almost like people are trying to cope with their buyer's remorse by convincing themselves their purchase was justified, and that's why people go through so much effort to defend terrible practices and, in my personal experience, harass and sometimes even send death threats to those who have _genuine_ problems with the games.

@@MeCooper Lol In all seriousness though, Early Access needs to be used more responsibly. I think my favorite Early Access games are BeamNG and H3VR. Especially the latter, it's a VR game by one guy and it's been in EA for probably 8 years now. The first version in 2016 was stable at launch and it's been getting an update every Friday (almost consistently since sometimes he takes a week off or something) for those 8 years. With over hundreds of firearms and detailed controls and modes, he takes EA to the next level. Originally, his Early Access page said the release date would likely be 2018. But then eventually got changed to "no idea, but it doesn't matter since there's always plenty to do". That's the kind of EA I want to see. An Early Access where developers are super transparent and have a proper update schedule, not laziness, false promises, and a roadmap with no guarantees of achieving. And especially not for $50 goddamn bucks. Not to mention that, while I get the pandemic is a thing, they still delayed this game SO much. What was all that delaying for when the game finally came out in such a rough, unfinished state?

KSP 1 has a certain charm to it. And this charm seems completely lost on the developers of KSP 2. When I hear them talking about the sleek design and the epic graphics, I hear Todd Howard screaming "16x the detail!". KSP 1 doesn't look great, It doesn't perform well, It's buggy - yet no one cares because it's such a great concept. So far my impression of KSP2's development is "We're making it look cool, we'll figure out the rest later", completely backwards compared to the first game.

I care, lol! One time, in 1.8, I adjusted my thrust limiter using a custom axis and only 1 of the 2 engines adjusted. The rocket started spinning as I was trying to land! Thankfully, it was around Minmus so I had time to correct it, but I still don't get how such a bug was possible. How do you even make the changing of a number in memory unreliable? In 1.12, that doesn't happen, but instead, drills turn themselves off and you need to right-click each drill before they'll respond to the action group to make them start. There are other issues.

Seeing again nate in video claiming they had issues with devs playing the game too much, just returns the it is scammy in the way it was releases, how can we get a buggy mess that is not playable, with the claim they had to limit devs play of the game. It just does not add up.

Why would you do colonies before resources? Supplying colonies with resources is an absolutely pivotal part of any and all KSP1 colonization mods - that is to say, those that actually add game mechanics and don't just give you a bunch of habitat-shaped parts that are designed to be stuck to the ground. So if they actually do colonization before resources, they'd better have some truly awesome plan.
@mad_mexican9930

IIRC, this question was actually answered in one of the AMAs. The given reason was that they wanted colony gameplay to be able to stand on its own two feet without the need for resource management to make it interesting. Note that they haven't really talked a lot of colony gameplay so it remains to be seen how they intend to achieve this, but they have repeatedly stated they want colonies to be in service of spaceflight and not for the game to turn into a colony management sim.

@@mad_mexican9930 I can see a few ways they can actually make colonisation pop. A few mods in KSP1 had interesting concepts that I'd love to see revisited. Listening to that pre-release hype again made me angry. Not at the developers, but at myself for believing it. KSP2 was the first time I broke that rule.

Sadly, due to poorer vision and not wanting to sit too close to a 32 inch screen, I can't play KSP 2 with anything but visual clues that I'm looking at the right thing. It's been my major complaint since the firsts day of launch, and has yet to be addressed properly. The one idea for a fix I see on the forums from users seems to be ditching the pixel fonts, which are fuzzy at best and downright illegible at the worst. Outside of that, I just want to see modding come in, but only when it's ready to be modded. I'm still hopeful that it will surpass the playtime I have had in KSP at some point. After all, we all play this game where we build rockets to throw little green people off their world at high speed.

Your complaints about the game are VERY different than mine. First, I am still getting disappearing orbits. That's a game breaking bug that needs to get squashed ASAP. Also the horrible maneuver nodes, the huge labels that pop up everywhere and get in the way of maneuver nodes and ship icons, the fact that you can't create a maneuver node in a planet or moon's SOI unless your ship is already in that SOI, the ridiculously huge and incredibly bright SOI entry and exit indicators, the random decaying orbits that are still present, the fact that you cannot target or focus on any body that you have ships landed on or orbiting, so you have to focus on the ship, zoom in, then target the planet, zoom out, focus on a ship orbiting the Mun, Minmus, or Kerbin, then zoom in again, The random dots that appear and take your focus somewhere near the planet, The pitch-black darkness making it very annoying to land on the dark side of a planet or Mun. I'm sure I've forgotten some, but all of these are very aggravating, especially when streaming. I lose viewers constantly because they just don't want to watch me fight the game every step of the way, for hours at a time, and I'm sure my aggravation shows, which doesn't make for an enjoyable stream. IMO everything I mentioned here needs to be fixed or the game is just not enjoyable for anything past the Mun and Minmus.

I wish they would have delayed the game until it was at least in beta quality for early access. Palworld is a good example of what a reasonable expectation of what early access should look like, solid bones and mechanics but room to flesh out and expand upon itself and work out bugs. Unfortunately, KSP2 released at pre-alpha quality and permanently turned off a lot of prospective buyers, and disappointed many of those who did buy. Still love KSP1 though and will give KSP2 a second chance when in a few years when/if it gets close to what was expected on release.

@@galliumgames3962 true, that def has an impact. Although I think that also just backs up the fact they released it too soon. So I can’t rly blame them for that. It’s just crazy to me like u said, that they released it in a pre-alpha state. And the fact that it released OVER a year ago and it’s not even in the v0.3 build when they add the colonies till MAYBE this summer. And looking at the road map the game isn’t complete (v1.0) until AFTER v0.6, so it’s like when tf are we gonna see that, 2028?! Whatever way you look at it that is not good news and I have my doubts it’ll even get there before the plug gets pulled and they’re forced to move on bc of all the bad reviews, the sheer amount of work they still have left to do and what I can only predict are low sales. That just doesn’t seem financially viable. So idk, maybe they can pump out those other parts rly fast with the foundation laid, either way it’s super disappointing as of today..

I've been watching the community's reactions ever since early Feb. The hype came to the most just after some people tried KSP2 themselves, and all of it broke when KSP2 launched and what I call the "big dissapointment" happened. From March to November the community was filled with "haters", people who hate the game even if they didn't buy it, having Reddit being the most crazy one since haters can downvote any post saying good stuff about KSP2. Small bugs were exaggerated to being gamebraking and a lot of peo sonal attacks have been made, mostly towards Nate and Dakota.

I have abandoned reddit for a while now. The toxicity in the community over there was one reason, the bigger reason is the overall business practices and how they have made the platform worse over the years. But the space community is so deeply entrenched over there that it will be a lot harder.
