Im getting a new 85kw put in my 2013 model s. Because tesla doesnt make 85kw for the S anymore, my new battery is actually a 100kw that has been software reduced to 85
$38k is a sweet deal, and I have a dealership license. I almost purchased the same year in the Manheim auction online, around that price, but it had hood damage and I wasn't sure because I did not have enough detail about it.
However, the normal electrical connector is not really made to transmit that much current, so if you are unlucky, the cables in the wall can get too hot. that's why you should have a so-called charging box
My only complaint so far with my model S is that where is the storage? No storage on the doors no storage behind the seats. I'm a mother of eight canis gracious. Where do I keep the Kleenex
Haha, yeah it was a bad idea how they left out things like door pocket storage, map pockets, coat hooks. I bought a little drawer organizer for the space under the screen to hold sun glasses. There is lots of room in the center console at least :)
It crazy how far Telsa prices have fallen over a few years. Watched this video as I was curious after looking at the same model with only 46K miles (one owner, no accidents) from a local Chrysler dealership who struggling to sell it for $23,000.
It seems that way, but it's a very normal depreciation curve. Cars lose 50% of their value after 5 years - which is when I like to buy them 🙂. So, my car stickered for 75k and should be 32.5k after 5 years. After 7 years, which is now, it should lose another 20% or so, which is $26k
I recently bought this exact model used. Great car. How much typical range does yours show? How much range do you actually get? Mine has that weird quirk where the kWh consumption that the car computer shows seems underreported by about 20%, otherwise the numbers wouldn't add up.
Very cool! Last time I checked, it was about 220mi I think 🙂 I don't use the range in miles though, I switched to battery % and it's very accurate at estimating arrival % with the nav. Also I find it less stressful somehow 😅 (actually not stressful at all!)
Thank You! Since I made the video, I replaced a few parts of the front suspension, and some wheels. The roads are surprisingly bad here in Texas because of the clay. There is an 8-year high voltage fuse I just had replaced under warranty, that comes up at the 6.5 year mark I'm very happy with the reliability :)
Did you get the extended warranty for parts and stuff or is it just the remaining battery and motor that's remaining . I've just got a x 2017. And plan to keep for a few years but worried on resale cos the battery warranty would be out in 2 yrs...
I'm in the same boat, no extended warranty so just the 8-year, unlimited mile warranty they had at the time of original sale. I'm not planning on selling the car anytime soon, and I have FSD so that could be a factor :)
The price is probably affected by how much the range has decreased. So if a specific car is much cheaper than another car with the same car model and model year, there might be a reason
you might think so, but I don't think most sellers consider that esp dealers used to selling legacy auto. Degredation not a big deal, 9% after 5 years for me
Hi! I think that depends on if it has HW2 which came out in October. Autopilot HW2 is necessary for the car to be upgraded to FSD, that's why I carefully chose a car made in 2017. But if you don't care about FSD then that's not a concern. They also changed the looks of the car that year, is it the nose cone or the modern look? What options does it come with?
Gotcha! The modern look nose is good. I don't know about the Belgian car market but at $44k with about 40k miles it seems reasonable if it were in the US given the inflated market. The battery and powertrain warranty will last until 2024 so that's good! The FSD thing would dissuade me but I'm an optimist that they'll figure it out ;)
Useful owner update; thank you. I have a similar Model S in Hong Kong but I can’t upgrade my cameras. Is this available where you are and how much will it cost you (to upgrade your cameras for FSD)?
is a Used 2017 Tesla Model S 75 $48k worth it with 58K miles from a non-Tesla dealership? The software screen says premium connectivity & FSD included. I'm not sure if MCU2 is installed, but if not, I'm willing to drop $1500 for the upgrade. I can trade in so effectively the car is low $30k (Edit): For to add, love the honest ownership details in a friendly environment. Doggo was relaxing the whole time.
Seems like a fair market price (the way things are now), especially considering FSD. The MCU2 is totally worth it! I also bought 3rd party, and don't regret it. You just have to set up a Tesla account and transfer ownership, pretty straightforward :)
You can check if it has MCU2 by checking if it has Netflix and the other modern games. A 2017 will probably not have unlimited Supercharging, but be sure to check.
Lexus reliability is great! I don't remember if I mentioned it, but I was going to get an IS350 F-Sport until I decided to get the Tesla. On the other side, the new features my Tesla has been given oven the air are mind-blowing! Perpendicular autopark, improved music quality, new streaming video and audio sources....and best of all is FSD. It's not perfect but man, it's insane!
It's awesome! It's great not having to swipe a card, doesn't take that long, I don't even watch much tv on road trips, and there are new locations popping up like crazy!
Yep, I use Chase's MyCar feature to track the value and private party estimate is now $27k. The used car market went pretty nuts there due to the chip shortage and long wait times for new cars. It's been coming back down to earth now. The car was $75k ish sticker so 65% depreciation over 7 years makes sense I made a video about the crazy market: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ww0ClhAAfJ0.htmlsi=I-yt2rJNUROY21m-
Glad you enjoyed it! :) Ah, another myth that keeps popping up here and there: www.epa.gov/greenvehicles/electric-vehicle-myths And here in Texas, wind and solar accounted for 28% of power production last year. Adding in 10% from nuclear, that's 38% clean energy. The state is expected to install 7.7 gigawatts of solar power this year, far exceeding California's 4.2, meaning that running them will become cleaner over time as the grid becomes cleaner
But be a little careful, find out how many miles the electric motor on a Tesla S lasts on average. You can expect that the new engine will cost some money. The same applies to the battery, but you see the battery health. There is a dealer in Sweden who actually states the battery health of used electric cars
Not mine, the cutoff for that was a little bit earlier - but I wanted one of the ones that was upgrade-able for FSD :) It did come with free premium connectivity though!
It was free charging on Tesla S that were manufactured or registered before January 15, 2017. And does it still apply to those cars Even when the car has changed owners?
The said they upgraded my mcu and I do not see it in my car's information. How do you confirm that. We have the same car I bought FSD. Signed up for the FSD. But now I cannot say I have seen it.
If they upgraded to MCU2, you should have video games and streaming services For FSD, if your car is older like mine you may need to get the camera retrofit in order to be eligible - on the Safety Score tab in the app, mine used to say ineligible at the top, and clicking on it would say b/c cameras Hope that helps!
I’m looking at a black 2017 model s 75d with 28k miles for $55k. I ordered a red base model 3 back in august of last year for the old price of $39k but it’s been almost a year and I’m still waiting for a vin. Do you think I should continue waiting for a brand new model 3 or get this car? I am starting to really like the look of the model s on the outside. Am I just being impatient?
I love my Model S, and a 75D would be sweet....but we're comparing $39k for a brand-new Model 3 vs $55k for a five-year old Model S. Repairs on a Model 3 I bet are cheaper on average, and parts availability should be better too, plus you're getting the warranty. For me, the Model 3 was never that attractive because of the lack of a hatch back, and I just love the way the S looks...but you were going for a Model 3 originally so yes, it sound like you might be getting tired of waiting. For which I don't blame you, waiting nearly a year is pretty crazy! However you decide, I hope you end up very happy with your purchase!
I was living in NH (no sales tax) and had it delivered, they picked up my old car for trade in ($6k). It was $32k after the trade in. No warranty besides Tesla's :)
@FrugalNotCheap I recently bought a 2017 Model S 75D with 78k miles with a drive out price of ~$36k ( including taxes plus dealer warranty) ..hopefully it's a good deal
It is so stupid that people are so happy that their few year old Tesla gets battery and drive unit replaced🤦♂️ These car break down constantly why would anyone buy one outside warrenty? Just look at the used market, how many have their battery and drive unit replaced after 100.000km 🤦♂️
I don't think anyone actually had good statistics on the total fleet battery or drive unitbfailure rate, but Tesla packs are very reliable especially after 2017, and they continually make improvements to parts in production over time, at a rate unprecedented by other auto manufacturers. Drive units are quite simple compared to ICE. I got mine replaced because it was a little noisy lol. Not because it wasn't working well.
That's about $47k with 60,000mi. I'm not sure I would have paid that much for my car personally, I paid $38k. The market has gone nuts. What options does it come with?
Ha! I'll take that as a compliment 😄 You may know this, but he's actually quite frugal in his own way: doesn't have huge mansions, yachts, etc. His home near SpaceX in south Texas is quite humble
