I loved Laurie, saw her live at the Paris Olympia and the "Mutualité" at the end of the 80s and that was entirely worth it, she was what those who love her love her for, but I'm only having my first exposure to OneOhTrix, and Laurie did not come to mind from back then, on account of the 30 years ( _of growing chaos!_ ) chasm. The aspect they have in common, I think, is _"Trying to create distinctly modern music borrowing on a variety of classical tones, attributes, references"._ And the difference which springs to mind after listening only to this "Official Audio" of OneOhTrix Point Never is the following: • Laurie Anderson's modern mash was more personalized, it was Laurie's music, founded on Laurie's powerful personal vision of the world, resolute engagements, etc. • Daniel "OneOhTrix" Lopatin's modern mash is much more of a general synthesis -- _quite what the times request_ ; he tends to humbly and meaningfully put his person in the background, behind his project alias, so as to put himself in the role of a *receiver,* taking in as many of various existing musicscapes, mannerisms ( _in a positive sense_ ), timbers, etc. as possible... and then play *"re-transmitter"* of his synthesis. My first conclusive impression is that Laurie worked in the same realm and incarnated a "stage", of which OneOhTrix may be a first accomplishment, but that she belonged too strongly to the _"Me and what I have to say"_ times. This sounds much more *"universal",* and if that impression turns out to persist with me after listening to more of the same ( _and probably ordering the album_ ), OneOhTrix offers us a major accomplishment for the times. \o/
