@EricaGriffin please add the silicone cases in your next OP5 review, that is if you are going to make another soon. I think I am going to buy the OP5, but need to weigh my options on the cases available as I hate scratches on my phone(who doesn't).
I still don't get it why they choose telephoto lens instead of LG style wide angle lens as the secondary lens. Apple is not always right. For dual camera system, I personally think LG did a great job than any other manufacturer.
every youtube other than erica is sponsored by dbrandz...i'm really sick of hearing a random dbrandz plug...."metal phone can be slippery, that can be solved thanks to our friends at dbrandz!"
Very well put up review... and happy to see giving OP a chance to sort some mess out with software updates do review again in s few weeks so consumer can know if OP does something about these issues out not.
Great video as always Erica! Maybe the best advice is to wait and see how the camera improves with software updates. Will stick with the Pixel XL for now!
BlackLion Flossy Carter is great with his long "real reviews" too. I don't like his short videos though. On the other hand, Mr Mobile and MKBHD are too generic and their videos lack the technical content. I can find the specs and the design by myself online. I want reviewers to show me the stuff that I can't check out without having the phone on me.
ali282h actually Mr Mobile is honest, he will say what he doesn't like on a certain device like Jaime Rivera, Flossy Carter though, that guy is as real as it can be, great reviewer and an entertainer too.
I like that Erica doesn't waste 10 MINUTES blabbering about nothing while showing off the box (Yes, I've seen a few phone reviews that took forever to get to the actual unboxing!). Her reviews may be long but I tell others: "stick around. They're worth your time."
Jacopo Podavini lg g6 mark all the things that makes the phone great . great design. better camera. lg support the software for long time . and the battery is pretty OK. and the performance is great also.
LG already has a older processor and less ram, oneplus is future proof because of the xda community that will keep updating it. LG has better screen and camera, worst software and overall specs
Including the XDA developers community is really great and a rare thing on reviews here on youtube! First video I watched from you, but you definitely deserved my sub! Good job!
Why do people think a phone looking so called premium is more important than how easy is to pick up and hold and of course protection? The lip you dont like erica is actually great if the phone is face down as keeps the screen raised, in addition it makes it harder to accidentally touch the edge of the screen which I do a lot without such a cover, the first thing I do when getting a phone is buying a gel type cover to give me grip to pick up the phone and add protection, I particularly hate shiny looking phones, the problem is as long as reviewers keep saying curved edges and thin phones are great then the manufacturers will keep heading to that horrible design. :( Appreciate the lengthy review as always better than the short ones others do. Also that 8 gig of ram can be used quite easily, great for multitasking. My oneplusone phone multitasks way quicker then my galaxy s7. Also I forgot to mention I hate phones that have minimal bezel, again because makes too easy to accidentally touch the screen when holding the phone, but I am ok with having no home button as soft buttons I have accepted.
I want a lip so thats not nobody :) Most people I know buy gel cases for their phones as well. I dont buy a phone because it looks pretty :) I will take a lip any day over the annoyance of not been able to hold the phone without accidentally touching the screen. If you was right these gel cases would not exist, as they wont sell something that noone buys.
chrcoluk yeah I finally dropped my s7 a picked it up and all the glass back is smashed it's smashed straight on the curved edges on the back it's definitely a design flaw couldn't believe it, it wasn't even from pocket height either.
hey Erica, i really hope you answer this. i've been using my oneplus one since i got it back in 2014. still works though it sometimes either restarts or battery related problems. would you suggest i upgrade to oneplus five?
Im looking to buy this phone for next month, and in some articles say oneplus 5T will release. And they say it's more good but more expensive. So do you think I better buy oneplus 5 or oneplus5T? Thanks😀
It's amazing how many people call this a flop just because it looks like an iPhone. If oneplus had only made the damn things vertical I wonder what the reviews would have been like.
roadle32111 design has nothing to do with that. This device sucks because of total camera fail, lack of waterproof, huge bezels, 3years old display, slow usb 2 connection, 5GHz wifi dropping, lies of the company (about the optical zoom and cheating in benchmark, and who knows what else). And all that for the price of Samsung S8. Hell, I can get any Android flagship around 550$ from my mobile operator on a contract.
Sergey Faynitskiy I'd say all of those things are a bit picky (the wifi dropping isn't even true). I do however agree that the camera was a fail despite the fact that it was the main selling point. Could you elaborate on the slow USB connection? I've never heard that complaint before.
@@roadle11223 thanks so much for the OnePlus community and OnePlus for making it better with update after update. No other company so plentiful in that. You never worry about software with OnePlus, ever.
Love ur in depth reviews, always have.... :) What I really would like to hear about is the speaker loudness and clarity when listening to music or the ringtone loudness when u get a call.... Guess u kinda missed that part....
well-done , you are the only RU-vid's I have seen to spot the water colour jpeg rendering . I did a test my self comparing it to my galaxy s6 and s6 was way more natural and dynamic range was better. I personally really wanted to upgrade to the oneplus 5 but with this type of photos I can't use it .
Your videos are soooo long but they never ever get boring for one second. That is some talent! You are one of the main reasons I bought the OnePlus 3 and it has been my most satisfying buy to date. ✌️
Why would you want to usd your phone in the pool or bath? Also if youre careful enough and dont use your phone in the bathroom, its impossible to get water damage. (rain sure, but if its raining heavily you cant even use your screen because it stats freaking out.
It might not feel like a iPhone. But you're out of your mind if you don't think it looks like one. I'm sorry but it looks exactly like a matte black iPhone 7+
at $539 for the top model they're entering premium phone premium price territory. the value proposition from oneplus is officially gone. the OP6 is gonna be make or break for the company. $600+ device from oneplus will have to be the best in the market...or they will die.
Yudo NeidaNo dude you realize that getting a comparable iphone or Samsung phone will set you back almost a $1000,so no!!!!!their value isn't gone, price for performance is unbeatable with one plus 5 only followed close by Huawei with the mate 9 selling right now for 479.99 at Best Buy and the P10 is also coming, both beastly phones soooooo i don't agree with you friend.
a GS8 and GS8 plus don't cost $1000. nowhere near it actually. with trade in and instant discounts you can get either device for around $600. LG and HTC's latest offerings can be had at a similar price. now you're in a situation where someone can get a device from a reputable brand name company with better after sale service by paying just a bit more money. oneplus is in a really bad situation and if there next device which isn't going to go down in price but will inevitably go up isn't truly best in class as far as overall performance(fix that camera) they're gonna have REAL problems.
Great video one of the first one plus 5 in depth video I have seen. I’m really thinking about getting this phone. I have an iPhone 7 Plus not sure if that’s means I will be down grading or not. But I’m really tired of how Apple prices continually to go up and up. Simply don’t want to pay the ridiculous prices anymore. So that is I’m looking at other options. I do have a question for you, you mentioned that you don’t like having cases on your phones. Is there a phone that is durable and non slippery in the hand. Just was wondering what your thoughts was on a phone that I don’t have to use a case on. The next phone I get I will not be purchasing any cases I want to use the phone naked.
Paulo Not true, in the time you'll really need 8GB RAM your device will be outdated and CPU/GPU wont pull new software that consumes so much RAM. So, you'll need to upgrade the phone anyway. But, by taking 4GB ram away now, the could reduce the price.
LoveToRU-vid I like how Erica is more technical compared to the same drivel you hear from other reviewers. I notice the reviewers reviewing the so called “china device” is also more technical in this regard
30 mins is alot of time to spend on a video unless you are taking your dinner or planning to buy a phone in near future. i usually let her videos play in the background while i do other stuff. might wanna cut down on pointless sarcasm next time Serhat
Hi Erica, thank you for being so genuine. I love my OnePlus One and am considering upgrading (it's still solid) in September. for $100 difference, would you recommend I get 3T, 5, or wait for next year?
Rolando Quezada ikr but people are actually buying it man. strange. apparently what people or most of them want Is a phone that feels better than an iPhone but has android and great specs.
Erica ! one good in-depth reviewer that I find on RU-vid after all those ones who just explain the features to decide if a device is good or bad. Back before 3 years your video was the one which made me get one Moto X for me. Now, this is the one which made me get one 1+5 to wait and write a comment from it. Yeah I'm on my 1+5 and a cheers from one of your fan viewer 🙌😇
Hey Erica! Could you please check if you can see a weird optical effect like a rolling Shutter or Jello effect when scrolling slowly up and down? For better understanding, this is a quote from a user called Elsydeon on XDA: "that there's almost like some sort of weird optical effect going on as the screen goes upward or downward. It's almost as if as it goes up, there's a slight sense of what's on the screen getting elongated, and as you scroll back down, it shrinks back to normal size. Almost like a funhouse mirror rubberbanding effect. I thought maybe it had something to do with the angle I was holding the phone's screen or something, but it's not that. It's slightly disorienting and even a tad nauseous watching it do this, and I've NEVER seen this effect on any other Android phone I've owned before."
Was your dad the only guy ur mom screwed? NO! She tried many others before she decided he was the ONE! Which is what phone companies do also.....get over it.
How Brilliant U R furnishing all details Technical Audio Video with analysing is amazing. The Clear wide view screen in full details make other youtubers has to learn n advice from U.
Everybody is like "oh it looks so much like the iPhone because of the cameras". Dude, there's a ton of phones with the same cameras positioning. It looks like the iPhone 7 because of the antennas and the color. They have the exact same look.
I'm from Brazil, this is the first time I saw your channel, and I loved it! Funny, technical, say the truth about the device, OP5 will be my next phone definitely, and this review/unboxing/first impressions really helped me to decide that. Thank you, and I'll subscribe your channel right now. See u!
This is probably the most comprehensive review I've ever seen for any phone. Thanks for the great view. Also, I've owned a number of Samsung flagship phones one of them literally died. So I decided that I was going to switch brands this year and give the Oneplus a try. So far, after one month I can say that I've never felt a more powerful phone and it's half the price of the Samsung Note 8. Hands down best phone I've ever used!!
Erica Griffin ! You always go where no reviews go, it's such good content and you really deepdive into the devices. Thanks for making it easier for the rest of us to choose what to buy
Wow. This was the best review I have seen so far - since I am hyped af for the OP5, I have seen A LOT. Very objective, very deep review, where you were honest about what was your subjective opinion. Very hard to see this nowadays. You, mylady, have gained a new subscriber.
Very nice and careful initial run through. I always learn a lot from you, especially about the screens. Please smile more during your test videos. demos.😀
Another great video Erica, thank you very much! I've been waiting for your first impressions of this phone, glad to hear that you are so positive about it. I was a little on the fence when the early bird order went out, but I ordered it yesterday. I have the s8 now which is a great phone.. But that clean, smooth and snappy stock-like UI....gotta have it! 💪😁 Anyway, keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for your precious time. its really helps us. you said camera updates will improve the quality, do you any idea when it shall be coming..?
There is an open alternative to Dash Charge and Qualcomm QuickCharge called USB-PD that Google has asked manufacture to use (so the same fast charger would work with all phones)
I would like to mention one drawback in the RAM part. keep in mind that closed apps are not suspended at all since it's kept active in the 8GB memory. Therefore, draining the battery almost 30-40% overnight. OS will give you a warning, however, make sure to clear all active - performance consuming - applications or games to lower the drainage. I haven't had this issue with my previous iPhone and Samsung galaxy.
I assume 3rd party apps like snapchat and Instagram use the wide lens, but can you confirm that? Very few people seem to talk about 3rd party app camera performance, which matters a lot to some of us. (Especially snapchat addicted teens like myself) I'd be nice if you could include this in future reviews also.
Hey Erica, I just read on a forum that the Oneplus 5 can't stream Netflix / Amazon / Google Play movies in HD. The poster said the services work, but you will only get 480p resolution. Can you verify if that's true? I want to buy one, but I don't know anyone who has one to test the various video services and the quality. I love your reviews, whether you see this comment or not!
