LG made an incredible phone that will in every way match up to the likes of Samsung or beyond! Check it out! I go pretty into depth with the features. Stay tuned for the full review. This is a first-look unit and is NOT a retail model.
I'm super excited that they went with OLED for the display. My v20 has tons of ghosting on the display. As I move from app to app, I'll be able to see remnants of the previous app's graphics, especially if the current app has dark areas on the screen.
Hells favorite angel mike totally true. I've been Samsung since 2013 and I've loved them all. I've had every galaxy accept the S5 which I've heard wasn't super great. Plus I've had some awesome battery life with Samsung too when the iPhone still doesn't even have a 2000mah lol! Anything Apple makes is all hype and overpriced. I will never get an iPhone
Honestly you have THE BEST hands on review of the v30 right now. I find that a lot of your reviews tend to be more informative than others. Keep up the good work! I most certainly appreciate it.
That's hot. Finally LG getting their act together. Only negative I found is having only 4 GB instead of 6, but I can over look that for all the features they did add
J. Al Razqi The fact you find 6gb of ram is the only negative is saying a lot. Either this will be a really good phone or you're just not looking hard enough.
First time to your channel, I was missing out because you do the most knowledgeable and thorough tech reviews out there. Water resistance, cameras, frame rates, display, etc., you test every aspect so thoroughly, thank you!
Not bothered about the price. I always get mine imported from Hong Kong or Taiwan, as I did with my LG G5 and G6. Fingerprint scanner placement is just fine, no different to the G5 or G6. However, I don't use it. Oreo will come before the end of the year, but that doesn't bother me either. The V30 has so many upgrades over the G6 - V series has now taken the role from the G series as LG's best flagship.
lol here comes the bootloop fanatics... it's been valid on the past phones, but I haven't come across it on the newer ones... so I don't think it will bootloop
Dj Raztah I really hope it doesn't, it happened on my current device G4. And it hasn't been as good since the repairs. App constantly crashing, phone restarting, and over all slow performance when you need it. Battery life is butchered too, because of the apps crashing/hanging up.
I've watched a bunch of the V30 reviews today, and yours is by far the most comprehensive, useful, and interesting review. I definitely want one. Thanks!
atl3630 People whining about a button despite the phone being amazing and bixby voice already being as good as Siri and better in areas and close to Google Assistant. Why complain? And theres a few ways to deactivate it including an official one. And an app to switch it's function. People need to stop. And with a case on it it's not like it'll get pressed accidentally even without I didn't press it by accident. A little use it's very easy to tell what's volume down and what's bixby.
Been watching several other "initial review" videos and this is by far the best one. Others even thought the giphy option wasnt available on these pre-production models. Good job.
Erica, thank you! By far, you have provided the best overview of this phone I have seen yet...and I have watched about 20 of them so far. Keep up the great work. And, yeah, I can't wait to get this phone!
Watching on my LG V20 and the best phone I've ever used (including 2 iPhones amd bought the LG after watching this channel) Trading in the V20 for this V30...without a doubt. This channel is one of the best on RU-vid...keep up the awesome work!!
15:50 - So MANY great camera Features - Guided Manual Mode. Click on an example image and it loads the Preset, then it tells you what is incorrect for your own situation.
Watching your videos is quite an education, Erica. I haven't seen another pre production unit video with so much attention to detail. Great stuff. Looking forward to your detailed review on this one.
Now, am really excited..!! this is perfect phone !! everything I wanted. (except stereo speakers, but i'll skip those infront of all these awesome features.!!!) perfect essential phone
It's not perfect, but nothing is. Every phone has it's downsides, however minimal, so it's just a matter of working out what's most important to you. In the V30's case, the relatively low-res front-facing camera is an issue for some, although I'm not big on selfies so it's no issue for me. The speaker is a bit disappointing too, as you say, but I rarely use the speaker and am almost always using headphones. The screen is also not as good as those from Samsung overall, although most people aren't having any real issues and those who are generally only notice is fairly specific conditions. Something like the S Pen would be of benefit to some too, although many would simply never use it. Those points will be issues for some but not for me, so I'll be grabbing one as soon as I can, which should be some time in November here in Australia.
V10 owner here. LOVE the V series. Not sure about some of the big changes like sealed battery and loss of second screen, but look forward to the water resistance and AMOLED screen so lets see how it plays out. Very intrigud.
That OLED screen is gorgeous! Finally LG has a display that competes with Samsung's Super AMOLED display. But I can't help but to take a few digs at LG for cheaping out on few things. Why no auto focus on wide angle lens? And why Gorilla glass 4 over the camera lens when the rest of the phone is Gorilla glass 5?
Marlon Johnson well there's no Auto focus on the wide angle because, well, it's wide. You're not zooming in and basically can't focus on a subject. They also used GG4 on the camera because it's more scratch resistant than GG5.
Marlon Johnson not so sure about lack of focus option on the wide angle. There's another 'whole day use review' of the V30 by another reviewer and he seems to suggest that the wide angle has focusing option as well, just doesn't get as close as the main lens. Dont know which is correct though...guess we'll find out
Best smartphone reviews on YT. Can't wait for the V30 retail review! None of the 2017 flagships are a perfect fit for me, but this seems like it could be the closest.
I’ve just watched about 8 full reviews on this phone and this is the best review by far. I’m stuck between this and the new mate 10 that’s not released here yet. Please review when it’s released!
I have a galaxy note 4 since day 1 and I've been waiting to get a new phone for a long time but every time I think I've decided a new phone comes out and I put it off even longer because there's always something better and I can't decide. Too many options!
Phone has very little incremental updates nowadays, just know what you want then go for it maybe even wait 6 months after release to get it way cheaper.
I have the note 4 too and I will upgrade it with something like the zenfone ar or better...and second hand so it will be affordable it all depends on what is important for u and how much money u want to spent
+pumpuppthevolume With the new ARCore, i think almost all existing Android phones will come will come with similar AR experience as Tango phones soon. Most likely won't have another phone with 3 cameras again.
Kuen Lee Yeah Google is pretty much stopping focusing on tango, and shifting to ARCore cz it can be used by more people........ so i don't recommend a tango phone right now.........
Oh my god. Why did I buy G6? I could've waited several more months to get this beast. And very nice thorough review Erica. One of best first look reviews I've ever seen. You surely know what you should show :D!
As much as I want that S-pen (and previously had planned to get the Note 8), I think I'm going to go for the V30. I love that it's not a tall, skinny phone as so many are nowadays, and that the corners are rounded (easier on the jeans pockets), and that the screen doesn't wrap around the sides. The camera looks fantastic. Absolutely love what I'm seeing here so far. This V series really rocks!
This is the best phone review I have EVER seen. Everyone else says little about the phone then imedidatly jump into the camera as if that is the most important part of the phone. I watch CNET, Engadget, The Verge and others and this is the best. She takes you through the phone to let you decide if it's the phone for you. Everyone else spends wash too much time talking about the camera and pictures.
First time watching your channel, this hands on video was really thorough unlike the others I saw. You got yourself a subscriber, keep at it, nice work.
Excellent review, Mrs. Griffin! Thorough and useful. Please continue this great style of reviewing, we do benefit a lot from your care in encompassing all the useful information! 👍❤️
Absolutely love have in depth your reviews no 1 on youtube does it like you especially in depth on all the features , setting etc keep up the good work ,
Doge The Dog bixby is good but I do hate where they put the button I have to agreed with you here. I'm not biased to any phone buy the way. I've had all the big high phones. I like this new lg if I didn't use the spen id think about this phone or any others
Really nice overview! You're the first so far to both water test and point out the SD card option. I wonder if this is 'essentially' the Google Pixel 2 XL? In any case it seems to be an excellent choice.
After this video i fell in love with V30 even more. I mean, i decided to get V30 even before G6 was released, because i liked V20 a lot and i watched live stream and all other videos, but this one was best i can say. I am really happy that you liked it. Remembering that video you made about LG G5 and how much you were disappointed in it. I was really sad and mad at the same time while watching video about G5. And now, 1.5 years after it, i am watching this video, where you are really pleased with what LG has accomplished :)
Think if you will use the zoom lens or wide angle lens more. Personally, i find a zoom lens more useful and i also don't like the fisheye effect on the LG wide angle lens. My friend has the V20 and she doesn't use the wide angle lens anymore, so it's kinda totally useless dual lens for her.
Tahoe King I have a LG G6 , the v30 is just a bigger screen version of G6. Not much different and I bet the v30 has no led notification light . And the mini usb has a different shape of connector with the type c , so! I don't think its compatible.
Hi Erica! Love your channel, thanks for these great, in-depth reviews. When you do get a round to a full review on this one, could you talk about how the mic setup and control is different on this version from the LG V20? It seems like maybe they've ditched a couple of mics, but I'm not sure. Would also love a more in-depth look at screen calibration. I'm a photographer looking for my next Smartphone, and I transfer a lot of images on to the device, would like to do more on-device editing, etc. Thanks very much and keep up the great work!!
Nice! I love my V20 and the flat screen! I never got the curve screens there really annoying slippery and pointless in my opinion. Atleast the note 8 has less of a curved screen.
Watched this video about a week ago and didn't have time to finish it and excellent job btw. This phone looks absolutely awesome. But what's really impressive is the 260,000 views of this video. Great job. Damn. Still have your day job?
Samsung makes good phones. But the problem is that they may be underpowered (when it comes to phones under 30k - j7, j5 ....) or they may be overpriced (s8 & note 8) Similar case with iPhone. But LG prices their phones just at a price above the expected range. But after 2 months their price drop and if V30 comes to 40k in October or November it will be far far better than OnePlus 5.
I really love videos like this, really in depth but all the information was easy to take in. I have an upgrade coming up for my phone so definitely going to wait and see how I like this. Subscribed now.
After owning a few iPhones and some of the Sammie Note series devices (Note II, Note III and Note IV model), I switched over to LG's V series devices and haven't regretted it since. I loved the V10 model and later updated to their V20 model when it came out and still haven't had a single issue with it. The Samsung's were fantastic but, also, loaded with bugs that were very annoying such as the red button hanging on phone calls that froze the device to, phone would not dial - input keypad not responsive to various issues with poor audio quality during 101 functions (phone calls) or, no audio at all for that matter. I've still got them and, while the build quality was good and all, I had issues on both T-Mo and Verizon models. On mine, both had wonky software based around a wrapper / GUI interface coded and developed by Samsung. I'm not sure now as it has been a while but, I think problems were rooted in Touch Wiz. I found the V20 to be a step backwards vs. their V10 but, only in regards to the robustness of the build. The V10 was built like a tank and felt nice in the hand. It didn't feel cheap and flimsy. That's the only thing I didn't care for on the V20 was the feel. I am looking forward to obtaining a V30 soon. From the looks and sounds of things, the camera and video capability are very good. The only thing I don't like is the non-removable battery.
I would have traded water resistance to having a removable battery..... I'm going to Samsung since all manufacturers have abandoned the power user. At least I'll have an S-pen again.....
only thing i can see removable batteries being good for, is being user replaceable once they fail. that will be 2+ years down the road and you will most likely be buying a new phone anyway.
Basically, it's a Samsung and iPhone imitation device. I don't understand why LG just didn't stay unique with the removable battery, IR blaster and LCD display. I might as well just purchase a competitor since they all look and feel the exact same now.
Al R are you idiots serious? Literally only 3 phones have the Quad-DAC, and they're all V series. The V30 is the only phone with all of the beast AV modes. It also has 600mhz support for the mobile, so better signal strength.
Well, it looks like they're copying Apple and Samsung now. LG used to be unique with their IR blaster, removable battery and software. Now, LG V30 physically looks identical to both Samsung and Apple.
When you mentioned "nice feeling" from the heptic feedback , did you mean it feels same as the S8 ? Among all the Android phones I find S8 having the best fluidity along with the perfect heptic feedback to give you a pleasurable experience. Is it the non LG (Galaxy) feeling here we talking about?
Awesome video as usual! One question though: what's the screen like outdoors? Brighter than the G6, I hope. I'm having difficulty seeing what's on the screen at times with that one.
Erica according to the rumors the V30 will start at around $800ish, though obviously that's more of a currency conversion rumor. I have a chance to get a Note8 at around $650 brand new thanks to a promotion, but none have been mentioned for the V30. Since you've played with both of the devices, which one would you recommend me to go for? I mostly game, listen to music and consume media with my phone. Battery and software performance matter the most to me. If you could take a sec to give me a recommendation I'd appreciate it tons since you're one of the, if not the, most no-BS and well-informed reviewers on RU-vid. 😊
Hi Erica, good video! I was just wondering if when you get a retail unit, that you could do a static size comparison with the v30 and the G6? Thanks for your continued excellent videos!
Will definitely be looking forward to your review. This looks like a wonderful phone. I skipped the V20 because of my bad experience with the V10, but I'm hopeful LG fixed all my worries in this new version. My V10 died a few months back and LG refused warranty service even though it was a factory defect, so now I'm stuck paying for a pretty brick. I loved that phone, but the battery life was horrible, it got really hot (which is what killed it), and often times the phone got stuck in a reboot loop when after updating LG apps(removing the battery helped, which I'm worried that will happen with this phone except battery is non-removable).
