So, everyone focuses on how much more expensive this phone is compared to previous OP phones. In my mind this is a very specific thing they have done. Kia, Mazda and other Asian auto companies applied this same marketing technique to break into a market that was already crowded. Create a product that is solid if unspectacular, under cut pricing of the current market to get the product in hands and the name on tongues. Then slowly ramp up the product a little each year until it matches the rest of the market and then you can charge the same and compete. All by design.
Exactly, and people knew that from the beginning. The Oneplus One was suspiciously inexpensive, and each model after that was slightly more money. The writing has been on the wall for a long time. Maybe that last $200 jolt caught some people off guard? This is going to be a big transition in customer base for them, will be interesting to see how well it works.
Honestly speaking for 900$ people will buy iphone 11 ...Majority will be satisfied by apple logo the camera and iOS . yeah display and refreshrate is good but it will hardly change tHeir mind ..
Yes! I don't know why you want such high end especifications on a phone, mobile game aren't still taking seriously, just play cod mobile and then any fps game on pc (even cod) and you'll see the diference.
That's exactly what I was gonna say. It seems every OnePlus review from every well-known tech reviewer is biased in one way or other. Just look at the way the reviews of OP devices come out. It's always in unison and most of them will say it's the best phone out there right now. Now compare that to other flagship releases. None of them will have a review on day one. And, none of the reviewers will say it's the best flagship available right now, no matter how good the device is. All in all, it seems OnePlus has all of these reviewers in their pockets. Now, I'm waiting to see what OnePlus will bring next on the table. So far, OnePlus was all about bringing what other top-tier brands offered at a lower price point. Now that they are in the big league, you're supposed to bring innovation to the table. Will they be able to deliver innovative products? I frankly don't think so. You can kick a cleaner UI ball for so long you know...
Well the selfie cam is just unusable in any app other than the camera app. The preview just looks super smoothed out without any quality. The main cams have a great quality but a stuttery preview.
@@ykx777 there's lots of post processing involved and apps like Snapchat only capture the cameras preview. So if the lighting isn't perfect the pictures don't look as good as with other phones. Ik it's an Android problem in general but it's much more noticeable with the 8 pro than my old note 8. The stuttery camera is just a lower fps preview than it's actually when you're filming. The last thing I've noticed is sometimes super flat pictures do just using the vivid filter makes most pictures a lot better when not interested in working on every phone snapshot with lightroom
@@anujdaniel1771 Anuj Daniel Well I just said that the app devs suck and don't allow me to use the camera quality to it's fullest extent. But like I said before it's an Android problem in general.
Honestly I don't know what is wrong with that. I admit that the regular 8 might be a bit overpriced, but people just yell at them what they want and at this point there is no way to keep such a low price tag on them. And prices also grow each year.
@@LAvision morally yea.. but sadly all that matters is bringing in more money... thou i dont think op is competitive enough brand wise for majority of the consumer bade to buy an op phone at that price over the Galaxy or pixel
@@youtubeguyb4647 Honestly, they have a different OS so it's impossible to kill Apple. Even on that battle, sadly the iPhone 11 and SE 2020 will have a sales record.
13:39 hit a nail right in the coffin. The phone is getting heat because of expectations. For the quantity and quality of components, oneplus is really a steal at this price even today.
"Thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it".. This phrase, it kinda automatically pops up in mind now whenever i see his videos coming to an end. And weirdly i look forward to it, lol.
This video is so honest that he just spoke what he truly felt about the phone, the way he was telling is truly exceptional Others are like making scripts and then saying everything without a pause
@@utkarshrajatri They aren't independent. They respond in one way or another to their mother company. No company in this world is independent, if it's owned by a mother company. Yeah, you have the ability to have your say, but the bigger picture / the vision will most likely come from the mother company. Oneplus is basically OPPO phones, targetted towards west while oppo are targetted towards asian countries. It's BBK's way of reaching both spectrums of the market, something that they couldn't have done with Oppo.
@1ceb0xcfbl they can’t increases their sales using the branding BBK, they don’t have the whole budget of BBK, and they are also competing with their sister phones. So leaving the major decisions aside it’s really up to OnePlus to increase their market share which was super low just a few years back.
Seems to me that with the coming " Z" they are going back to their roots. One thing that annoys me about OP users is that with each of the phones' iterations, there were complaints that its got "no wireless charging or effective waterproofing .." So One Plus adds these features...and the price goes up. Now the complaints are " It's gone up in price" What did they expect ? So I'm hoping the Z goes back to one plus basics. A stripped down phone that does what it does really well, - but at a great price.
issue with them "going back to their roots" is that they arent actually going back to their roots to make flagship killers, because they wouldnt want to kill their own business. for example, the oneplus nord does not have a flagship chip like an old oneplus would've, even though it is at a cheaper price point like before
I have like the complete opposite opinion lol I quite like the blue on the phone but I thought he was pointing them out the cases to tell us how fugly they are haha
@@KuroshiKun generally 1+ always highlights the cases with every new phone. I got op6 with all the official cases. So I thought Dave was "plugging" the new cases. I never use my sandstone btw for the afformentioned cracking
Device screen doesn't necessarily set how comfortable it's to use. My last change was from 5,5 to 6 and the 6 inches one is more comfortable. Mostly thanks to screen-to-body ratio, how the body is designed, curved etc. You need to take a lot more into consideration than a screen size.
I don't understand people who want a phone smaller then the iPhones small 5.8 models. I can understand people who have small hands and I guess some people just really like small phones. I'd say 5.5-6.7 should be the min and max for phone size. :-)
At this moment Samsung S20+ in Canada(SPC 20% off + 200 dollars trade in discount for flip phone) is 200-400 dollars cheaper than the oneplus 8 Pro(5% student discount) depending on storage size
@@KuroshiKun they do actually ... like mark from mark's tech and a few more.. the key is those who bought themselves always mention the discounts but the ones who got it for free from the company, doesn't.
@Central Intelligence Agency Dude, I have a crappy Redmi 5 plus with Snapdragon 625 and my brother has note 8 exynos variant. His phone lags in ui, youtube and games while mine is rock solid. He factory reset his phone and it became snappy for like two weeks before returning to be sluggish again.
@Central Intelligence Agency It's worse. If you're buying a flagship why would you settle for a worse cpu? This shouldn't even be an option. If this was a mid class phone sure, why not. But for a flagship? It's a joke.
I own OnePlus 7 mclaren edition and it's pretty annoying to have to bring out the converter all the time I want to use ear phones. I'm not a fan of Bluetooth earphones so this is a bummer.
@@StayReal02 Hi, Could you tell how has your experience been with your phone after all the updates and would you suggest it if the price drops (which should post the launch of One+ 8)
@@HasanTayeeb, my experience with the phone is that everything except headphone jack and the very short amount of SOT battery (around 5 - 6 hours) is that the phone is almost 100% perfect - like in every way!! The camera is actually better than the iPhone 11 Pro max if you want nice Instagram photos. Oneplus 7T pro really shines here. Very vibrant colorful pictures, like you cannot complain if you want to be insta star here.. But the battery is very small, too small. I would expect at least 6000 mah battery if I have to pay 900 euros for this phone here in Sweden... And headphone jack but that's the trend for most phones unfortunately. Unless OP8 has a much better camera than this phone, then j wouldn't even buy OP8 just for the wireless charge system + that ugly camera hole cut on the front screen...
When a phone includes everything what a flagship phone should have, then it costs a lot of money. So it's not fair to expect the phone at a lower price just bcz it has been in the past. Expensive parts costs money 💰
1:20 the reason why One-plus gets this display is because it is a full subsidiary of OPPO. And OPPO by all means, is NOT a small company, it is not that much smaller than Samsung and these displays are custom-ordered panel from Samsung, it is not the BEST they have that is the one on Samsung flagships, but it is the best they offers to other manufacturers . In fact, the one on the OP8 is the same one on OPPO ACE2 and the one on OP8 Pro are the same panel on OPPO Find X2/pro, you can consider OP8 pro as a reskined version of Find X2/pro intended for Western Market at a higher price. the same trick employed by auto makers as Badge-Engineering.
He forgot to mention the OP8 Pro (and possibly OP8) display is 10bit, that's around a billion colors versus 16 million on other 8bit displays like the S20 or iPHONE 11. Also it's display is 444nits brighter this year as well, totaling 1444nits.
Honestly, every single phone is soooo good, i fail to see the need of a "flagship" phone. Heck, 250-350$ phones are amazing. I'm really shocked how good they are.
And not no mention old flagships have crazy good value right now too. Even the Oneplus 7 Pro is a great alternative and it has dropped in price significantly.
Flag ship phones are flag ships because they are the best of the best no compromise options. Budget phoned get you 80% of the way there but that extra 20% of performance is always exponentially more expensive. It's like that in PC gaming with CPUs and GPUs to simple things like a toaster
Dave I want to thank you for how honest and fair your reviews are. You really lay things out plainly and you don't f*** around. This is super valuable.

And a 1+7 pro is better than the 1+8 - better price, no ugly ass hole on screen, better color (nebula blue). Camera? Im not a 16 yo girl who needs to snap everything. IP68? The Oneplus waterproofing is sufficient enough in the rain and if you can drop a 900$ into water, just buy a 150$ phone numbskull. Wireless charging? I think the software part is a matter of taste. I tried both oxygen OS and One UI 2.0 and I'll give a slight edge to Samsung because of the one hand usability. ONE UI is great for those big phones. Besides Samsung packs a ton of features which can be more or less useful but at least you have the choice and that's what I like about Android. But If I had to choose I'd still go for OnePlus cause 3 years of guaranteed updates.

8T may have 120Hz display, a battery bigger than 8 less than 8pro, warp chage 30T and a SD865+ at a more affordable price tag😉 that's how i bought my 7T
That’s how all smartphone brands want to progress. Initially they make a budget phone with great specs to grab the people’s attention to their brand and that’s how they tell the market “hey we’re here to stay” and they keep growing their user base and number of fans until when they think they have enough support from the people and coverage from the media (OnePlus 6T), then they start turning themselves into a premium brand (OnePlus 7 Pro)
Watching MKBHD vids: Lets me dream/want more for my smartphone and other tech Watching Dave vids: Keeps me grounded and see beyond the glitter for efficient spending Good balance I should say 👌
I believe the new display carries the price jump a lot. That a 6.78 inch, 120Hz, *10 Bit* display there. As a 10 Bit panels it can potentially show you up to 1.07 Billions of color combination. It's a huge upgrade from your regular 8 Bit panels featured on most of the other flagships, which can show you up to 16.7 Millions of colors only.
I can feel the relief that he had at the end of the video. Expectations part was really difficult and bold to explain. It was really a hell of a review.👏
I always wait for Dave's review, seriously dude, you're amazingly sincere and talk the way it's supposed to be talked about tech. Not just reviewing specs we all can read everywhere, but making a point about how the product does stand in the market right now. You're the best dude!
My S7 has battery issues ever since I dropped it down a flight of stairs and now depending on the day, it almost burns my hands. Good news is that it survived the fall even without a case (albeit a messed up battery, extreme heat, missing buttons, cracked screen and badly damaged exterior) but it still works! Haha.
@@alien_fgc3218 yeah sorry guys lol exynos should be way way better in the next couple years since they're not using mongoose anymore, they're partnering with AMD for the chips, and they should be the first ones with 5nm and 3nm chips.

Considering how garbage Samsung's GPUs have been tho this AMD partnership should be great for them.
Thank you for your review. I really like this VDO and like how you explain things. It's so honest, valid and very clear. Like all the details you put in and it spot on
Good point. The Samsung's are always more expensive on release but are reduced in price within 6 months whereas the Oneplus phones always stay around the same price. So by the time the Oneplus 8T Pro is released this autumn the Samsung Galaxy S20 will be cheaper. I'm starting to think the only reason Oneplus release two phones a year is to keep the price from falling

Everybody with 2 brain cells understands, that the 7 pro is the real value here. Forget the older 6, 6t, 7, 7t (small, no 90Hz, small batteries) and absolutely forget the 7T pro marketing scam! You regress and downgraded the screen Oneplus! WTF? ALL SCREEN is the future. Even the new K30 and much cheaper OPPO have it. People looks too much on the specs. If you drop your phone into a lake or pool, you are a retard and no IP rating can help with that. For rain, the non-IP coating , which is much cheaper, very much siffices. The OP phones get more expensive cause of popularity and suggestions to use IP68 and wireless shit. We could have had a 600$ phone now get a 900$ gimmick that looks dated.
