For a moment I thought you were going to say all the processing was done on the connected phone and the watch was a just a screen outputting stuff... that would be stupid wouldn't it?

@@k.vn.kNaw, I'm stoked on it too. It means if you need to take it when you travel you don't have to bring two different cables (since I'll always have a USB-C charging cable already), you can just pop the little pad in your bag and you're good.

Battery is a major parameter while buying a smartwatch, kudos to Oneplus for building something like this, it's great to see how it all started for them with Oneplus Watch 1 and how it's going right now.

@afk71afk36

I would also say battery is major for smartphones, together with price. How can Apple continues with Pro series (not Max) that are so poor in terms of battery, recharging time and price? I got one plus 12, I have 14 Pro, seems to see the present future and past. For people that are tech enthusiast and want to have new product every 1-2 years and a great price performances, Chinese products are the only way. One Plus is making everything too good for the price. No way.

They're not real "smartwatches" though. The thing that drains battery in these smartwatches are WearOS and WatchOS which huawei GTs don't have. A watch that I know that have WearOS and can last for weeks are ticwatch pro 3 ultra, which advertised can last 3 days in smart mode and >a month in "essential mode" (time, heart rate monitor, step counter, etc. And thanks to it's dual screen display). Excited to see some progress in the smartwatch market in terms of actually usable battery life. But I’d be remiss not to point out that long battery life on smart watches is not new. Garmin, Coros and others measure in weeks and sometimes months with always on MIPs displays. And even their OLED models tend to be 6+ days in always on mode. They just don’t run Android Wear or WatchOS. Which may be part of the reason they are so good!
@mbazoka
@mbazoka 5 месяцев назад
Thing is, watches not running WearOS kinda all "suffer" from laggy or straight up unresponsive UIs. And when your smartwatch freezes up when you're trying to reply to a notification, it leaves a bad impression on the consumer. Apple Watch might not be the battery champ - but that thing is hard-coded to display at 60fps at all times, and jumping through the UI has that classic Apple-certified smoothness.
@JL1
@JL1 5 месяцев назад
@@mbazokaIs there a need for sixty fps at all times though? Especially on an ultra watch that is marketed as having life saving features and being very rugged, when you’re stuck in the woods you probably dont care about your fps but you carry about having days or weeks of battery life
@mbazoka
@mbazoka 5 месяцев назад
@@JL1 The "need" is there in the sense that anything less is just not smooth. And if it's not smooth, then it "hinders" the user's experience. Technology should be a pleasure to use, not a bother. Apple may have gone in the 'pleasure' direction too far, but you can't deny the results.

I charge my Forerunner (295, I think?) once a week. That’s with about 4-6 hours of exercise tracking (cycling or running) with in-watch GPS. I don’t use it for music playback though, so I don’t know how much that would drain it. I personally could not and would not use a watch that I had to charge every day. I think once a week is too often but I’m not _too_ pressed about it.

I'm a little confused here. I've owned an Amazfit 2 for around 3 years, and charge it once a MONTH. Sure display not on all the time (why?) but it handles all the functions I need including notifications (the main reason I own it)... once a month! A real breakthrough would be kinetic charging from movement. Seriously, I thought the surprise was going to be something in the months, even a kinetic drive module to replace some of the battery.
@BrandonGiesing

Because the Amazfit isn't a "smartwatch" really, it's a glorified Fitness tracker in a smartwatch shape, can't do remotely near all the stuff actual smart watches can do like run full apps and games by 3rd parties. A Smartwatch is basically a full smartphone on your wrist, a fitness tracker only supports like a quarter of those functions but has the benefit of running a lower powered OS because it doesn't need to support all that stuff.

I recently switched to a OnePlus 12 phone and I love it, and as much as I was looking forward for their watch 2 to get, the two deal breakers for me to buy this watch are: 1. One reviewer mentioned that OnePlus will only support the software for 2 years, and 2. There's no LTE version. As a long distance runner who doesn't carry a phone with him, having a means of communication is very important to me, and I was doing that with my Apple watch and now with my Samsung 6 classic. So for now I'll stick to my Samsung watch and hopefully one day OnePlus will come out with the right watch for me.

Always include Huawei platform ( phone/watch ..) into benching, since its technology comes from China completely and may outperform western solutions.

Wait a minute here. How can anyone be happy with a smartwatch with a battery life of between 18 - 100hrs? My Huawei smartwatch only requires charging every 6 - 7 days, even with it ringing multiple times each day whenever I get a WhatsApp text on my phone. And it uses a wireless charger so there are no charging pins or what-not on the back of the watch that can get dirty and affect the contact. Best of all, it cost less than USD200. It also has a sapphire glass face. My first sapphire glass anything....and man, they're really tough. I've accidentally hit or scrape my watch face against hard, metal surfaces a few times and nothing. It's still pristine-looking. I'm impressed.

"Since 2018, Wear OS watches generally have had an application processor (AP) to handle power-intensive tasks and an ultra-low-power co-processor microcontroller unit (MCU) for always-on tasks like step counting and heart rate. The update will let wearable makers offload notification processing to the MCU. That includes the ability to read and dismiss notifications as well as send quick replies. This capability was added specifically for the OnePlus Watch 2, which was also announced today, but Bjorn Kilburn, vice president of Wear OS by Google, says other companies will be able to use it going forward." - The Verge Seems it'll be the norm for Wear OS watches going forward.
