I have done far too much research to feel cocky and confident lol. Although having the knowledge would add to the cocky confidence as far as knowing the ins and outs of the board, which could definitely also bite ya in the ass, because all sorts of unexpected shit can happen, and we aren't always consciously aware of all the ways a nose can dive. One of those things that you just want to allow time and experience to do it's thing, I think.
@EugeneMaynard

I installed them from the get go when I first bought my Pint a year ago. Just like you and many others those nose dives come in the early stages of riding when you have gained enough skill for riding fast but have not learned enough of what actually makes your board nosedive. I ate it hard three times in the first two months. First time through lack of skill going over a large divit in the road, second time was when riding up a steep hill and turning sharply into another steep hill and trying to accelerate up. Third time was when I totally ran the board out of battery! Since then I bought a full-face helmet for longer rides and I ride with a better stance that will help me run a nose dive out. I had not nose-dived for nine months up until a few days ago when I stupidly and unconsciously tried to out accelerate an e-scooter but this time my fangs, my skill and my new stance saved my ass and I outran it with control! Lessons learned over a year, respect the pushback, do not accelerate hard especially on hills, keep checking your battery level and if running below 40% adjust your riding aggressiveness accordingly because your board has less power to keep it balanced! Helmets and pads help accident recovery time! Nose dives are for the most part user error! Stay safe!🙏🏾

I've got hardware store "fangs" on my XR for about 5000 miles now. They are great, almost never touch them down, apart from rare times on uneven ground when accelerating hard. Believe me, it's much better feeling/hearing a little "tick" sound and knowing you just touched, than the same thing without fangs where your board does a massive slowdown and you do a superman impression... They are also fantastic if you like to power up grassy banks. That is always uneven ground and I've never been forced to do a runoff up a grassy bank since getting the fangs. 👍

What are hardware store fangs? Did you simply buy some small wheels and bolt them on?
@wizrom3046
@wizrom3046 Год назад
@@Hakucho64 ... they came from the hardware store, they have a little plastic wheel about 1 inch diameter mounted on a small metal bracket with 4 corner holes. They were sold as drawer wheels or something, this was the smallest size. My main onewheel has 7000 miles on it now and the "fangs" have survived great, although have to admit I dont put them down much. They main time they get used is when powering up a grass slope if the nose touches the ground it does not matter, much better than getting thrown off when the nose used to "dig in" lol. 👍

Better way to learn/practice fang-drag and nose-drag is to start from backward and come to a sudden stop switching to fast-forward all in one movement. You can work into it by rocking back and forth then making it more and more dramatic/exaggerated. Also go into a lower aggressiveness setting. Mission is easier than Delerium but I'd go custom and use a middle middle 5 or 6 to start.

The board does not accelerate based on the pressure you place on the nose. It accelerates based on what direction you shift your weight. You can drop the board in either direction of you shift your weight in the opposite direction and with practice you can do it consistently. That’s the “trick.”

To me the pint was designed for Kidds as it's too small for most adults. I started riding one wheels as an early investor in the company (2014), I own three, the original, the plus and the XR. I've been after them for years to have the board beep when doing pushback. They now have it on the GT, but it's not loud enough. I've had my nose dives, broke a rib or two, So now I keep it under 18 mph. The physics of speed is indifferent and the gossamer vail awaits anyone that challenges it limits.
@baddinosaur1548
@baddinosaur1548 2 года назад
Yes, the Pint, was originally to be cheaper, smaller and it's targeted market was the younger riders, (the hover board market) but the cost pushed it to the what ever market. Future motion is not going to admit this of course. but it's true. When I see grown men on the pint it makes me laugh because I know it was designed for Kidds or the younger market.

Fangs have helped me twice - turned two potentially nasty spills into quick hops off the board.
@Siberius-
@Siberius- Год назад
For people reading comments: One thing to be careful of is false starts and then the board slipping out from under, if one's balance isn't right and they aren't anticipating that it could happen. This should never be an issue if one is aware of it. Then also if one is unbalanced on the board at low speeds, some wacky stuff can happen and the nose can touch and fly away, so when in this situation one should always jump off the board with both feet to just bail out of the situation before they potentially get destroyed. Other than that, fangs seem to be by far the best option for nose-dive safety. slippery bang bumpers are second, but they still have a lot more friction and that's not ideal. Wheels allow one to hopefully instantly recover, or hopefully allow enough time to run off the board for a step or two and go into a roll, rather than with stock bumpers the nose digging in and instantly your body being obliterated with no ability to control the fall. Fangs these days are essentially a bumper and cover the underside and have a convenient handle, which is nice. Just the wheels back then. Edit: Oh cool the gent in the video also has videos on newer versions.

I can attest to the fact that the Fangs do NOT guarantee you'll never nose dive! I ate it hard on mine going up a hill at, what I thought was a pretty conservative speed. But without warning (meaning no discernible pushback that I recall) the board just shut down and I flew forward on the asphalt. Thankfully I ride with safety gear and my elbow guards took the brunt of it.
@brendabalderas2635
@brendabalderas2635 2 года назад
Do you have the one wheel app? Did it give you any warnings? We have a couple clients who broke their leg, ankle and wrist or clavicles with statements just like yours. Its easy and convenient for the company to blame user error, however one client was able to capture a warning sign on video seconds before she nosedived and broke her leg and acl. She was wearing all her safety gear and still ended up in the hospital for a week and has been out of her job for 3 months because she's still recovering. Glad you're okay, but some of their OW came out faulty
@lorendjones
@lorendjones 2 года назад
@@brendabalderas2635 I do have the app. I'll usually start a ride on the app, then the phone goes in my pocket, so any warning would probably not be heard. The app seems a bit flakey, with huge gaps in some rides, so I don't think I'd count on it even if it was able to give warnings.

These fangs will buy you the extra second to ease up on the front end, especially on flat surface , my XR has nose dived when trying to go to fast up a steep subdivision hill, I carve a little when climbing steep hills to avoid the heavy strain on the motor. Yup they work.... have seen a few board failures (sorry refuse to call it nose dive as the board just turns off).... but just yesterday came off a curb a little forward an nose hit and I just rolled for a second. No running it off or stopping. Actually caught me off guard and rode it for a second for sure. Awesome!!!
@carsheaven
@carsheaven 3 года назад
I’m with you on the board failure. I finally had the confidence to hit top speed on my XR and at 17.9mph the nose just hit the pavement. I felt no pushback and there was no indication it would completely stop. It was so fast I couldn’t even brace or move, I just crumpled like a sack of potatoes and ate the pavement with the left side of my body. OneWheel is cool but it’s very dangerous riding it stock.
@VanBourner
@VanBourner 3 года назад
Nosedive can be a board failure but also board user failure. Pushback is a safety feature to warn you before nosedive happens. Of course the board can straight up die (e.g. battery failure) and it will most likely nosedive from inertia. It's like refusing to call it oversteer and calling it a car failure instead... oversteer is a result of ignoring or not knowing how physics of the vehicle work. Yes, you can oversteer because your differential fails and then it is a car failure but generally it is a driver's error. Modern cars try to help you to recover but if you ignore their input (e.g. ESP) then you'll still skid off.
@stevorun9865
@stevorun9865 3 года назад
@@VanBourner oh I get the technical reasons for the motor/software failure all too well haha. It’s actually killed a man and hurt countless others. The reason I call it failure is that it is simply turnoff and leaving you to suck pavement. Yes pushback is the option they promote but it’s simply silly. To make a battery or motor give a “last gasp” push back to tell you it’s overwhelmed is crazy. Why not just reduce power? It’s a design/programming failure. Imagine your steering or brakes in your car just turning off because it’s tired. And don’t get me wrong, I feel it’s only rider error if you feel the pushback. Lots of us have been injured due to this design error, as it’s simply been a lower battery and a sudden up hill or gusts of wind, BANG! It’s actually a joke in my opinion as just cut back power or at least have that as a setting option? Anyway, I’ve whines enough 😂, Fangs are amazing. They continue to save me from time to time. I’m in my 50’s and can’t sprint like in my 40’s haha so I’ve been able to ride out a low low battery/nosedive failure. Also in skate parks the long steep ramps UP allow you to just roll up if heavy on the front. Anyway love my Fangs and won’t ride without them. Oh and I hope OW stops leaving us riders on our faces. 😂
@VanBourner
@VanBourner 3 года назад
@@stevorun9865 Reduce power? The power is what keeps you balanced. You can't simply reduce it, OW keeps you straight up by applying counterforce to the wheel rotation. They can just tell you you are going over the top capability of the motor to balance you. I'd much rather fly forward than cook the electric motor for going over the RPM it is designed for... To bring it to car world - if you'd go over the RPM limiter on your car you'd explode your piston shafts and cams. Hence why you have RPM limiter. And if your brakes are too hot? You get brake fade. There's no warning for brake fade... It's physics. They try to reduce the power by telling the rider to slow down with pushback. If the rider ignores it it shuts down rather than damage itself and then shut down at much higher speed. It is IMO absolutely brilliant technical solution since it teaches idiots to respect physics of the device without introducing crippling damage to the device. Imagine if the coils in the motor fried instead because you simply went over the capabilities of the motor and once you push electric motor over it's capability it starts heating up the coils (as motor turns into generator when you move it). Best case scenario. Worst case your controller board would fry or your battery pack. You'd be livid. And you'd still nosedive but this time because your device is safely dead. And your nosedive would be at much higher speed, introducing higher change of serious injury.

It’s a must for me as just gives me a split second to start running or I’ve even ride out the failure. BTW I refuse to call it anything but a failure! When your solution to a motor being over taxes to kill it and you, it’s a failure! As I’ve said to OW 100x just kill power by 50% instead of just turning off. It’s a programming issue, dummies. Haha.

Having used the fangs myself while they do work if your not on flat ground they may not work at all. I used them on my pint when I swapped to an XR I did not buy fangs again because a float plate will also slide if the nose touches just enough to recover. If you dont respect push back and go fast when it dives fangs are not going to do much neither do the float plates where they work is when your going slower and for some reason the nose decides to touch either from a bump in the pavement or weight not being shifted right whatever it ends up being.

Great video! I’m also a victim of the nose dive, early on for the exact same reason. Glad I had a helmet at the time , hit head fairly hard. I got a different brand then Fangs, then minis .. first brand was the most functional but wasn’t aesthetically pleasing, Fangs was cleaner but touched at very steep angles... minis clean but the slightest of sidewalk cracks etc it “grabs” but have you seen the 3.0?? if not you have to check it out! Wheels touch down slightly earlier and no chance of wheel movement (my 2.1 and minis would rotate slightly at times) and it still looks super clean! The best Of all worlds of all Models I’ve tried! You can actually do super tight slow turns on one of the wheels too. I believe it betters the chance of getting out of a nose dive even more.

Even better than fangs is learning how to properly ride and knowing pushback. Its literally that simple, know that depower nosedive from overcharge down a hill is the worst diveyou can have. Wear a backpack, and if you go down toss your momentum into a roll to the back. The most common injury is separated shoulder or broken collar bone ( lead shoulder )

Nosedive from overcharge? The board just captain morgans on a decline unless you're not riding properly and have your weight shifted to the front as you're going down in which case it will shut off you are responsible for slamming the nose down into the ground.
