Hello folks, welcome to our homesteading journey!
We live on Dja Dja Wurrung country in Victoria, Australia, on an off-grid property where we grow our food, raise animals and live lightly on this earth.
In this video I show a harvest of Australian Brown and Cream Gold Onions I did a couple of weeks ago. I harvested over 7kg of onions as I had been taking a few big ones from this patch over the weeks prior to the final harvest. There is still a section of the longer patch I show at the beginning of the video that it drying now. I harvested it a week later than here because of the wet weather we got.
I hope you find some inspiration and tips in this video. Please remember to comment below. I love hearing from you.
I hope your garden is flourishing!

I'm so glad I found your youtube channel today! We moved out to Waubra two months ago (after 5 years in NZ and before that living in QLD) so I am looking forward to seeing what you are doing while I'm getting the infrastructure up so that we can grow a lot of our own vegetables and fruit. We have a very small flock of harlequin mini meat sheep, and some half grown chicks and ducklings.

Thank you for being here! How exciting to be starting new, I hope your garden flourishes when you start planting. Your mini sheep sound cute. We also have meat sheep which we eat. Look forward to hearing how you go setting up your garden. Amy 🌻

hello.. from northern nsw... do you do companion planting ... if so .. can you offer any advice on mixing flowers and vegetables and any help on this please....

Hello! I don't go out of my way to do companion planting, I rather focus on the soil instead. If the soil is well balanced and has enough calcium for the plants to grow healthy then companion planting doesn't really need to happen. I'll try to explain this more in a video. Thank you for watching!

First season growing onions here in NZ. I have a very few that have sent up flowers, a couple of weeks ago now. Do you recommend pulling them all even though the tops haven’t drooped on any of them? Thanks for clear, informative video

Hey there! I would watch the other onions closely. If more go to flower then I’d pick them. I start harvesting mine one at a time when I need an onion for dinner and choose the ones that look like they’ll flower. If the flowers get too far then the bulbs get woody and aren’t usable. If more of your onions send up flower stalks then pull them all. Onions (like most vegetables) start to set seed when they think their life span is coming to a close. They want to repopulate before they die. Hope that helps! 🌻
