The great thing about my Onion Pickers videos is to give you old timers an opportunity to reminisce about deer camps of yore when living conditions were not comfy. We are the third generation to take over the old cabin, maybe 85 years old.

Only those of us with true deer camps understand the peace and tranquility of being in the woods- I’m up in the. e kingdom of Vermont and over 30 years hunting have seen most small camps either abandoned, torn down or built into larger year round homes. Glad to see there are still those who enjoy the woods as well .

Really enjoyed the video! Your camp is one of my favorites on RU-vid. Missed your deer camp video the last few years. Glad to see you guys are back at it. Looks like a good time was had by all.

I had some surgeries and long recoveries that kept me from deer camp. Last year's camp was cut short by a blizzard. Relentless lake-effect snow off Lake Superior forced the guys out or run the risk of being stranded until April.

Finally!, of all the U.P. deer camp videos I've watched I always wondered why nobody took the time to put chains on. Guess wisdom comes with age. 'Nother thing I noticed (100%) is the windpipe not removed from animal. It's S.O.P. in this area; SE Nebraska and Arkansas. Grew up always hearing the windpipe can spoil the neck meat (especially in Arkansas) if you get a warm spell.

That warm weather is really hard on those unneeded tire chains! LOL😅😂🤣
@sciencetube150
@sciencetube150 9 месяцев назад
The chains are absolutely needed to get us through the 365, permanent mud bog a half mile from our cabin. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there is a Sherman tank at the bottom of that mud bog.

I completely agree Michael Gregory. These guys have more money than Scrooge McDuck wallowing in his bank vault filled with gold coins. They can easily shell out $190,000 for a Argo Sasquatch. Cheap Bas*****s.

I was in Dickinson county in Channing area. Got skunked. Tons of wolf tracks, bobcat, turkey and coyote. Very little deer sign. Still, had a great time. Deer are getting pretty hard to come by south of Amasa
@sciencetube150
@sciencetube150 9 месяцев назад
One of our guys found moose tracks not far from our cabin. Not that Bullwinkle is any threat to the deer population. But yes, deer sightings - doe or buck - are few and far between.
@bubcat54
@bubcat54 9 месяцев назад
@@sciencetube150 I think the wolf population is much higher than the DNR realizes. A group of 3 on trail cams. A cop from Bessemer said he hasnt seen a deer in his last 5 years of hunting the ironwood area.

Over on the east side by the upper tahq falls, it's the same story. Less and less deer. More and more wolf sightings and sign

@mikelesniak5363 Im headed up on the 10th. Gonna bring my coyote call. Bet i call in some wolves. Too bad i cant take one. They're obviously decimating the deer population.

Glad to see you made it to the shack again. And found a deer! And glad to see someone find a good use for a side-by-side. Here, they're a pain in the ass. People use them only to go from bar to bar and getting there they drive them 50 plus mph on 2-rut roads, sliding around corners piling ing up dirt and in general tear the roads up with them making them a misery to drive for other people. And noise all day long..

I'd like to buy an old John Deere tractor and store it near our deer camp. Our friends can us it. But for deer camp we need some old iron to pull our trailers into camp.

Does your drone PIC have his part 107? Required by FAA.
@sciencetube150
@sciencetube150 8 месяцев назад
Remember, if you’re not sure which rules apply to your flight, fly under Part 107. Congress created the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations of Unmanned Aircraft to allow those flying drones purely for fun or personal enjoyment to operate without complying with Part 107. People flying under this Exception are required to comply with all rules for recreational flyers. What are the Rules for Recreational Flyers? The Exception for Limited Recreational Operations of Unmanned Aircraft (USC 44809) is the law that describes how, when, and where you can fly drones for recreational purposes. Following these rules helps keep people, your drone and our airspace safe: Fly only for recreational purposes (personal enjoyment). Follow the safety guidelines of an FAA-recognized Community Based Organization (CBO). For more information on how to become an FAA-recognized CBO, read Advisory Circular 91-57C. Keep your drone within the visual line of sight or use a visual observer who is co-located (physically next to) and in direct communication with you. Give way to and do not interfere with other aircraft. Fly at or below FAA-authorized altitudes in controlled airspace (Class B, C, D, and surface Class E designated for an airport) only with prior FAA authorization by using LAANC or DroneZone. Fly at or below 400 feet in Class G (uncontrolled) airspace. Note: Anyone flying a drone in the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS) is responsible for flying within the FAA guidelines and regulations. That means it is up to you as a drone pilot to know the rules: Where Can I Fly? Take The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) and carry proof of test passage when flying. Have a current FAA registration, mark (PDF) your drones on the outside with the registration number, and carry proof of registration with you when flying. Note: Beginning September 16, 2023, if your drone requires an FAA registration number it will also be required to broadcast Remote ID information (unless flown within a FRIA). For more information on drone registration, visit How to Register Your Drone. Do not operate your drone in a manner that endangers the safety of the national airspace system.

Why did you have to walk the rest of the way? Did the truck break? Would like some footage of hunting as well!
@sciencetube150
@sciencetube150 9 месяцев назад
We had to walk a half mile into camp with our basic gear, plus rifles. Then our neighbors came to the rescue. The 4WD that we had counted on getting us into camp had a computer/electric failure at the worst possible time - just before deer camp. You can't just drive into deer camp with a two-wheeler. There is a 365-day mud hole in the road with ruts that would swallow a VW Beetle.
