I would love for you to do Kylie Minogue specifically from her TV special, an Audience with Kylie, 2023. She sings I Should Be So Lucky accompanied just by a piano. It’s a very different song from the recording. I’d love to hear what you think. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--N_tJmPjItQ.htmlsi=tcjqJReb8ckjm26u

As a guitarist, that finger picking technique is so intricate. It's not easy at all, even for a seasoned player. It's similar to that of Lindsay Buckingham's song Never Going Back Again. Also, her vocal slides are SO SO GOOD!! Thank you Beth for introducing me to Maureen. She is indeed phenomenal!

She has a clip on youtube playing (and singing) Police Dog Blues (more complex than Candyman) when she was 13! I think that was spotted and led to deal to record her album.

Good call. ‘Never Going Back Again’ is brutal to play. Easy to fake it in Open C, I believe. The correct rhythm and in dropped D - I’ll never get it.

I music lover I was told by my wife who had returned from a family visit in the west of Ireland just before Christmas, to told me to watch out this young lady Muireann Bradley, the first I saw her was playing and singing was on the Jools Holland New Eves show, several times during her spot I heard the people at the show cheer as she played, that is a very rare happening. Last night a spent some time trying to locate some videos of Muireann Bradley and found several also her new album, the more I listen the more I came to realise what a most brilliant musician she is. She is very real and natural, I would say that Muireann is the new queen of acoustic blues playing, Rory Gallagher was very similar in the way he played and talked about those old blues masters

That was wonderful! Thank you so much for bringing her to my attention, Beth. Not only is she a great singer, but she's a very talented guitarist as well. It's so nice to see a young prodigy who not only isn't a technician, but is playing some old school acoustic blues. Such a breath of fresh air. I already have her album loaded up in Spotify and will be listening to it as soon as I finish typing this.

Love her voice...expected her to start yodeling but the songs she picks are true, old delta blues right out of Mississippi and the south. She does a great rendition of When the Levee Breaks...the original... and it's great! This whole genre of music is reaching a new generation of young people and that's a blessing for special segments of music. ❤ Nice pick!

Bluegrass and country developed in large part from Irish styles. And country blues had a lot of crossover with those musics. Most of the blues singers in the 20s and 30s played various styles of music but they weren’t recorded because record labels already had those songs and wanted the blues songs specifically.

I know there’s a German tradition of yodelling, but I’ve often been struck by how many Irish singers incorporate it into their style. Two that come to mind are Bono (who used to do it a lot more in U2’s early work - see the line “in a Memphis sky” in “Pride in the Name of love”, where the word “sky” is crisply yodelled) and the singer in the Cranberries, for whom it was the most distinctive part of her singing.

There is a old tradition of Lilting that has had it's influence on Irish music ( where the moniker diddley eye music comes from ) but Muireen and Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries sing in a manner that incorporates a Celtic tradition called keening.

I don’t doubt that Rev Gary and Memphis Minnie and Tommy Johnson (who yodeled through the deeply stirring “Canned Heat Blues”) picked up vocal techniques introduced into America by Irish migrants in the Southeast and Appalachia in the mid-1800s. awllll RIIIIIIIIIGHT! Yes, Maureen is doing a damn faithful interpretation without doubt, but I'd also like to introduce you to the man who probably did more'n anyone to introduce the Rev. Gary to society: the glorious Dave van Ronk. Dave was one of the fixtures and centre-posts around which the early-Sixties New York folk scene revolved. Hell, BOB fucking DYLAN credits Dave as an influence! And Dave was one of the best-known students of the Rev, and could go the deepest into how the man played. I've managed to dig up a couple of YT pieces that I feel best represent what Dave did with this song, one a studio recording from 1964 and another a club gig from 1985, when he was still at the top of his game. I offer 'em both here. 1964 in the studio: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7vKsHqSyLaI.htmlsi=kN6SvxqgmJd9vsds 1985 live: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WMVufY63lt0.htmlsi=FfuGBglzJJFU6roj&t=2192

Lots of guys studied with Davis because of the happy accident that he came to NYC. The late Woody Mann recorded lots of their lessons, and he does a beautiful arrangement of “Delia,” available on RU-vid. He was a far more advanced player than Dave, but Dave’s influence was much broader, thanks to the folkies in Greenwich Village. I took a couple of lessons from him and from Mann, and both were as nice as can be.

A bit pedantic - of course you did not say Muireann was disturbed but you used 'disturbing' generically and that's what I contested. The moment I heard her Police Dog Blues, I knew this was going to happen. She is a genuine phenomenon, and people were bound to jump on her bandwagon. @@haroldsteinblatt2567 100% correct. Her father is such a cool level headed man and she has his temperament and most importantly his love of the blues. Muireann has sparked a huge interest in the genre. It's like a rebirth of all these classic songs with her own individual style. It's magical. You’re quite right. Muireann doesn’t seem to exert a great deal of effort or apply vocal technique. She just bounces along and makes you feel happy.
