It’s interesting as mothers surely more than capable of carrying the babies but they choose not, to exercise and train the babies. ❤

absolutely! i like that they give the babes a chance to fumble and figure things out for a minute, but then step in to help when it’s obvious they need it. space & safety to learn but the very real “okay but we really do have places to be sweetie, come along!” feeling about it all. life has got to be tough to keep up with when you’re that small but he’s got the best family to help ❤

They’re most likely found in groups that the females stay in for life, where they help one another take care of the babies, especially when there’s danger. ❤ Real mothers, sisters, and aunts and cousins.

⁠@@mariehampton740Yeah, I keep hearing different things. They said that the other elephants make a circle around her when mother is giving birth with their backs to the mother to watch for predators. I saw this once but other times it was the mother giving birth while next to other elephants. I know when a baby is still born or dies that the mother grieves intensely and the herd comforts her and then gives her alone time. They are so sweet and so caring. I would love to go on a safari or volunteer.

@@mariehampton740 Yes, I agree. I’ve always loved elephants and those babies are so darn cute. They look so small next to mother’s but much bigger next to a human. There’s a video of British students taking care of a baby elephant and she looks so cute running over to them. Have you been on a safari? Someone said they went but I can’t remember who.

She saw the herd, they were right there. Beside that: elephants can communicate over 8 km distance by infrasound. And she never “panicked”. Why do people make up stuff??

@@Celisar1 Nothing I said was made up; I commented on what I clearly saw. I saw her and her baby walking by themselves. She called our several times, and we saw the herd quickly pulled up, as they usually do in these situations. They even formed that protective wall with their bodies in front of mamma and baby, until they were both up the tiny hill and rejoined the herd.. I've seen several videos where mother and baby elephants have been astray from the herd, and the mamma has to fight off predators who are after the baby. Here, the herd was nearby.

@@TheDarkDresser You didn’t pay attention. The baby elephant is the one screeching- see 0:09 and 0:13. The mother did not make one sound during the entire video. The mother calmly trotted away, about 50 meters, when the herd came into the picture, walking calmly as well.

Yes, very hungry and tired. Moaning all the way while walking in the dry riverbed. Mom encouraged him all the way 🙂.
