Thanks to @Xafrel for making their video and giving me the idea of putting this one out :D 00:00 - Intro 00:47 - Footsteps 02:15 - Walking Animation BGM: Hulda's Retreat - HOYO-MIX Consider Subbing! @GoatLiffy
I noticed that Arlecchino also doesn’t sway her hips nearly as much as the other ladies do. Overall, her posture is noticeably more rigid and formal than the more casual movements of past characters. This makes me wish that other characters could have slightly modified walk cycles so that they can convey their personalities in more ways.
Little details I noticed: Arlecchino actually doesn't have the battle pose (unlike other characters like Raiden who goes into a battle stance after doing 1 or 2 NA). She immediately put away her weapon when she isn't actively swinging it. This most likely is because she sees no reason to use threats of violence to induce fear (edit: current characters have this feature, not just Arle so this point has been proven to be wrong) Arlecchino's hair is marketed as white, but i think it's actually grey (Furina's pure white). This create an effect where she seems to exudes darkness in certain cutscenes (most notable during Archon quests) Her playstyle fits her character. She requires you to get better at dodging unless you have a dedicated shielder. Her pyro infusion isn't timed, so you can take your time (as oppose to Hutao's "fast and loose" character and therefore playstyle). She's patient, she's punishing, she's rewarding and she's self-sufficient.
That last paragraph about Arlecchino's playstyle is why I bid my time getting a new Pyro DPS. I low-key always hated it when ppl recommended HuTao. I just don't like her gameplay. Especially the low HP, big dmg part. My OCD absolutely can't stand it. Arlecchino completely negated that. As long as I can keep her BoL, I'm golden.
Some of the other Fontaine characters share the whole "doesn't have a battle pose" thing! Furina and Chevreuse being the two that I've noticed so far :D
I checked it and Furina and Chevreuse don't have a 'battle pose' either. They too put their weapon away right after each NA. So does Neuvillette but idk weather it's a thing for catalyst users or not
The shoulder thing also is probably stiffer because she's wearing a suit with actual shoulder pad like features, where the clothes are stiff despite her walking gait
Dont think that matters because characters like Ayaka still have jiggle physics in their chest despite having some sort of hard material that would inhibit the movement
hoyo has been crazy lately with recent female char high heel, like Chiori heel is so high that it made her slightly taller than other medium female char. When the others are swimming in shallow water, Chiori actually stand up 😂
Yep when I went into her trial I instantly noticed how her jogging animation is way stiffer than other tall female models like yelans. She doesn't throw her hips to the sides as much as them. Same while walking like you showed. That's also why she bobs up and down more because the hip movement doesn't flatten it out as much. Also she has a new plunge sound when hitting the ground, more juicy. Very cool to see and hopefully they will keep going with this
I love seeing these subtle changes, and thanks for further clarifying more of the differences! I always think that it's little things like this that can really elevate the depth of a game, so I also hope they continue trailing this path!
I didn't really consider that unique cause Lisa and Yelan does it in their skills as well, but she IS still the only who does it for the entire duration of her being onfield!
No heels are practical. No high heels are good for a daily basis lol. There's minor things, but more extreme is that they cause bone problems or arthritis long-term. Fantasy is fun, but ✨️the more you know✨️ lol
Not to mention the higher risk of injury from just existing in them 😂 I worked at a bar for a year and a half and my gimmick was high heels and cute dresses vs the other three girls. The only reason it was possible was the flat floor and it wasn't a long shift. But I've also never worn high heels like that since lmao They hurtie lol
fictionally though it does look cool and honestly it's pretty badass for them to fight so well in heels, i can barely walk in heels let alone run, and forget fighting, i'd fall on my face and get killed 💀
Aside from the discomfort the thinner the heels the more impractical they are, I know those shit are going to be stuck in those griddy metal staircases or floors and painful to balance on metal bars But at least she can stab someone's skull with them 😔
I'm happy that I'm not the only who notice this and I appreciate that they add a small twist on her walking animation; additionally, the way Arlecchino runs downstairs has less bounce compare to other female characters which like you said: more authoritative and refine due to her current rank.
Not just the muscles. It wreaks havoc on basically every joint in the lower half of your body, including the lower spine. Your entire posture is wrong. Humans are not meant to walk like this.
I think she also has the highest heels out of all of them. I saw a reddit post about this before about yelan. if you compare the tips of the shoes by swapping, arlecchino's is the shortest literally stiletto(a knife) heels
Arlecchino is very strict and intimidating, those are her main characteristics so I'm really glad to see it implemented in her animations. Suits her perfectly!
Xianyun has a very distinctive walking sound too. it seems slightly different for many of the characters. for some it seems to be more about the other clothes making sound tho. the stepping sound being different is nothing new though. the shoulder sway or firmness however seems to be new and it's a very nice touch
Ever since the sumeru update in 2022 I noticed the difference in sounds the shoes make on each character. It’s very small but the difference was very noticeable to me because I used these certain sets of characters daily and they sounded wayy different compared to 2.8 and to each other. My fav comparisons that at first glance that sound similar but aren’t are Albedo + Bennett Raiden + Yelan So when I got Arlecchino I was pleasantly surprised because it was even more apparent how different hers were! Heels clacking on floors has always been a major nice brain scratch for me. No matter the size.
a lot of characters have unique sounds because of items they have on their clothing, but this one is the footwear itself that is different. the only other character with a unique footstep sound like arlecchino's is nahida because she's barefoot
@@rokanwood7458 so like Yelan’s heels hit the ground a lot lighter compared to raiden’s and im sure it’s because the stilettos are completely different in height *and* weight. If you’ve worn heels you’ll get the comparison.
i like that finally a character walks heel first it bothered me so much with all the others because it looks so akward and irl in heels that's something someone does who can not walk in heels/has never worn them
in my head it is totally implied her heels are blades/knives and the sound just supports it, they can be just metallic but, I take the idea from how much sharper they look in her concept art, guess in game due to technical reasons they are not THAT SHARP, the overall aesthetics, THEY DO LOOK LIKE THEY WERE DELIBERATEDLY MADE WITH THE INTENTION TO CAUSE HARM IN MIND, while still looking like elegant heels, and her teaser when she steps on the guy's head and makes an additional movement and it has a brutal vibe to it, like if she did stab his head with her knife heel shoe thing, I don't know if it is actually farfetched what I'm saying or it would be more farfetched to try to deny it, like it is too obvious, can't cover the sun with one finger
I KNEW HER WALKING ANIMATION LOOKED A LIL DIFFERENT! I always noticed how more sort of authoritative/powerful her walk seemed, it made me feel like a boss whenever I just walked towards something lololol. her aura + the clinks on her shoes made me walk with her a lot she's so fun
they really put more work into arlecchino :D i cant wait to see more small details like this in future characters-- im also hoping for bigger male models cause wriothesley is definitely/slightly more different than the other male models
Awesome video! Really appreciate you highlighting these cool design details. I loved seeing her animations in game and noticed how distinct she was to other characters but it's awesome seeing some of the details that make up that general distinct vibe here in this video. Much appreciated! 😊
3:31 this might also be because (if I remember correctly) she is a dancer/ballerina. Mostly in ballerinas is seen that the have an almost 100% efficient movement example is the dude who plays Captain America, he has no bounce/sway in his movement when running
@@tamecountess thought it, since in some of her trailers she does dancing/acting (if I remember correctly) so I took it as a probable reason why. Not anything confirmed or said by hoyo. Just me speculating on the info I got. And to add, the last time I looked at trailers was when she came out
That’s because she suppose to be more princely and manly than other woman characters. She might be one of the only few characters that act like this. But I’m glad she’s a first.
interesting! everything is already very detailed in these character animations and i love hoyo for that but the stuff you pointed out can definitely be added in
The amount of details they put on Arlecchino is just incredible. I noticed the walk animation the moment I saw the leaks, and I knew she will be a great character. I hope in the future they make more characters like her. Great job with this video!
the amount of detail they put into making her unique i was alwasy gonna main her but now it feels like we got tons of love as arle mains when it came to her
You can really tell how stiff she walks when she’s walking down a flight of stairs. Other female models seem to walk in a curvy/springy way while she walks straight down
Also her normal attack sequence go in a relatively perfect straight line. Like with other characters you deviate a little, but Arlecchino still retains a very “trained” and disciplined way of fighting even though her swinging movements are quite big.
Isn't the stiffer shoulder movement is a tall male model movement animation set? I don't think hoyoverse specifically made a new animation for arlecchino. Although i agree with your point, they should make special animation, at least for 5 stars.
yea for tall male model, but they will have to remake the animations for the female model bc with my little modelling experience, you gotta make the model's "skin" stick to the animation sticks (def butchering the name) or smth like that, so its not just copy and paste / reuse?
Not entirely. The tall male model still sways, albeit miniscule in nature. You can compare them when you how the chest textures still turn just that little bit with their shoulders while Arlecchino's remain completely steady.
Only people who are hyper attentive on certain differences and one who have felt/played with a character so long can only notice these tiny details. Interesting enough, I had no idea. Maybe that's why I don't have a girl yet.
Her design is basically to intimidate her enemies like her heels being that way cause she's short so she needed that extra inches and the way she walks menacingly she's basically dressed for intimidations or to hide her soft side only ever showing her strict self.
I noticed these things a few days ago as well. Also, if you look closely, even though she uses the tall female model, it looks like it has been slightly altered compared to other tall females.
Ironically apart from no hip sway, Arlecchino has a pretty perfect model/runway walk (since most will walk heel to toe) but that's often a model's preference. She definitely has some HIGH heels and it can genuinely contribute to back pain in real life. That plus that the heel itself is so thin and comes to a sharp point means not only is the impact worse (no wonder she's killed with her shoes before) but that they would be even harder to walk in. Those heels at that height are a genuine miracle, but a ballet professional would likely have a biit more experience with them, so there's that.
Arle is a special character after all. She SHOULD get this kind of treatment. The archons also get special effects other 5 star characters dont which makes them special as well like the glowing hair and glowing eyes for example. They really went above and beyond for arle though and im excited to see what they have planned for future harbingers and archons!
That was one of the first things I saw after pulling her. Her walking anim is more stiff than others characters, even the adult males. That came with some friends saying "she's bricked up with Fentanyl".
Raiden is different too, her post-slash recovery animations are super long and can be cancelled into next attack in the chain at any point during the recovery animation even when done really late. Since she twirls her her naginata during recovery, it all chains together really flashy. Most other characters don't have such long recovery animations and usually they can't chain into next attack in the chain even half-way into recovery.
Here's a fun little tidbit, heel heavily used in wars back in 1700 or 1800s(?), I not sure the exact time frame. They were primarily used by cavalry because they sit better in the stirrups. They were then turned in to a fashion trend amongst noble men before it became part of a wardrobe for women.
Ive also noticed that most women walk moving their hips like a cat walk but Arlecchino walks like a normal person would do, heel first and not moving too much the hips.
I also noticed that Arleccino doesn't have the tipical standing pose holding her weapon after normal or charged attacks. All other spear characters have the animation holding the weapon after their normal attacks, but Arleccino doesn't.
Arle's top being more sharp is literally only cause she doesn't have chest physics. All other characters have the same shoulders movement, but the bounce at the front in true anime fashion. Arle is finally a proper design for my liking - a combat character, instead of whatever Raiden was suppose to represent with her clothes.
i love that they do this with her character bcs she herself identifies as a father than a mother bcs of yknow, her past. Her taking on a masculine role despite being a woman & being a harbinger than even the traveler cant beat, really shows with her anims. If she have the same animations as the other tall female charas, she would totally look out of place.
ive already noticed her walking animation seems different from her demo. and when i got her, i tried her walking state and still noticed it but couldnt understand whats make it looks different. Thanks to your video i've finally in relieved.
They’re getting better and better at designing characters whether it be ults or overall appearance. One character I have big hopes for is Dainslef considering all the lore he holds I feel like his in game gameplay (if he ever gets to be a playable character) will be very interesting
