Just listened to the musical soundtrack version from Broadway, beautiful song and lyrics in English. Worth a listen-to if you want to know what they are singing, in English.

The boys were singing live on television and in order for the schedule to be kept the audience were asked to keep seated until the very end of the concert. The boys received a well earned standing ovation lasting many minutes once the broadcast was over.

You are very fortunate to live there. I hope to one day tour all of the UK, but especially so Wales. I have an acquaintance who lives in Cardiff, who I would dearly love to visit again. He came to my city on Easter Sunday several years ago and we spent the day together. It was a special day, and he graced me with a gift of the Welsh flag for showing him around. Be proud of your heritage!!!

Tom Heir, who is also featured prominently in their "OBA Academy" video. Look for the one titled " Only Boys Aloud Series 2 Episode 3 inc Connie Fisher" to find it. It is nearly half an hour in length, but well worth the time to watch and see the boys' individual talents. It had me in tears, as they all have such wonderful voices, as the boys were specially chosen for the "Academy" for their talents. Amazing boys, indeed!!!

I believe the young man would probably prefer to NOT be known as "the fat guy." "Stout" or "husky" is much kinder. He and the young man at the other end - Ben Bateman - are probably two of their better voices, although Tom Heir, the blond boy/young man, are all featured in their "Academy" video, and show their talents quite well. I think [not sure] the soloist on the left end, the big, husky guy, may also be on the Academy video, and sings in the "Book of Mormon" skit as Elder Green, if I am not mistaken, although I am not positive about that. They have all matured and have become quite well trained. BRAVO, boys, to ALL of you!!!!! And, I encourage each and every one of you to continue singing, even if just with community choirs!!!! The world needs more good, beautiful music!!!! Keep the valleys alive with song!!!

Only Boys Aloud is a scheme to get boys between the ages of 11 and 19 singing in the tradition of Welsh choirs. Many of the boys have gone on to colleges in order to further their musical careers, some of whom have turned professional in their own rights. Currently Only Boys Aloud have 14 choirs, 10 in South Wales and 4 in North Wales. The project is now in it's 10th year and still attracts over 200 boys weekly to rehearsals. This song was sung in Welsh because it was performed at the annual National Eisteddfod where nearly 99.9% is in the Welsh language. There is a resurgence of the language with the emergence of Welsh language media schools across the nation. Depends on your family background if its the mother tongue and spoken in the home. Some communities especially in North Wales are predominantly Welsh speaking and it is their first language. My guess is that many of the boys would probably be bilingual having attended Welsh media schools but for most English is the first language.

They'll speak English as their first language since most of them are from the valleys - like me. But they'll have been taught their native Welsh as a second language. Even though I can't speak it very well - the teacher we had in comprehensive was too clinical in teaching it - I do know how to sing a few songs in Welsh like Calon Lan, Ar Hyd a Nos and Sospan Fach (which because its so fast has you going phew at the end).

***** The English tried to destroy the language and very nearly succeeded but not quite and it is growing stronger by the day since it is now heard in many parts of the country and on radio and television and they have been making movies in Wellsh for some time. The ancient language it derives from was heard by Julius Caesar when he invaded Britain 2000 years ago.
