Love the enthusiasm toward the C5 from abroad! You actually didn't burn much petrol at all while ideling. The LS1 C5 with M6 gearbox gets between 26 and 32 MPGs when driven civily and 6th gear is used when freeway driving. At 70mph its only at 1800 rpms. Which is often overlooked or unknown about these cars.

That's true! Something the owner was telling me was how surprisingly fuel-efficient it was

@@abriatus the fuel milage is surprising to be honest. He was not lying. I've owned 3 of them and still have the first one I bought brand new for my 25th birthday. It's a much different car now with the modifications I've made. So milage was not in my build plans. But I still enjoy it enough after 24 years of ownership to not part ways wih it.

Corvette's are wonderful cars if you enjoy driving. They are extremely comfortable, and reliable (if you buy a non thrashed unit). I have numerous vehicles and nothing feels like my Vette. Very unique, enjoyable, and smiles per gallon are endless. Cheers from Canada. Atomic Orange C6 Z06 :-)

Hello, this was one of the BEST videos if not the best on Corvette i have seen on RU-vid, i am an older Corvette owner and people here don’t understand i was not born old , i purchased my first Vette new at 24 and there has been a Corvette in my garage for 40 years! 👍👍👍

This is an amazing performance bargain. I just bought my mom and step dad’s 97 C5 with only 54k miles for just $10k!! I upgraded the wheels, tires, shocks, put in a touch screen with Apple car play to make it a little more modern and I still only have about $13k in it total. And it is still FAST even after 27 years!!

Totally agree! Corvettes get overlooked too often due to their stereotypes.

C5 C6 and C7 all have the same feel you are talking about too. C5s are between 6 and 15k USD here.

This put a smile on my face as an American who doesn’t care about the stereotypes as I view them similar to Harley Davidsons, they’re about American power, loud exhausts and raw feeling rather than comfort, numbers or stats. My dream car is a corvette and I own a mustang currently and you bring up a lot of good points. And that sound is only even better here in the us where we didn’t have as many regulations at the time 😉

Everything you said is pretty much spot on. I didn't pick on the stereotypes until much later, in Canada I wasn't really aware of it. The C5 came out when I was a teenager, I remember all the specs, I got the diecast models and a pack of magazines I never thrown away, though I never owned one, it was my dream car, the 40 000$ USD corvette. However, even in Canada now these are cheaper than a brand new Corolla, so in the near future, maybe I should get one.... Thanks for reminding me again how nice they are lol.

I completely agree, love the looks and the V8 rumble. these are being bought by so many different people here in Colorado that there are no stereo types only car lovers. I had a V8 cutlass as my first car and have had V8 addiction all my life. im poor and i have 5-V8 vehicles right now and want more, im car crazy.

I agree! C5's are an awesome value for the performance you get. I own a 2003 C5, all black with Z51 suspension and manual transmission. It's extremely fun to own and drive.

Love your video, I live in Canada and own a 88 c4 corvette. I'm tired of hearing about the plastic interior. These corvettes went up against the Ferrari, Porsche etc and beat them in there day. Got to the point they were not allowed on the same race track because they were making them look bad. So the reason the Corvette could beat or hold there own and cost a fraction of what the others did or do today, is because of the cheap interior. So if you cant afford a Ferrari but want the same thrill. You can get a Corvette

Well done! Great to hear a 'foreigner's' perspective, although anyone who loves corvettes like you do is one of us! My sister has a red 2001 C5 & it's beautiful. I had a C4 back in the '90s. Always wanted one more vette, & after a year-long search I bought a 2008 C6 with the Z51 package about 18 months ago. It is an absolute beast & a blast to drive, even, as you said, when I'm not going fast!

Glad to see thst you were able to find a C5 with a manual transmission. Not dissing automatics but the manual transmission is just plain fun when rowing through the gears on curvy roads. While old for todays standards it still accounts well for itself on the track.

I liked the 1995 Admiral Blue. Zora developed that blue, because when I met him in Carlisle PA corvette show, I told him Corvette needed a better blue, like the skies of North and South Dakota...:-) I still like Artic white too with red/black interior.

Another thing that may be worth learning about regarding the US- engine sizes. @3:19 5.7 liter engines are not considered big in the US. We have been treated to big block engines toating as little as 350 cubic inches to as much as 572 cubic inches (9.4 liters!).
@abriatus
@abriatus 5 месяцев назад
That's interesting! So you wouldn't say someone driving a car with a 5.7 liter engine is a particularly big engine over, right?
@epiccowboymemes2042
@epiccowboymemes2042 5 месяцев назад
@@abriatus No. If you look at full sized cars trucks with 5.7 small blocks, there are large spaces on either side to pull out spark plugs/remove valve covers. Vehicles with big block V8s have engine bays that are claustrophobic. The size comparison is that drastic.
@5metoo
@5metoo 4 месяца назад
@@abriatus - It wasn't particularly big in the past, but it certainly is now. 5.7 V-8s have not been common in the US for a number of years . The exceptions are retro muscle cars and pickup trucks, and the *optional* V-8s in those are nearer to 5.0 liters. There are exceptions at the very top end such as the Chrysler Hellcat or Cadillac CT5 Blacking, the latter with a 6.2L supercharged V-8, but mostly at the top end you'll find twin turbo V-6s at about 3 liters. So 5.7 liter engines aren't common except for obsolete car models.

The problem is the first buyer in the US is an old fart who’s worked his ass off his whole life and wants something nice. So they get an automatic transmission and drive it to church and car meets. Then when they’re cheap I can’t find a good one with a 6 speed :D

Yo got alot of stuff right but the last year of the C4 Corvette was 1996.The C5 Corvette was built from 1997 to 2004.I love the C5 and C7 Corvettes.I like the C2 Corvettes and C3 Corvettes.The C6 is alright but that front end would have to be something I would have to get used to.I'm claustrophobic so I dont like any C8's.I believe the C2 1963 to1967, the 1980 to 1982 C 3's;the 1997 to 2004 C5 fastback;and All the C7 Corvettes were the most beautiful Corvettes.

Get one, do it now, but save 3 grand extra to do rubber repairs. The rubber on these things is 20-25 years old, it's nearly doneski if not doneski already. The harmonic balancer has rubber, the weather stripping rubber, and the tires most likely as well, without the tires you may get off with a 2200 rubber repair for the balancer and weather stripping. If you need a windshield rubber yer fked, that's expensive and no one wants to do it because you have to drill a hole or some shit to replace

Buy an 02-04, they have most improvements and least problems. Don't buy if it has magnetic ride suspension Dont buy if there's any check engine light When you test drive make sure the engine gets up to operating temperature oil 160 degrees, takes 10-15 mins of driving, that will reveal any other problems
