ONLY ON XBOX: MechAssault 

BattleTech is actually making a bit of a comeback recently. I recommend anyone who enjoys table top games and sci fi take a look at it.

Nostalgia is real dude. I never played this but dammm this game seems like an underrated gem

Between this and unreal championship, that was my pre-teen early teen years.

Somehow, this was actually a title I missed during the OG Xbox's heyday.

I just got my hands on this in 2020 and I was impressed with how fun and varied the single player campaign was. It is short but it plays great. Crimson Skies, Unreal Tournamwnt and Capcom vs SNK were my Xblive jams.

im 20 years old this yr and i remember watching my dad play this game allll the time. it was always fun to watch. Also i liked the sounds and music of it all. Sad our old xbox disc drive got stuck n jammed. we still kept it all though

I always played the demo that came with the Xbox Live box set. I remember after a day of playing either PSO or Wolfenstein, I would wrap it all up by playing several quick matches of Mechassault. Fun times.

We didn't have internet when I was a kid, but we had a big house with two living rooms. One in the basement and one in the upstairs. We bought two Xbox systems and had a tv in both living rooms. We wired a link cable through the ceiling/floor to connect them, and my friends and family would all play these games together like that. Lots of Halo and Mechassault fights.

"DarkMaster..." I remember that XBL promo video. I think I saw that video on an OXM disc.

Before Halo 2 came out, my brother and I played the crap out of CTF in this game. We made it really high up the global leaderboards the summer before Halo 2 came out.

Had this back in 2005 when I just first moved to the USA. I didn’t understand any English so it took me some time to get the game started. Once I did I was hooked. I loved every minute of it

With the release of MechWarriors 5 I was so lost as to what the name of this game was, I couldn't find it anywhere by searching "Mechwarriors Playstation" until Google finally gave me your channel with the name of the game (: thanks for covering this game, this was a HUGE part of my childhood and that classic Atlas look sent chills down my spine as a kid but it's a look of nostalgia for me now

Mechassault was one of the staples i played so much much on the original xbox. I didn't like the second entry as much but the series holds a special place in my heart.

I didn't have an xbox as a kid, but as a 50yo, I just picked up an orig xbox and MechAssault, and it's a great game! Love it!

I fucking loved mech assault when I played it years ago, I still remember the on foot level, and it brought back the anger that level brought me.

The intro is freaking funny and the game coverage is awesome. I really didn't play much MecAssault, but it's so damn popular.

This game was a good part of my childhood I remember my dad, brother and I fighting it out on multiplayer, and it still brings back pleasant nostalgia

The best thing is that a community of mechassault fans made a server just to play this game and mechassault 2 and you can check out their gameplays in the channel "mechassaultreborn"

I encourage anyone that liked this game to look into Battletech. It is in a golden age right now of new miniatures and support and really making a comeback.

I am with you on this. If they brought this back on the Xbox Series X, I would keep the controls the same, add new weapons and levels, and NOT make any crazy changes to it. This would be a day one purchase for me.

I can still remember flinging hammers across river city in a leveled up promie, lighting people up with PPC&Javs from across the map on stone cold with the often maligned Mad Cat or chasing down flag runners in capture the flag. MA has something for everyone. destruction is the lone wolves who just rack up kills on anything that moves, team destruction had the ultra competitive clans who wanted to dominate the other top teams. CTF was for the strategic players who use team work and clever tactics to complete the objective of mounting a siege to take the enemy flag while simultaneously defending their own. CTF allows the smaller, faster more balanced mechs to shine, juxtaposed to the huge assault class mechs that were the stalwarts of destruction & team destruction due to their raw firepower and larger armor attributes. Then you had Not It & Giant Killers for more light hearted, change of pace type of matches. It was a very polished, rewarding and deep game to play due to the high skill cap. Sure It was a simple game to learn but their was a ton of nuance and massive skill gaps between players, and it was all possible because they focused on the fundamentals, gameplay and controls over flashy graphics and gimmicky features which are guaranteed to fade over time. This game truly stands the test of time, literally 20 years later and this game still holds up in all aspects and exposes a lot of modern multiplayer games for the hollow money grabs that they are.

First online game I played on a regular basis...easy to pick up and play, but it could be really hard against people who were better at strategizing than I was. Picked up Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries for my PC as a result, and so much fun was had!

I remember when my uncle sent me my cousins old OG xbox it was around the time when the 360 just came out and OG xbox games were still in stores…ahhh anyways I remember playing this game during the winter time and man was it fun, nothing but amazing memories with such engaging atmospheres I remember I was just 14 or 13 at the time but damn the OG xbox was the best imo

This was one of my first games

I rarely enjoy playing online multiplayer because it seems like everyone else is an obsessed super-player that knows every exploit and every strategy. I always just have insta-death and zero fun. However, this game was a big exception. I had a good 50/50 mix of wins and losses. I actually had FUN playing other people because they were just normal players like me.

I picked this up years after it came out but never got to play it online, I used the headset with Manhunt before it was banned though.

We're still evolving slowly today. Lol 😂. The mods are wonderful. We now a weapon rebalance available, a weapon rework, restored content and cut content. etc.

Related to The Campaign a interesting little tidbit, the major who communicates with you for most of the game is named Natalia Kerensky which seems to at least somewhat imply that she originated as a trueborn from Clan Wolf (or a daughter of somebody with the Kerensky bloodname) like a lot of the original Wolf's Dragoons. As the game is apocryphal her in canon existence is in question, but interesting little bit, in keeping with the dragoons ties to the clans

I never got to play anything OG Xbox online but I definitely played the shit out of this game, and especially the sequel

God i miss this game. i played way too much of it. i held the #1 spot for CTF and the top 5 for team deathmatch for 3 months( summer break ). i miss the old crew, i wish there was some way to reconnect and see how they are doing. the only guy who i had a hell of a time beating 1v1 was "BOWSOX" or some variant of that gamertag. mine was JuiceBox23. they don't make em like they used to thats for sure. now its all pay to win or buy lootbox/pets/mounts.

Titanfall is solid as far as new mech games but I played mech assault back in the day amazing game

With the recent resurgence in Battletech going on right now (New tabletop content, and new PC games), I am hoping that a new Mechassault happens for XBox/PC with the next few years. I do enjoy Mechwarrior 5 and HBS Battletech, but I am always looking for more Battletech gaming :).

Oh wahahahow. That whole intro was absolutely entertaining for nerds like me. I own a copy of Mechasault but alas, can't get the DLC because there's now way to download Xbox DLC anywhere in the freaking internet. OG Xbox DLC are nearly exinct exept in Microsoft's storage center. I wouldn't be surprised if they deleted it and let everyone to rot with their softmodded WD Black HDD+66MB/s IDE+128MB RAM modded Xboxes. I mean come on, mods are happening allow us to get the DLC by any means period. There are 2 or 3 videos containing the Mechassault DLC and I want it.
