Requirements for being in the group. 1: Be really good at your instrument. 2: Have a weirdly immaculate house, with not the slightest sign of everyday use. 3: wear spotlessly clean clothes that fit with a weirdly immaculate house.
@@Rob.One. I love Brandon but he's a whole different genre death metal with neoclassical soloing leads. He fucking rips. I think Scott's leads have very pop rock jazz feel.
True fans have always seen them as equals. Their name is derived from “polyphony” which is two melodies playing at once in harmony. They play together to make something bigger than their individual selves
@Ludovic Thevenet It is melodies, not pitches. You can have two different melodies that eventually join into the same harmony. That doesn't really work with pitches.
Polyphony is Greek in origin: Poly - many (antonym is mono - one), phony - sound (same root as phonic, used in telephone, tele - far, phone - sound). Polyphony - many sounds. Whether meaning many pitches or melodies, there isn't a distinction. You will sometimes hear digital keyboards or virtual synthesizers described as polyphonic vs monophonic. Old monophonic synths could only voice one key at a time, polyphonic synths could play more than one.
They're a lot closer to being equals than people realized. Glad to see Scott get more solo spots, which really shows the lack of ego Tim has. A real testament to their friendship.
something about Scott’s fluid phrasing complements the quantized-phrasing style of Tim really well and makes unique coherent sound. I wish them all prosperous career in music
I think it’s more than just their quantum phased altitude shifting. They are literally light years ahead of any triangulated triads and blues boxing. Maybe, just maybe someday NASA may find the answers beyond the stars and behind the fretboard that breathes life into these articulated voicings 🤔
Why I love Polyphia, is because everyone shines. There is no lead player, just two amazing guitarists, an absolute unit of drummer, and quite literally the best bassist I have heard, all melded into Americans Band. Tim brings the super electronic sound we recognize, but Scottie brings that screaming metal lead influence, Clay is literally destroying bassist stereotypes with his iconic playing, and Clay is just slaughtering his drums. I love Polyphia.
Tim was popular before the tattoos and is the rightful front man but Scott has just as much talent and has more charisma smiles alot and aint scared tims cool as ice. They’re an amazing group and individually all musically gifted!!
I think Tim loves attention and Scott is just laid back and happy with being the underrated dude that holds it tf down lol every member of Polyphia is amazing, and if they all had the social media presence that Tim had they'd all be just as recognized, but it takes a ton of work to always stay active, and the other dudes prob prefer to just chill.
The solo at 5:43 that he did for Jared Dines is hands down one of the coolest solos I've ever heard. The first 30 seconds are almost entirely natural harmonics and the rest of it has plenty more mixed in.
The only reason Scott's not as popular as Tim is because he doesn't upload enough videos and is less of a content creator than Tim is. Tim is very multi-talented and gives a lot of effort to try to push his brand and do business they both certainly deserve their spots wherever they are. I hope to see more of Scott and even the clays.
Another reason is Tim looks like a fuckin eboy compared to Scott who just looks like a normal guy. The internet tend to simp over dudes whose persona is like an anime or k-pop influenced
@@jasminefears8488 I don't think either of them are necessarily "better" than the other since music is incredibly subjective. Every guitarist has their own strengths and weaknesses.
Thank God this video exists! Let's stop and appreciate how good he is and how influential he was for Polyphia's new sound. All hail Scott! When I get older I want to have a nose like you ahah 😂🤘
its funny, when polyphia started out and was doing more metal stuff, scottie was like the main guitar guy and Tim was the supporting dude. i even remember seeing comments like "Tim doesn't get enough credit he's really good too" and now it seems like that's not the case
Scott lookin' like the real Dracula when playing the guitar, then immediately turns to Muppet's Count von count when he makes a funny face afterwards, haha. It was high time someone put this up for Scott, man's a different beast. Thanks!
2:25 I think this is one of the songs that they play on their live stream, that one where they played unreleased/will never be released songs. I've never seen anyone comment about it this one's cool.
Great vid. No question from me that Tim deserves the attention he gets, but Scott is also a fantastic guitarist who deserves recognition on his own, so nice to see videos like this. I hope we see more of them.
Its a really Organic group of dudes...they all bring something and they let room for other bandmates...thats why they all fly together like birds from our perspective....thats whats awsome i think
Love Tim, but absolutely love Scott. Great sense of melody (but different sense of melody than Tim), and I'm a sucker for the more high-gain players and we know Scott is more of the metal, straight-up shred guy. Awesome how he and Tim are almost on different ends of the same coin but complement each other perfectly.
I was a metal singer back in the 80s early 90s in Dallas Texas, just can’t believe how great you guys are, and really appreciate how you’re bringing back musicianship!! 👍🏼🙏☝️
I like both their playing styles but Scott seems more metally. Tim is more alt n bluegrassy when he plays, unusual for progressive hard rock. Scott is awesome.
Amazing feel, phrasing and note choice, dynamics etc Just a monster player I hate when I see him compared to Tim or having to step out his shadow, they are different players who happen to compliment each other so well
I prefer Tim's playing style, as it was coincidencedentaly similar to my own, but God damn the way Scott just slides up and down the fretboard like butter is impressive. Also he is funny and makes dumb faces
I think everyone in this band deserves equal recognition. Every one of them are some of the best musicians of like ever. Imagine showing polyphia to Bach or something, he would lose his fucking mind. These guys all deserve hella respect
the only reason that tim is more popular is because he doesnt have a typical look with all these tattoos, some people dont even know polyphia but know the "neck tattoo guy". Scottie looks like your average Joe with long hairs but he's still an amazing guitarist
I love Tim but Scott needs his love too. I played some Polyphia songs at a friends party and a friend of mine said “yoooo that’s the worst on Instagram I’ve heard that before”. But I was playing a Scott riff from goose lmao
Tim is a musical genius and no one can even question that. But to my personal taste, Scott phrasing and leads are what have led me to like Polyphia this much.
