like he was some legendary hockey player that was cryo preserved in an avalanche and has awoken unto humanity to help the leafs make it past the first round
@MIS4NTHROPIA Vvv I’m assuming you don’t watch the Leafs much? As a Leaf fan, 2 goal lead with 2 min left is not even close to a guarantee. Lol. Sadly.
Ehlers looked under his bed to make sure Joe wasn't there before going to sleep. If Thornton is a dinosaur he's the T Rex and Ehlers is the goat tied to the pole.
@@speedwack Love it when Joe gets mad - always mischievous however when he gets 😡 it’s great. Needs to come out more especially playoffs. Doug Wilson was a fool to not resign him and not let Pavelski go to Stars as I do not think the Sharks would have struggled as much. Wilson is so blind on Goaltenders and also when it comes to Marleau who I think will finish playing in Seattle then sign a one day contract with 🦈 to retire.
@0:02... the initial entry pick was handled by Campbell. Thornton came back into the defensive zone and received an unexpected slash that seemed to rattle his nerve a bit. He whips his head around pretty quickly to put eyes on the slasher..
@@Timmycoo Spezza offered him 19 when he first signed with us but Thornton declined it saying he'd take 97 as he has worn that number when playing with Canada internationally but definitely agree it's weird seeing a big 97 that says Thornton on the Leafs. Him and Marleau when he signed with us was weird too ha ha but ya sorry to take your team's most iconic players! I hope we can help him with that!
If they ever make a movie about an old ice fisherman who stayed out in his shed until the ice melted under him, Thornton would be perfect for the part.
i think all the talk about Thorton not making the leaf roster once all the players are healthy sparked a fire inside him.. i really hope he keeps bringing that intensity, they'll need it come playoff time.
What did Ehlers do to impress you? Got taken completely off his game, and at the end of it spear a guy...because he's afraid to fight a 41 year old. Pretty impressive stuff!!! If the series happens - it will be a lot like last night....Toronto owning Winnipeg in every aspect of the game. Their only hope is if Buck can steal 4 games for them.
@@chrisgilligan4968 Why would Ehlers fight him? That would be incredibly stupid. Nobody is obligated to fight, especially when you are one of your team's most important players and a 4th line enforcer is trying to pick a fight with you.
@@chrisgilligan4968 Ok. It was not even meant to be disrespectful towards him or anything, just an objective description of his current role at Toronto, but at least it stopped you from actually answering the question.
@@mongol62 Why would you engage in "faux toughness" and follow it up with a nasty low spear with no intent of backing it up? That's a better question than why would he fight Joe. If you want to push the call button - you have to face the music when someone answers the bell.
I like the fact that refs and hockey have leeway and can make judgment calls but it's hilarious because hockey has to be the only sport where you never know what they're going to call like how did Simon and Dubois get kicked out of the game for something they were going to do?? lol
It was because the game was almost finished so in a high tension situation like what was going on with tempers flairing they just send them off to avoid any further nonsense and to wrap the game up as quick and safe as possible.
Thornton & Simmonds making sure the Jets would have to play without Ehlers & Dubois while down 2 goals with 3 minutes left. Sometimes, that's what veterans do for a team like the Leafs.
@MoralityPolice.. That aint dirty. Brad Marchand licking Nazem Kadri in the face is dirty. Jumbo Joe and Wayne were just showing Elhers and Dubois that they came to play hockey
@@bowler9749 I wouldn't say that was dirty though. It was unsettling & weird, but I wouldn't call licking someone "dirty" in the hockey sense. What Edler did to Hyman (the knee-on-knee) fits that description more, imo.
I remember when I played like beer league hockey or whatever, and I’d get hagged and hagged and it was always the old people that’ll do that. Like why? lol
in my experience it was the young guys big mouths. The old guys hacked your ankles or gave you a cross checked you in the ribs when the ref wasnt looking.
Big fucking deal, cross checks happen all the time. Spears way fucking worse, and dirty as fuck. No surprise from a team like Winnipeg anyway, a bunch of fucking whiners.
Ilove how duboise made matthews look a like bitch this dec lol we were there all game mattews backed down smiling when ref got between them all scared like he was with perty and chariot in the playoffs lol man matthews is soft as pudding
@@chrisgilligan4968 people respect Joe, I think he was after Ehlers because Ehlers went down way too easy looking for a call earlier. Thornton typically goes after guys like that.
@@xCestLaVie1 Could be. Jumbo barely did anything....it was a couple cross checks across his shoulder pads...I'm sure it left a couple bruises - but not something you spear a guy low for. That was a pretty blatant spear. I'm really pretty surprised they didn't give Ehlers a major and a game misconduct for that. And equally surprised that Joe didn't jump him when they got out of the box. I guess at that point he just wanted to enjoy the win - knowing he did his part to take Ehlers out of the game.
@@douglasstephenson9024 I only know he's originally from Denmark, which means he is NOT from Iceland. The two countries DO have a history together though. Summarized: it's complicated. 😉
@@douglasstephenson9024 I know that. Whilst his mother was Jewish (which makes himself Jewish, too). Bobby was crippled inside, as many geniuses are/were.
The play-by-play guys missed the whole play that kick-started this. When Thornton knocked Ehlers down at centre ice, just seconds before that, Ehlers skated through Campbell's crease and kicked his left skate. Simmons went after Dubois the game before when he came down on the back of Campbell's neck with his stick. All season teams have been targetting the Leafs Goalies and they have had enough of it. Ehlers knew damn well what he did but bitched out when he was caught by Joe doing it.
What did you do? Lol also I miss Wayne Simmonds man he used to bring it in Philly every damn game. Loved watching him skate into a group of opposing players asking for a fight and watching them scatter lol
Yes, and the cross check to Tarvares’ face and then elbowing him as well isn’t dirty. Then the late charge from PLD isn’t dirty either. Imagine complaining that the softest team in the NHL is also the dirtiest.
i like the nice dive by thornton at the end their. always makes me laugh when some guy tries gooning it up, then acts like a pansie when the other player retaliates back.
Joe is just on some mind games, flying around rattling cages trying to get a dangerous good player in ehlers off the ice or at least off his game . And bravo to Jumbo this evening
I think that little flop might’ve been a cause as well. I don’t think Joe liked him doing that, and I wouldn’t have either. Stop flopping probably was the message because later on when ehlers hit him Joe dropped down. Probably a “this is what you look like” message.
@@AGermz yes and you could see it working. Look at how rattled Ehlers was. Thornton, Simmonds and Foligno are all willing to play that role. They are skillful enough that it’s acceptable for them to have these spats with good players and tough enough to back it up when someone asks them to answer the bell. Out of all the maple leaf teams over the past few decades this looks like the most balanced and complete team.
