You can have half-siblings (that means you share one parent but not both parents) You can have step-siblings (means you share NO parents biologically, but one of parents are married to one of their parents) So a "half" is blood/genetics/birth While a "step" is marriage/no blood relation. So if your dad remarries a new woman, that woman would be your STEP-mom because you have no blood relation. And if she had kids with another man they would be your STEP-siblings, but if she has kids with your dad then the kids would be your HALF-sibling. So Patchkit/Petalkit/Larchkit would be Reedshine's step-children (no blood), and they would also be half-siblings to Applekit/Shykit/Willowkit. Because they share Appledusk as dad, but have different moms. Hope that was clear, it's hard to write without gestures or drawing haha

I’d actually argue Reedshine is hated for a rather valid reason That reason being that she blatantly took Appledusk’a side after she found out he cheated on her, helped him get away with his actions scot free, and then had the gall to glare at Mapleshade a grieving mother like it was her fault her mate chose to get with another She-cat (she also unintentionally helped him play victim but that was unintentional) All this makes her a oddly realistic kind of jerk I will clarify I don’t think she deserves to be in the dark forest like some say but she’s definitely not innocent

Ofc she was upset her friend lying to her about having her brothers kits, in which she loved both very much, and being in so much grief scratched her. She followed to make sure she and the kits were safe and probably assumed Maple had it handled. Appledusk should be in the dark forest if you ask me.

Apple was more like a crow feather person. Probably just used Reedshine as a pawn, but he actually took care of Reedshine instead of Crowfeather abandoning his 3rd mate and kit.

While Appledusk was definitely in the Wrong, I agree with you on that, he had no idea Mapleshade would try to seek revenge on him. Why would he? He'd never seen that sort of selfish, angry, vengeful part of her before. Also, Mapleshade was the one who chose to try to make the kits cross a raging river when Apple had TOLD HER EARLIER that they shouldn't be swimming. He was grieving just as much as she was, I don't blame him for blaming her (more of a reply to the second comment than this one tho)

it irks me sometimes that he got that privilege after all the hurt he had caused... I want to imagine mapleshade can meet her kits occasionally at the border. While I don't condon her actions i pity her

while i see your points and agree on a purely moral level, realistically reedshine doesn’t owe mapleshade a single ounce of kindness. she is the one who killed her own kits with her foolish decisions, as well as started this drama. if someone killed their own kids i wouldn’t exactly have sympathy towards them. i agree she certainly couldve been more mature, but its not like she attacked maple flat out like freckle. she didn’t break the code either so she is still in the right. just my opinion however. :>

Well I agree with you on Reedshine but Mapleshade was NOT the villian. Even though she could've reacted better all of her problems and Reedshines problems were brought to them by Appledusk.(Ithink lol don't sue me if I got his name wrong).

Not really. Mapleshade initially attacked Appledusk (he was pinned down) and only went after Reedshine after she interrupted. Nobody really makes Appledusk’s death accurate.

Along with the kits. Those main 4 had no idea what was going on, the kits especially.

Tbh I think mapleshade gets glorified more than she should, sure she lost her kits and that's upsetting as well as finding out her mate is cheating. But resorting to murder did nothing but make things worse. If she would have taken a moment to step back and deal with her grief instead of just trying to kill reedshine and the others then maybe she would still be alive and she could've moved on. Maybe she would've found someone and had a new litter, who knows. But we sadly won't ever for certain

Reed told Maple the truth about the problems she had brought to the River Clan. There is nothing wrong with telling the truth. Maple is a stranger who just caused Appledusk to collapse, and (from Reed's perspective) she also killed her kittens. Understandably, Reed doesn't think of her as someone who went through a tragedy: from Reed perspective, it was Maple who brought the tragedy at all. This person caused a lot of problems and tragedies. Maple is sad, but the clan suffers because of her: the good atmosphere has been demolished, the Clan hates Apple for being a tratior and everyone is sad about the death of kittens. Reed just agrees with his leader that the person who caused the problems must go. The River Clan is not Maple only hope, she has plenty of places to go. Maple just caused a lot of trouble for the River Clan. Nobody must be nice to her. Yes, Maple experiences grief, but it has brought grief to others. It would be toxic to leave her in the same clan with those who have a ruined atmosphere because of her and who are divided by her. The fact that she did not give her entire life for such a Maple is understandable, justified, and does not change the fact that Reed is basicly good. She has done nothing bad, just make Maple aware that she has caused them problems (which is a fact and just because Maple is sad doesn't mean the whole world can think she hasn't done anything bad to riven clan) and agree with the leader's decision not to let Maple stay with them (which is nothing bad, because Maple has places to go).

Appledusk cheated and blamed Mapleshade for the death of their kits. But he never was malicious or abusive, he cared about his kits and I know he liked Mapleshade and Reedshine.

But even then I don't hate him as much as the fandom makes me "feel" I should (Especially not to make it Dark Forest worthy, a cheater doesn't go into the assemble of cats that ARE in the DF like baby murderers, tyrants, etc, it's uneven af to put Appledusk there, especially since he's canon in Starclan anyways so it feels dumb). She didn’t ask for forgiveness from Oakstar but who knows, maybe she knew if she begged she wouldn’t be forgiven, she did use his son’s name as a backup to trick everyone in the clan, assuming “She didn’t lie out loud.” That could be another reason why it’ll be rejected no matter what.

That "punishment" has only happened to two cats, Leafpool and Mapleshade. Crowfeather is not punished simply because he was selfish enough to throw his family under the bus and completely disown them, not to mention that OneStar is guilty of doing the exact same thing to his own family. He didn't punish Crowfeather because he was doing the exact same thing he did with the other cats who worked against them in the dark forest. Leafpool was more punished simply because Starclan only needed her to fulfill their own desires, manipulating her and getting her to do whatever, and because Mothflight was an actual jerk. SF (abbreviation) is shown to be a frustrating and annoying apprentice, undermining everyone in her life who has power over her. She does this to her father, senior warriors, and Brambleclaw, who are all simply looking out for her. People often state that it’s “misogynistic bc we’re not letting women have a personality” and to that I say, you obviously are either a child or look for problems which don’t exist. She then is exposed for lying, just like her sister. She is not punished at *all* besides the emotional loss of her partner (her pawn 🙄) and her kits disowning her. Leafpool got the short end of the stick there, and even with her that wasn’t misogyny, that was emotional manipulation. As a deputy, this is where most wish to scream the “misogyny” card. Let’s look at the facts: - SF undermines her leader multiple times, giving up important information. - She equates love to kits, even after her mate apologizes for snapping. - She ignores any communication and antagonizes him, and also gets upset when her sister doesn’t agree with her. - She gets kidnapped by a s*xist group of cats, who admit to using her and the leader she takes along as barter. - She keeps undermining her leader and mate, using her emotional power over him. - She almost dies at the end, inadvertently breaking her mates heart who thought he’d lose her. This is where most try to argue misogyny, and how Bramblestar treats her badly. If anything, she abuses her emotional power over him, controls him, and at the end uses him as a pawn to prove herself right (yet again!) She is the one who walked over everyone else and got upset when consequences followed, and to argue misogyny when people call out her awful political prowess is more misogynistic if anything. A female character can be flawed, just like a male one, but we don’t argue misandry when male victims in these books are washed over. It’s hypocritical, and the misogyny card for cats who genuinely faced the consequences of their actions and a cheap shot that never sticks.

If I’m being honest she did and didn’t force them into the river, by sounding reassuring had them cross which is what she wanted them to do but it got them killed. There’s hardly any signs of him being a bad father as we get no scenes with him with Reedshine’s kits as he’s now dead. And for Mapleshade’s, he was proud that they had some RiverClan blood in them. Being able to swim. I don’t think he was trying to be an awful cat to Mapleshade.

Yes, Reedshine had kits with Appledusk. There’s a fair chance he would’ve left Mapleshade alone and let her continue to live, it’s only when she continues her murder spree is when they meet again and he doesn’t want to fight her, taking his words literally he probably never does want to see her again, not after what she had done to his first litter

The kits died before they even reached RiverClan so it was only Mapleshade that was turned away. I agree that Appledusk was a cheater and used Mapleshade and didn't take responsibility in his role, he said he'd love her but obviously didn't because he turned her away.

The parts of Mapleshade’s Vengeance after her exile happened over the course of like a week at most. If Reedshine was showing, she had to have been at least a month along in her pregnancy, meaning that he got her pregnant while he was still actively mates with Mapleshade.

And he was apologizing to Reedshine for having kits with another cat. The way that the exchange is written makes it very clear that he’s apologizing for having another mate. “I … I am their father.” … “I am so sorry Reedshine, please forgive me.” And she was showing. The narration states, “Reedshine stared at her belly, barely swollen beneath her pelt.” Cats usually don’t find out they’re expecting kits until a few weeks into their pregnancy. All the evidence indicates that he was cheating on both of them.

Reedshine asked him what was going on and after he said he was the father, he turned to her and asked for her forgiveness specifically. Not from his leader or his clanmates, her. Why would he specifically apologize to her about being the kits’ father if they weren’t together?? And she was barely showing, Mapleshade noticed that and reacted to it. Everything points to Appledusk cheating on both of them, it’s weird to deny that when it’s pretty much spelled out to the audience.
