@@LonSeidman I'm a big fan of the Plex stuff... you're the only one I'm aware of doing anything like it and it's GREAT as I am a lifetime Plex Pass subscriber! Having watched you many years I am aware of the fact product reviews drive a lot of your revenue, and you have said before that those reviews help make Plex content possible. Thus why I'm commenting. 👍
@@LonSeidman Question I have 2 ONN Boxes and neither 1 has the Remote with the Backlight (Big Blue Button that say's" Live TV" missing) also when I click on Settings then click on Privacy scroll down there's NO option for Google Assistant or Purchase History can somebody please help? THANKS
@LonSeidman I personally have tested audio DACs with my Onn Pro, and have gotten some to work! I have tested my Presonus Audiobox USB and Audinate Dante AVIO-USB, both working fully out of box. The only DAC I tested that did not work was the Behringer UMC202HD. For anyone interested!
I've tried an 8GB Seagate (powered), but it says the drive is corrupt. Same message for two 4TB SSDs (Crucial x10, Sandisk extreme portable), and a 2TB Crucial x10 (all unpowered). The only thing that worked in my test was a 256GB Sandisk Extreme Go thumb drive (unpowered). All are formatted exFAT, and all work in my Windows Laptop, iPad, or plugged directly into the Android TV port. Also, I tried with a USBC to USBA adapter and a cable with USBC on one end and USBA on the other. I really want this to work because I otherwise love the device. Also, I'm looking forward to the release of the new Google TV Streamer.
I got one. When connected to a Bluetooth speaker it will sometimes default to its own built in speaker for audio. It’s a glitch. Or it won’t give any sound at all until you disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth.
From all the videos of this item that I have watched, it seems there are about 3 different remote controls and it is basically a crap shoot as to which one is in a given box. The one that seems to be the most desirable one is the back-lit one. Did you get the back-lit one with your device? And regardless of the options, how has the voice control with the remote been going with yours?
I got the black remote, no backlight. the remote works great, voice works great. The white remote is the same as the black, just different color. I have the white remote with my original onn 4k 2021 model, it works great now as well, except when I first bought the 2021 onn 4k, the remote disconnected occasionally but was soon fixed by a software update. I guess I like the remote I got because I am already familiar with the key layout as it is the same as the remote from the 2021 box I have.
Thanks for the update Lon. Going to pass on this device. No reason to upgrade from the previous model right now especially if they can’t standardize on a remote. Why pay the same price for a less useful remote?
The onn pro4k box is awesome, works smoothly, 4k picture, hey Google to ask it any ? Like the echo dot . It's a better built of a box .fully sideloaded with so much ,I like it is it worth 50. It's questionable ,but I just think it works great.
You mentioned you were unsure about devices that had a button for remote finder. Well, my Roku Ultra has a button on the side that, when pressed, triggers a remote finder ping. Not sure if it has other functions, like factory reset.
Please, can you tell me if the device is also able to write to the exfat usb? I want a streaming device that is able to read and write to a format that it is not limited by fat32's 4gb limit.
i wonder if you could go into the google home app, and set it to send audio to a different device, for example itself, i know with the google mini I can set it in the google home app to send audio to Bluetooth speakers, or even the no longer sold Chromecast audio, instead of the hdmi device the tv in this case.
Is there a way to turn off the feature when I ask Onn 4K pro Google a question it turns on the tv and speakers to answer the question? If I tell it to turn something on it does without turning everything on, but I cannot find a setting to not have it to just answer using the Onn speaker and not the tv, etc.
You should make a video of you going through your box of stuff. But don't go through it before filming so we get your reaction of "What the heck was this again?" :D
I have the original model for $20 and with the projectivy launcher it’s a game changer. I’m curious to know if you changed the launcher on this, would it negate its Google home speaker functionality.
Thanks Lon! Great video. Do you happen to know if Tailscale will work with this? Trying to maybe get this as a Plex box that I can take with me on vacations and such :)
It should be compatible but it looks like Tailscale is in the process of updating their app and right now it's not installable on any Google TV. It should be there soon though. The extra ram will certainly help. Apple TV supports it too with the added bonus of having it work as a gateway device to non-scale devices on the network.
How about streaming Steam games from a local PC? Can you please test Steam link app, built in Ethernet, USB Ethernet and wifi? Also, if possible, using moonlight and sunshine?
Any way to add internal storage (Flash Drive) and still have ports for a keyboard and game controller? Tried and the USB hub makes in extra internal formatted storage unavailable. Thanks for any tips you can provide.
Hi Lon, do you have any insight about why this is shipping with three different types of remotes? I received mine today and was crossing my fingers that I'd get the backlit version, but no dice. Evidently there's also a third variant with an extra button (or two?). Seems like a total mess!
Lon, though this box is claimed to be 'fully-certified' to work with all the major apps, I have read that it is NOT certified to work with the main BRITISH streaming apps (like 'BBC iPlayer,' 'All 4,' 'iTVX' and possibly others), though it might work on 'Channel 5' and 'Gold.' Even though the ONN boxes are not sold in the UK or Canada, there has been strong interest there and some are paying premium prices to purchase from eBay or other sources. Not only would they be shocked to discover these boxes couldn't access those popular UK apps, but British ex-pats and American Anglophiles would likely feel ripped-off (as FireOS devices ARE certified to work with those apps ... or most)! Anyway, none of the RU-vid content providers are mentioning this issue. Can you ... 1.) Verify if this is true. 2.) Find out WHY they aren't certified, if they're not? Might they be in the future? 3.) Find out if they will work to access popular Canadian and/or Australian apps? Keep up the great work!
@@LonSeidman I suppose. I have no idea what quantities of cash are required for certification. Seems like the demand in both countries would be high (especially with Amazon torquing-off so many customers ... soon to be 'former'). But, I certainly don't know the financials. I DO think that those Brits, Canadians (and possibly Australians) deserve to know the boxes specific limitations before spending their money, though. Thanx for the response. I have been a subscriber of yours for a couple years now.
@@LonSeidmanhi, can a fire tv cube 3rd gen write to an ntfs usb drive? I know it reads ntfs formated drives but i read somewhere it can't write to them and i was wondering if you could confirm it. Also, can this box also write the exfat drives?
Is there a cable to hook multiple streaming boxes together to sideload more boxes at once no one has a answer theres got to be a cable cause i know nobodys sideloading 1 box at a time .
Uh, James, believe it or not, most of us out here only use one streaming box at a time, and would never think of sideloading more than one box. What are you talking about? Are you trying to buy tons of these and mod them and resell them?
Yes, other content providers have shown other launchers can be set-up and used (Wolf launcher, Projectivy launcher, etc). Additionally, apps like 'Button Mapper' or 'Button Remapper' can be used to remap virtually any button (but particularly the four advertising shortcut 'app buttons' at the bottom of the remote (which Amazon blocked on their FireOS devices).
Hi Lon, do you test these off brand Andoid boxes for malware? That's important if you're entering usernames & passwords etc. Where is the list of available streaming channels? Is the box software & apps supported by ONN or Google or both? Thanks!
@LonSeidman HI LON I APPRECIATE THE VIDEO. . I GOT THIS BYT HAVING AN ISSUE WHERE STUFF GOES OFF SCREEN LIKE DOCTOR WHO. THE DOC IS CUT OFF THE LEFT SIDE. RIGHT SIDE THE PROFILE AND SETTINGS ICONS DONT SHOW BUT I CAN CURSER OVER AND USE THEM. ON THAT MENU I SEE THE WIFI AND BT ICONS BUT NOT THE WORDS. I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT RESOLUTION AND DID A FACTORY RESET. I HAVE PICS IF THAT HELPS
Oh but actually, if you have an older tv which requires "overscan" correction, there may be no way to fix it unless the tv includes its own overscan correction. I have seen this with a Mitsubishi DLP TV.
Plugging an adapter into a non gig port doesn't make that port gig. It only can intake data at the rate the installed plug can handle. The adapter is giving false readings.
He's NOT plugging the adapter hub into the 10/100 Ethernet port ... he's plugging it into the USB-A 3.0 port! The adapter is producing CORRECT readings.
