SO I go buy new batteries for the dB meter and combination of the lights flashing and room lights off causes the display to fade out most of the time. Ugh! 😫 At max vol. they are pretty close. The JBL would have a slight output advantage when plugged in, however.
Thanks for the comparison video. I was about to purchase the Klipsch Gig XXL at Costco until I discovered this channel. Because I thought the Onn sounded better than expected against the JBL I decided to check out the Onn and discovered it was on sale at Walmart for $119. Last night I bought 2 of these and discovered that they pair wonderfully. Once paired you can control the volume, lights, bass and all other settings by just adjusting one of the speakers. Super handy!! And the strobe on the back handle actually added a cool effect when up against a wall at night. Even though I agree the JBL 110 sounds 20-30% better, given the Onn is less than half the price of the JBL and they work so effectively in stereo, I honestly think getting the two Onns is almost a "no brainer". Sure, if I was a billionaire I'd get two JBL 310s, but I'm not. And everyone who has heard the two Onns thus far have been really impressed. So mission accomplished... However, I will keep an eye out for the pops/hisses and other quality issues that you say you have experienced. I'll try to listen to these extensively over the next 30 days so I can return them if issues arise. But the biggest thing I wanted to pass along was how easily, handily, and effectively these Onns run as a stereo pair!!
Oh, forgot to mention one other thing that is kind of cool about the Onn speakers that are rarely mentioned in reviews. The onboard FM radio is actually a great feature if you are tailgating and you don't want the game audio to be interrupted every time you get a call on your phone!
I like the sound of the Onn better than the Klipsch. The JBL is just in another league (110 is $288 currently at walmart.com)and worth the extra $$, IMO. It's like two bologna sandwiches or a sirloin steak. 😆
BTW the audio signal input dbs can also affect the output quality greatly. To much in.. will degrade the sound same with to little in.. via the Bluetooth input audio volume. find the sweet spot...
I just picked up an ONN ... it ran 119.00 before tax... the JBL same Walmart I think was around 360 .00 or so... So although I a an audiophile ... I have thousands in stereo gear... I can't see spending the extra for the JBLs unless you are using in a more so pro atmosphere of it's your only stereo setup.. and you want or need it to be portable....
Just got same same deal at Walmart, I bought 2 for $119 per. Although I definitely feel the sound quality for JBL 110 is higher, but given that I can buy 2 of the Onn (and still have change left over) and run those in stereo more than makes up for the 20-30% better sound quality of the JBLs. I will try to use mine a lot the next 30 days to see if I run into any of the quality issues this channel is reporting.
That outdoor video I did pole mounted had the Onn suffering pretty noticeably off axis. Due to a stinkin' copyright claim I had to cut that part of the video out. I was very surprised that this indoor off axis test had the Onn performing much better.
I just bought the onn large speaker. Don't my blutooth app I found a handy eq which boosted the bass further. Also if u use the outdoor setting the bass gets even stronger.
A factor you left out that ... should be considered.. The options on using an addition EQ Atmospheric Audio APP can totally change the sound quality and output... of your speakers.. Thus ... testing with more then one output setup is worthy of examination... prior to conclusions. BTW don't expect the ONN to sound like JBLs they aren't ! JBL uses a proprietary sound chip setup... much like those found in high end head phones.. and audio aux gear.
The Onn Party speakers are just a budget sound amd budget quality. Not bad just not great. I am a Bass head but I enjoy all types of music. I prefer small speakers that punch higher than their weight class. Great review as always, can you play a more bass heavy techno track?
@@JaysStraightUpReviews I had mine for a week. The tweeters (I believe) are beginning to make a snapping/pop sound every so often. Ill be returning it.
@JaysStraightUpReviews no matter what speaker you have if it isn't more than one it isn't true stereo. That's like you saying a car door speaker cranked up with a sub and a tweeter is "Stereo" and I own two 1000's btw so I'm not defending the onn speaker by any means
I’m listening over a small speaker and man that ONN sounds way better than the JBL! More definition and details everytime he switches over. Am I trippin? I need to hear these in person
Hi Jay - I just bought an ONN large party - the one in this video - I am wondering - is it normal to hear a hiss from the tweeters if you use it nearfield facing you in a computer desk setup? I'm really enjoying the sound and the lights are amazing but if I go lower volume on a video that isn't a song, there will be very audible hiss from the tweeter. If there is a quiet part of a song I sometimes hear it also. If I push volume up some more it goes away and if a song is playing, I can't hear this. It's only quiet parts of songs where I can sometimes clearly hear it or if I turn on just like no song and lower volume level. I don't think it's a defect with my unit because it sounds well and normal otherwise with no issues, I think maybe its just a very powerful amplifier built in that gives some white noise if you are running them quiet and you are rather close to it but would like to know if this sounds normal because I wish it didn't have this but I don't want to exchange if they all do.
Great review. I just purchased the onn speaker and waiting to pick it up! Can I ask what microphone that is on the table and where can I review it? Thank you! 😊
Just purchased the ONN ... Why, price, sound, functionality, cool lighting.. wife just retired, so i told her that we're going to need this now.. 😅😅😅 we enjoy the outdoors, so why not a little entertainment.. 😅😅😅
Hello Jay, love from India. Could you please drop a comparison video of JBL 310 tws with 110 VS JBL 710. Really wanna see how they stack up to 710, cos I have a 310 and a 110.
The 110 would add just a little more output to the 310. I would recommend two 310's and I did a video of those against the 710, so check out that video.
Bought the onn Gen 2 wasn't impressed wasn't as loud as I thought it be I had the 110 before I feel like 110 was louder maybe just me I chose 110 over onn
Noticed the front white strobe on your Onn isn't working. I bought the Onn specifically for the radio. It is going to live in my shed at campground for music on the deck. Usually have radio playing all day long there. Replacing a smaller Ion boombox. It will live in my garage in winter. I wish JBL would add wifi to the partybox line. While using at home i want to be able to leave speaker playing while moving around house and yard with my phone. Easily get out of bluetooth range. I have bose soundtouch 10 that is wifi. I want the convenience of using wifi when its avail. The JBl partybox line is expensive. I couldnt justify cost and not have wifi as an option. I will use the onn for the time being until they make the jbl line smart. They added wifi to the charge 5.. hope they add it here too.
If you are using just one speaker, (the ONN) is it still stereo sound? Meaning, is each speaker in the cabinet its own channel, or do you need to pair 2 to get stereo?
When you Bluetooth pair 2 onn speakers and power off 2 at the end of the day , next time you power on both onn speakers do you have to paired them to eacher other again
The overall sound quality and especially the treble is better on the JBL partybox 110 and also I noticed the overall sound is a little smoother and cleaner. Both decent sounding speakers but I would say the JBL partybox overall sounds about $100 better
It would be interesting to see ONN develope a speaker in the $300 range. The sound of this speaker for the price really isn't bad for a budget speaker. JBL sounded real good at 60% for real.
I think that would put them in a tough spot. They get too pricey and people will not buy the Onn and buy something like JBL, which everybody knows is high quality. They have to stay quite a bit less to drive sales.
@JaysStraightUpReviews for size it does really matter but it's needs to be able to fit in a bag. Price doesn't matter and use will be from me and some friends to listen to music
Personally I like the onn sound better because there is more sound like the treble is and bass is more in control the JBL it looks like it's more focused on bass only and high pitches less
@@JaysStraightUpReviews I have both of them already but still I prefer the onn (fresh n Rebel) in our country the JBL is to pressed with their sound but Harman Kardon had the same issue
It doesn't seem like the price difference is worth getting JBL at all and especially as some users noted they got the on Bluetooth party speaker on sale which makes it an absolutely no brainer our opinion and if you can get two awns for the price of one JBL basically that makes JBL a joke and pricing
You may want to subscribe and hit the notification bell. I did the Klipsch Gig XXL vs. JBL Partybox 110 and another video vs. The Partybox Encore Essential back in October.
If you adjust the equalizer on your phone music app, you can make the onn sound twice as good as it does already, i have proven that and its almost a day and night difference, although compared to the jbl it would still come up short with the same equalizer settings lol but the onn with the equalizer adjusted is well worth 100$ less, and for people on a budget like me, i take it,🔥🔥💪💪
Ill tell you how to do it cu i have a onn party speaker your buy 2 of these onn speakers cheaper then one jbl and when you buy 2 of these onn you connect both throw that in yo car you chillin thats what i do
When you watch the teardown videos of this particular speaker and the JBL teardowns you see why JBL cost so much. The quality in the build of JBL is much more solid and the ONN speakers used a lot of glue to hold the components together the JBL was much more secured by multiple screws is just one example
@@honeybadger713 yeah, the JBL Partybox speakers are a wood box inside, with an outer plastic shell. The drivers and components are high quality. The Onn speakers are very cheaply made with inferior components and just a plastic cabinet. There's a reason why the price difference is as big as it is. The quality between the two is also big.
@@JaysStraightUpReviewsI have two of the ONN second Gen speakers for my bedroom I may take them back and get the JBL 110’s . I have only had them two weeks so I’ve still got some time to return them . however right after I purchased these I wanted something for my living room so I went out and bought two of the JBL 710s lol needless to say definitely plenty of power for my home I still like the budget speakers for the back part of the house but I think I want a better sound so I think I’m going to upgrade to the 110s for my smaller speakers. As usual another great video was very good information. I got the 710s for $689 each so after tax the pair of them came to $1490 so I came out pretty damn good I think. 😃
The second gen has a fuller sound, but not as loud as the first gen. First gen build quality was really cheap, like those cheap Chinese speakers you see on import sites. The lights, buttons and overall build on the second gen is more modern looking compared to the cheap-o design of the first gen.
