In this video, I do a review and rating of the Onsra 115 mm airless wheels. I added a brand new "Range Estimation" section to this video, check it out! These wheels are a really awesome offering from Onsra, providing a solid rubber wheel with an aluminum Kegel core inside.
These wheels are extremely soft, and quite heavy, the combination of these two things makes for some pretty aggressive battery usage, but is it worth it? Watch all the way through to find out!
I bought these wheels brand new from someone who decided to not use them, but I recommend you purchase them from Onsra's website here:
www.onsracalifornia.com/colle...
For these wheels, I used my standard 15:40 belt setup on my daily build. The wheel pulleys I use are from Boardnamics, and I really like their high quality aluminum construction. Unfortunately with these wheels, Onsra has made a weird decision with the cores, they are shorter than normal and in the mid-plane of the wheel, there is a small step in the metal, making it impossible to stick my pulley all the way into the wheel. To solve this, I drilled out the 5 holes where my pulley mounts to 7/32" - after doing this, they fit right in perfectly.
This is super easy DIY to do, and your pulleys might work with it anyways, depending on the type and brand. If you're worried about that mod, give me a shout and I'll try to help out with any questions you might have.
For the range estimation, I used a combination of basic Excel formulas, the esk8.news calculator, and numbers I collected. Here's a link to the calculator I used: calc.esk8.news/

Thanks for the great reviews. I love and appreciate all the hard work you're putting into your videos! You said to ask so I will... Please review the Discovery Cloud Wheels 120mm. I have the Onsra 115mm and although I do love them. They just drain my batteries so much faster than my CW 120mm (including my top speed).

Thanks so much for the compliments! I do put a lot of work into these so it makes me happy to hear requests. I definitely plan to do the 120s in the future, I have 105mm CW on hand but haven't done the official testing on them quite yet. Will need to get ahold of some 120s as well, I'd like to test / review both in the same video if possible.

Great video like always very detailed. I have two revel board kits that came with the revel snugs 105mm. Have you experienced these wheels? See if this would be worth upgrading or stick with what I have.
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 2 года назад
Thank you! I do have these new Revel Snugs, they're on my board right now for testing. I've only ridden them a little bit so far, do you currently have the Onsra wheels? If so, the Snugs are a marginal battery improvement with a minor step down in comfort and grip. Also on initial thoughts I think they will wear quickly, they seem like extremely soft rubber - mind you this doesn't translate into more comfort than the onsras

So i just bought these as part of a diy board im building. Im using 220mm BN hangers and adjustable baseplates with their metal 44t/18t pulleys, i built a 12s6p 21700 🔋 pack and am curious what speed these wheels are capable of running in a comfortable manner. My goals are mid 40's maxed out on this board. Never tried speeds this high on wheels with this round shape like on the cloud wheels i have on another board. I like the idea of increased traction , but not the idea of flex causing speed wobbles on a board designed to reach 40's.
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 2 года назад
Hmmm. I mean I can't tell you quite from personal experience on 40+ but I'll tell you that they are good to at least 35. I'm not sure if it's the case for all of the wheels, but the set I got were pretty true in terms of balance. I do wonder how much they would expand at those speeds but for me they seemed to be okay at 35. Sounds like a great build you've got going on there though, best of luck!

Can you show us how to install these wheels? Does this comes with its own pulleys?
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 2 года назад
Which part do you exactly need help with? Are you having some troubles? The Onsra offering does not come with pulleys, however you can buy them separately. I don't think Lycaon is an authorized reseller but it seems like their pulley kit is cheaper. However I'd personally buy Boardnamics metal pulleys instead and widen the holes.

So is good in England cos the roads are pretty bad so battery 🔋 is the problem for this wheels,you recommend to use this 115 ?
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 2 года назад
I would recommend these over pneumatics I'd your board can't support pneumatics. I saw pretty similar battery performance between these and pneumatic, I'd say you get 90% of the pneumatic experience with these. I think things like cobblestone might still be a bit rough but definitely better than normal urethane.

These wheels just look so good. Function seems very good. What's the catch? They're a bit heavy?
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 2 года назад
Yep I summed it up in the scoring section but they suffer from the weight and softness. The feel great but they eat battery like crazy.

How do you think these wheels would do on a foot powered long board ?
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 11 месяцев назад
To be honest, probably not well. They have super high rolling resistance when compared with many other wheels. If you want a big wheel to push, you'll probably want the Dadbod 105's.
@Waz0
@Waz0 Год назад
Would you recommend those wheels over the new cloud wheel rovers?
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 11 месяцев назад
Sorry totally missed your comment! Depends on what you're looking for. I haven't spent any time on the new rovers, the ones with the rubber on them. They look pretty nice, and I'd expect that their traction would be similar to these onsra wheels. However, they will probably not be as comfortable.

I have an onsra all terrain with 6 inch tyres. I was thinking of putting tyre sealant in the tube. Any thoughts on thatidea. Cheers
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 2 года назад
Do you mean tire slime or something like that? I've heard of people doing it and having success. I don't know how often those Onsra tires typically get flats, but if you think it would benefit you, probably not much harm in trying.
@DinnyeYT
@DinnyeYT 2 года назад
My Onsra wheels have lost a lot more material. I have ridden about 180km on them, probably about 110 miles, and the drive wheel diameter is only 110.5mm now. The tread has nearly disappeared
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 2 года назад
Wow that's crazy! What type of terrain were you on? Mine was pretty much exclusively street and bike lanes.
@DinnyeYT
@DinnyeYT 2 года назад
@@RBEMotion Just on streets. I have ridden most of that at high speeds though. 30-35mph most of the time, and maybe even reached close to 40mph once. The highest I logged was 36mph but that was on a nearly empty battery and there certainly were times where I full throttled for quite long on a full battery. All that in super hot weather, 35C so probably about 100F. And the asphalt was super hot to the touch. The wheels got fairly hot too. I guess the sticky compound produces quite a bit of heat due to superb traction? My best guess would be that maybe the temperature was behind the extra wear?
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 2 года назад
Dang yeah that's intense. Yeah they do get hotter than normal due to the rubber flexing. I've been riding during fairly cool temps so I'm guessing higher temp asphalt makes it much worse

@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 10 месяцев назад
Ah sorry for the late reply. That's tough. Pretty hard for me to say since the onsra cores are a little bit shallow. If you've got a drill it won't be a problem either way. I'd guess the answer is yes though.

@@RBEMotion I asked onsra about this recently and they replied that my 10 spoke pully for my zealot x should work. I told them about what iv heard about people having to drill out the hubs but they said that was 3+ years ago and that is no longer an issue. Thats what they said anyway.

If you lose a millimeter every one hundred miles, that's 10 millimeters every thousand miles, they would be worn down to tiny wheels so fast. I think the durability rating should be less. I wonder how small they could get to before the core is exposed and you can't use them anymore??
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion 2 года назад
Hmm... Yeah I mean how much wear goes on your tires depends HIGHLY on how you ride. Not every ride will have the same wear, and not every rider will have the same wear either. I don't think they will wear down "quickly" persay. Several thousand miles is quite a long distance, but I do wonder how long it would actually be before they hit core - I think you'd want to replace them before getting close to that point. I will consider adjusting the rating but I still think that for rubber they are fairly durable

The same wheels are sold by Lycaon at a much cheaper price especially if you also get pulleys and belts.
@RBEMotion

I just looked and for me and my currency they're exactly the same price, 149.99. If you want to buy plastic pulleys it looks like the Lycaon kit is cheaper, but for me, I prefer the Boardnamics metal ones.

These wheels, in my opinion, do not live up to the hype. They wear out extremely fast especially if you like to carve a lot. They are very heavy so much so that I get more range with pneumatics. They seem grippy, yet will suddenly lose grip. They are bouncy so much less stable than a regular street wheel. They are far too soft. I own and have used most street wheels that make sense on eboards. I only use street wheels on the street. They are too expensive to perform so poorly. If you want good wheels that grip and last more than 100 miles buy the Mad wheels or new boosted 105s. The torque board wheels are ok, but not nearly as good as the boosted 105s. I’ve tried the onsra wheels on both evolve Hadeans and the metroboard x. They are fun to slide on, but wear out significantly each slide. I appreciate what onsra is trying to do, but these particular wheels absolutely stink overall. Even the cloud wheels are better and I’m not a fan of those either. I want to go fast and be able to carve deep with confidence. I cannot lie and say that these feel safe at high speeds or carve well. They simply don’t and feel very unpredictable. Thanks for your effort and production. Cheers 🥂
@RBEMotion
@RBEMotion Год назад
Interesting opinion, I have always thought cloudwheels were much worse than these, except that they're lighter and less grippy. Of course, everyone's experiences with wheels will be slightly different depending on ride style, terrain, and weight. I get where you're coming from on most points though and I would agree that I'd tend to recommend MADEsk8 105s over these as well. Anyway, thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the vid!
