I'm taking a doctoral level qualitative research class and you basically summed up in 12 minutes what I couldn't digest all semester. Thanks for the very practical examples to define these terms!
I co-sign all the beautiful sentiments. I am a doctoral student and was struggling with the jargon and terminology. You explained this so well and I am way better with visuals. Being able to rewind and review is so helpful. I immediately purchased your book! I was shocked when someone complained about the price. I think most of us agree it's a steal! Gratitude and blessings! So happy my professor referred us to you!
Why am I just finding this video......OMG I am so thankful. I am struggling in Philosophy and I feel that I was able to understand a semester worth of information in a few minutes.
The way you behave and act as well as talk determines what type of person you are. I spent a little time to understand the concept even if I have attended qualitative class at my PhD undertaking, that's why I still stick to your videos. Keep doing the same. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart.
I really needed this breakdown. After a decade in my field, I jumped from a diploma to a Masters program and found myself swimming in the deep end of all this academic jargon. I now have my head above water and feel ready to take it all on. I am truly grateful. Thank you.
This was extremely helpful. I abandoned the course text because it was a bit dense but after your video I have a clear idea as to what the terms mean and how they relate. Now I feel much more comfortable tackling the text again (and my current MSc module assignment)
Wish I had found your channel 3 years ago when I started my bachelor. Ontology and epistemology now suddenly makes sense and I have struggled to grasp those two concepts for a long time
This is awesome, I pray students are able to see and read this presentation before commencing the development of their proposals. Its a saver, thanks so much. Only a nurse can do this, Lol. Very valuable. Thank you.
I have spent the past 4 days falling into the self-destructive depths of imposter syndrome... Your video is immensely appreciated in simplifying these concepts - THANK YOU!!
your video came after the video I was directed to watch for our research course and it was like a light bulb being turned on. Now you saved me time and my grade too.
I am taking a post-graduate course, after being out of university for 23 years. I had to watch this twice for it to make sense. Thanks so much for your excellent and clear teaching. Very helpful.
I've been doing my PhD for ten years now and your video finally helped me to make sense of how these four aspects relate to each other. I am so grateful. Thank you so much.
I recently started my M.Phil and these two terms have become worst nightmare for capability of understanding, until I saw your video! Thank you for making it so clear and simple!
Thank you thank you thank you. I have been struggling to understand this within my MSc Advanced Practice. The more I read, the more confused I became. This has been the best spent 12 mins of my research module!
After three months on my PhD and countless hours of reading and philosophy lectures thank you for making this simple and clear! Putting this into basic terms has helped me so much.
As a beginner in social research methods, this video proved to be my saviour. The keywords were simplified in a logical way to ease the pain of grasping new concepts.. thank you so much
In the middle of writing, my final university research paper and this has helped me so much. I haven't been able to wrap my head around this in class due to my dyslexia and this has finally clicked something in my brain. THANK YOU.
Nurse Killam, this is amazing. I'm doing a PhD and need to justify my Multi-Methods research, I know there is a lot more to it but these explanations are clear, thank you!
Thank You for have done a great guidance! I have been working with designers, researchers, we all are wrong for working on something, but non of us are working on right true ! So I have to take it go deeply why and where are , it is all from the beginning understand what the real is and true is ! Thanks , continue deeply into what you have shared!
thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'r a blessing. This has helped me finally understand Ontology, Epistemology, Methodology, and Methods after literally not learning it from my MA program.
Thank you so much, I was trying hard to understand these 'fancy' words as you call them. The terminologies were really hard to understand but after watching your video I definitely understand.
Thank you, I'm working on my Ph.D in Clinical Psychology and now just hitting the Research and Advanced Research classes, I was worrying about this, but with this video I've got this! Thank you!!
Thank you for simplifying these research jargons. This is an awesome lecture, well put together, with all the terminologies clearly linked together progressively.
Superb explanation !!! I have been into research since 2019 and have never understood these terms and concepts the way I did today. You have made it so clear and have increased my love and passion for research. Thanks.😊
I love how your explanation just beat those from PhD holding professors who wrote books on the subject. Most books I read on the subject used complex language to explain these concepts. Your top down, easy to understand approach was the missing link and I finally understand what all this means.
What an excellent and compact video. If I may add, REALISM is almost the same as positivism. It is indeed better for analysis, because one is being objective. But in order to get a full understanding of many complex things, one needs to also use an Emish approach. Especially when dealing with political extreems, cultural aspects in order to answer the "why" questions.
Thank you for this. I has REALLY helped me and your book was a godsend in helping me understand the different ontologies and epistemologies that my PhD supervisor was talking about and I was feeling lost and out of my depth because I didn't understand what she was talking about. You have really helped me. Thank you!
This is an amazing video. Other lecturers could have spent hours trying to explain what you just did ... you did it in just 11 minutes and made it sound so easy and clear. Thank you very much.
Your video is very helpful for me. I'm doing a research for my Master thesis and struggling. This helps me get a whole picture of research concepts. thanks a lot for sharing.
Hi, that's what I'm actually doing, getting other explanations for this complex topic. Your video helps me understand better for my Master's thesis. Thank
Well done. You might consider including a quick review of measurement scales for quantitative epidemiology (logical positivism and postpostivism). Also, by examining a research study’s conclusions it is possible to determine what kind of epidemiological stance the researcher has taken and whether their knowledge claims are warranted given the methodology they followed to arrive at those knowledge claims. Regardless of these suggestions, you have done an excellent job of summarizing critical issues that must be resolved in any research study.
I like the way to memorize "eTic" and "EMic" in your show, and it's will be a lifelong tenacity !!Using fishbowl model to explain etic and emit approaches, to me ,it is the best analogy ever .Thank you very much. I am ardently expecting your next video.
+Tim Wu thank you. My next video will be a while as I have a new baby and some health issues I'm dealing with. I hope to get back to it as soon as I can.
Brilliant! It took a half dozen lecturers 2 days to completely confuse me when I started Post Grad... I have since become a Heideggerian however but lacked this clear understanding!
I love you !!! you are genius ! Brilliant!my teacher spent more than 10 hours explaining these. And I was still so confused what was her points, because she didn't give a clear connection between the whole.I really admire you, not only the content but the design also quite brilliant! THank you very much for your work!!!!
i have struggled a whole semester to understand epistemology and ontology and here you are making it easy and fun too....I cannot wait to tackle that paper tomorrow...God richly bless you...
This is brilliant. I had to stop and take stock every now and again but I think I'm FINALLY getting it and can actually use ontology and epistemology in sentences :-) It's also helped me see that I'm actually doing everything the right way around and am instinctively getting it right HUZZAH!
Excellent. As an Master's student I was fortunate to have had an extraordinary political theorist teach the "scope and Methods" course, as distinguished for the Methods course, which of course was uniquely wed to quantitative methods. So I was turned on a long time ago to issues of ontology and epistemology, But alas, that was quite a few years ago and I begin teaching my first undergraduate research methods course in a week.. Because of the lingering influence of that scope and methods course that explored themes of ontology, epistemology and other issues in the philosophy of science, I am committed to offering my students the same opportunity. But it's been nearly 25 years! So I am exploring every avenue to bring these ideas back to me to a sufficient degree that I can hopefully do for them what my professor did for me. Your video was very helpful. (perhaps I should have led with that!)
hi I passed my Post Grad Dip in Applied Sociology now studying for MA (Colombo University, Sri Lanka) thank you so much. your explanations helped a lot.
Thanks Nurse Killiam! This was very helpful. I'm a doctoral student and wanted to get some of these concepts better understood and this video helped to make things much more understandable.
I have been struggling to understand this part of research philosophy and the complex terms. I finally 'understand' what they are and the differences. Thank you so muchhh. Bless you..
Thank you NurseKillam, for the entire semester the professor tried to make us understood ontology and epistemology via research papers...I get all four words through your video and I also took notes! Thank you!
Good to hear. That's why I made this video - my students shouldn't need to sort through all the confusing stuff out there to learn the meaning of terms.
After one year of feeling like an complete idiot, i suddenly understand! THANK YOU! My teachers/professors have something to learn from you! I BIG THANK YOU from Norway!
