Positivism (from "to posit", rather than "opposed to what is negative" )is a philosophical school that holds that all genuine knowledge is either true by definition or positive. Positive statements are distinct from normative statements. Positive statements are based on empirical evidence, can be tested, and involve no value judgements. Positive statements refer to what is and contain no indication of approval or disapproval. When values or opinions come into the analysis, then it is in the realm of normative statements. A normative statement expresses a judgment about whether a situation is desirable or undesirable, which can carry value judgements. These refer to what ought to be. Realism, not Positivism, is the belief that Reality is objective and independent of cognitive construction.
I've been feeling a constant feeling of not quite knowing who I am in relation to my research (not fluffy at all!) after watching this video I now realise I actually knew all along, I just needed to identify with the concepts explained in this video! Thank you!! ALSO - I'd be wary of overusing the word 'fluffy' - it has derogatory connotations. I think this does Scientific research, as a whole, a dis-service - if other ways of research are seen as less 'important' or 'valid'.
Thank you for these valuable videos. Please Please make a video about the "Powerpoint Presentation "of the doctoral defense .For example, I don't know which parts of each section to include because time is so short in defense appointment and I feel like my qualitative project has so much valuable information to offer that I can't really choose which parts to include .... In fact, this presentation file should include what points from each section, especially about the results and findings chapter
Hey Mr. Grad coach can you please make dedicated video for Research drawing tools..... I'm from the Department of Biotechnology currently pursuing my PhD. and struggling with drawing tools..... Can you suggest some drawing tool and can make a video on that please.......
This video incorrectly defines positivism. What is being talked about is POSTpositivism, a very different paradigm. The big difference is that positive states that we can know knowledge with certainty. For example by thinking logically, we can know the truth. Most modern day scientists reject this belief. However, post positivism states that we can only estimate reality. We can never be 100% certain our evidence reflects reality. We can get close and gather mountains of evidence, but never certain.
To whom it may concern, It seems that you are attempting to ridicule me, but it appears that you are only ridiculing yourself. In simple terms, you have fabricated this information without any basis. This does not align with proper research methodology. I suggest that you deepen your knowledge of research methodology in the areas of ontological realism, ontological relativism, and Critical Ontology and Epistemology for Dummies. Please refrain from expressing immature sentiments, attitudes, and preaching and keep them to yourself.
