I use the offline saved map on an old phone with no active service, it will still track your movement. And if I lose the phone in the woods its not a big deal.

I dont think I'll be feeding any servers, algorithms, or companies my hunting data or wilderness info. Wouldn't be surprised if they sell it. Happened on a free motorcycle app I once had.

Great video! I am interested in this, but I most likely will be 90% back country trekking/hiking/camping. Are the options for the phone also the same for a GPS? I have a garmin 64st and am curious if the sync option works for it also. I tried discussing on the site, but didnt really seem to get what I was looking for. Thanks!

I haven't tried anything with OnX and any GPS units. So unfortunately I'm of no help! :P

You can purchase the chip that inserts into your Garmin. The App has more features and your phone has better graphics to view. Your phone GPS will continue to work even with no cell service . Plus the app is cheaper option than purchasing the micro sd chip for your Garmin.

Does the laptop version only work when you have internet access or can you also use this in the field after a day of scouting while still being out in the woods??? I have not been able to get an answer on this..... I want this but what happens if i lost my phone while in the back country & all i have is my laptop back at camp or, a buddys phone - Can we transfer it over to his ???

if you have a laptop with bluetooth or wifi and a hotspot to connect to the internet, i would imagine it would work the same. it's just using gps coordinate reporting on a ping cycle that refreshes every xx seconds. but to take a laptop into the woods that is essentially disconnected from all things internet, it wouldn't work.

Enjoyed your video as usual. I used the discount code someone posted on Archery Talk over Fathers day weekend. Would recommend searching for a discount code before purchasing. Also when I bought Illinois, I asked about surrounding states and OnyX told me I'd have to purchase nationwide? Can anyone elaborate on additional state info?

You can start a track, close your screen, pop it into your pocket, and start walking! Whenever you get to something interesting, just open your phone, add a waypoint, close screen, go back to walking! Easy.

In order to use certain map features, yes. However, one can download map areas (by approximate square miles) and then the map and all its features are available offline. It uses GPS coordinates to determine location, just like when driving, so "cell" service isn't necessary. A subscription also includes access to input into a GPS unit chip if that's an option for you. Hope this helps!

I would recommend better sources. I know this app is only about 40 Percent correct in my area. I am just saying, you could be trespassing.

You can switch between layers in the bottom right corner of the interface when you're mapping. Switch between topo, aerial, and hybrid map overlays.

Walk around. Meaning to circumnavigate. To find the exact boundary line for mapping purposes. Not right through properties. That doesn't help me much to find the boundary.
