I can't tell you how much grief this video saved me! I am (or thought I was) a die-hard paper planner who finally decided to take the leap to move to digital because I was tired of carrying so much around and not having everything I needed at my fingertips. I caved a few weeks ago and impulsively purchased a Remarkable notebook, but was really concerned about connectivity and being able to pull up my notes on various devices. My online searching got me to this video which convinced me to cancel the Remarkable order and give Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus and your OneNote planner a try. I've been using both for several weeks and now I can't imagine going back to a paper planner! Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback. I think you will be happy with that decision. I find myself after nearly two months still using my Air every day over my remarkable.
Was just telling my husband how much I love paper planners and flipping through their pages but this thing... is amazing! And yes to the carrying everything around. Gets so heavy then I end up with shoulder pain. So happy to be able to simplify with this!
Hi Branden, I appreciate the review and your planner system (which I just started using). It's been 7 months since your review - do you still like your Air 2 Plus and are you still using it in your daily routine? Thanks!
I bought my nova air 2 plus two days ago and it might take a week or two to reach but I’m excited. As a remarkable 1 long term used and had to sell it this January I do miss the writing feel and the detoxing feeling of using a e paper tablet. I’m an artist and I daily use my iPad for illustrations but so far I’m sold for nova air 2 and hopefully when it comes here I can start using it for journaling. Writing notes for college. Light sketching my ideas. And reading my kindle library
Branden - GREAT video. Thanks for the deep dive. I am using your planner across Windows, iPad, Mac, Samsung and now trying on Onyx BOOX 10.3”. Love all the cross platform ability. Thank you for a great planner! My only question is when I watched this video it seems like your display on the tablet is running at a higher resolution, what I mean by this is you seem to have a lot more screen real estate than I do. Especially when you first go into OneNote and you’ll see the three columns on the left. It appears to only take half of your screen for me I t goes 3/4 of the screen. Is there a way to set resolution on this device or did you side load a different version of OneNote? Any tips you might have would be greatly appreciated. Even your tool bars at the top of one note look a little bit thinner and are arranged a little bit differently? Thank you very much.🤷🏻♂️
Great video !! Microsoft should provide support for all this e-ink devices. They should build an specific version of onenote for e-ink screens. Do you use the default note app ? What is your workflow? Just using onenote? Another app just to write? what about AI Writer / Writer Plus?. I don't use Notion because it's paid. I use -The pdf calendar of kudrykv latex yearly planner, sync with Autosync app with google drive & Onedrive. -Pushbullet in all my device (including the extension in Chrome) to share notes, links, pics and files. -Spacedesk to use as a secondary monitor when I have to read a lot of stuff and can't send so many links in pushbullet. -Other apps I use: Trello, Google Docs, Google Keyboard, Cx Files (to open files in a folder in the local network) and Eink Browser (is better than the default browser).
Geez Louise, you got a lot happening there. I prefer to keep it simple and stick to using just onenote. I find if I spend more time focusing on my goals and objectives and less time trying to find the prefect solution my performance and productivity far exceed my own capabilities. So many of us look for the prefect solution before we start something. 100% of 0% is 0% but if you can get a goal mastered and it only be 90% effective, you can work to improve that goal and see progress along the way. Not speaking to you, just speaking in general.
Dear Branden, thanks to your videos, i am using my Boox Note A2+ with OneNote! However I experience, compared to the standard "Notes"-app, quite a "delay of recording" when "handwriting" in the OneNote app... I did not that see that happening in your video. Something to do with Settings? Hope you can advise; the combination OneNote / Boox itself is very promising. Thanks, Fons
I use OneNote on my iPhone, iPad, ChromeBox, Windows 10 and Kindle Fire HD 10. Love it. Since I need yet another device it's gotta be a Boox Note Air 2 Plus. I think I am also in need of an intervention.
THANK YOU! There is not nearly enough information about using E-ink tablets with third party apps. I do not want to use their native apps. I want to continue using 3rd party apps because these are always going to be easier to mesh into the rest of my life/ecosystem since they are more widely used. And I also don't want to rely on native apps, I want flexibility to switch around. But there is just so little info, it makes me think they are not good/smooth to use on these systems.
you are my last hope, I have been trying to find a solution to no avaid, how do you get your handwriting so consistent with one note? LIke the pressure sensors are making my notes bolder and skinner very randomly and its very annoying so please help me.
Interesting device looks like a great alternative from Remarkable. Looking forward to some videos on the 2023 planner hope you will be able to implement dark mode support
Hi Branden, I like your video on using OneNote on a Boox Note air very much. Myself I am using a Note Air 3c and I was wondering a few things. In your video I saw that the zoom level in OneNote is different then when I downloaded OneNote. For me it is showing bigger, do you know whether it is possible to zoom out a bit like you are showing in your video?
Great overview!!! Downloaded on my onyx nova air c but can't sign in with my work account, onky persinak account. Says my account doesnt exist? Has anyone else been able to fix this problem?
I was Struggling which e ink tab to get. After watching your video of this and Onenote. There was no other choice for me. Thank. Mt Boox Note air 2 will be here tomorrow. Now which planner should I use? In onenote, or download one,? I am looking at your system.
I’m looking for a spreadsheet app for my onyx nova air 2. But I can’t find anyone who’s done any reviews of them. Key thing I’m looking for is entering data with handwriting and converting to text for every cell And all the functionality (math etc) of an excel spreadsheet. Any recommendations would be welcome. BTW nice how chill you video is.
I purchased your 2023 planner and I REALLY want to love it and get rid of my paper planner. Your OneNote/Planner looks a lot smaller in your display than mine. For example, I have to scroll so far to the right to even see my planner. Where can I adjust that setting to adjust my screen resolution? I didn't see anything in Settings>Sytem Display, and I didn't see anything in the OneNote Hamburger Menu>Settings either.
one note will not work on my boox note Air 2 plus. i get a strange error cannot create new notebook when i am not creating anything, just trying to log in
you may want to look at onenote.com and make sure you have created your first notebook. Also you may want to look to make sure you have storage space available.
How can you run OneNote automatically on startup and keep OneNote running after Boox goes into sleep when not using it? I have to keep restarting it from the app page. Especially when I take a pause to listen to someone and then when I need to take a note, I have to restart OneNote from the app page again. Very cumbersome... looking forward to hearing a solution.
Using the Boox Note Air 2 Plus- How do you get this app? I've downloaded OneNote. That doesn't look like what you're using here. Please add steps to take to purchase.
It seems that because i touch the screen, the device slows down quite a bit. But when i just touch the screen with the pen, the unit is very responsive. Do you know how to solve this problem? Thanks
Thanks a lot for your video. This is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm using OneNote on iPad but the problem is that iPad is too heavy to carry around, and battery doesn't last long enough for my whole-day note taking at work as a psychologist. I have some questions here regarding the usage: 1. I need to take pictures (e.g. my client's writing, my illustration written on paper) and paste them in my OneNote notebook (in order to digitalize for storage). I know this tab doesn't have a camera (all e-paper tab doesn't). Will you have any quick solution to work around it (e.g. using mobile phone to take picture and transfer to OneNote)? 2. I saw that Boox has different versions that run Android. What version would you suggest to give the best performance (including the lesso tool)? 3. How's the security to access the tab? Any password to access the desktop screen like mobile phone? Data security is important for me.
Great video, I was waiting for the 'onenote enabled remarkable' but there is one thing that stops me from jumping on the website and ordering it. I use Onenote on many conferences and meetings in a way that I capture the slide/presentation witm my phone camera and then annotate on it. I presume this isn't doable here :( still my Fold3 seems to be a more versitale option, but I am tempted...
Great video! Quick question, is this synced up with OneNote 365? Or is this saved locally on the device. I'm trying to integrate this into a business and would like the most secure method possible. Thank you!
James, great question. So it does sync with onenote 365. Which honestly is the best way to go for many reasons. If you would choose too, you can set it up that it saves locally only on the device, however there is no way to back it up. Let me know if you have more questions, email contact@brandenbodendorfer.com
Yes, as I use onenote, I don't seem to have any issues with touching the screen, unless I make two points of contact. Generally this is used for two fingers to move the page view. I have found a couple times that my palm and pinky will create this two touch point. Best to rest your hand the screen when possible.
One major feature of digital planning is the ability to copy and paste uncompleted tasks to the next day. In the One Note version on the Onyx Boox Note Air 2, it is nearly impossible to do. The whole navigation system in One Note is awkward. It is way better in the Remarkable version, but unfortunately I gave my husband my Remarkable and "upgraded" to what was supposed to be a Remarkable killer. I wish I could go back. The tech just doesn't seem ready.
Well you are in luck because the Boox supports OneNote which is an application that works with android, windows and apple devices. The Boox runs Android.
@@bodendorfer thanks! My idea is to replace standard tablet by this one using onenote planner because I looking for the hand writting experience as I have with my traditional paper notebooks
So I been going back and forth with this. I believe the menu and text of the system are controlled by the screen DPI, which is a setting you can find under the same screen that you adjust your refresh rate. I find that I like the text small, which allows for more canvass space for writing.
I'm trying to open a mail link in OneNote on my Onyx Boox Note air 2. I've installed the Outlook app and I'm logged in. When I click on the email link I get an error message. What can I do about it?
Yes. If you saved or imported a pdf. You could copy a link to that page and create a hyperlink. From a desktop version of onenote. You could even create hyperlinks within the pdf that is embedded in the page. This is known as paragraph hyperlinks.
Thanks for this review. Really helpful as I am also heavy on note taking with OneNotes. Remarkable doesnt work for me as I cannot give away my notes in Onenote. Some questions 1. Can the touch screen be switched OFF ? 2. Does it allow writing in PDF files and saving those ? 2. Which writing apple/android device gives the best writing experience with OneNote ? 3. On the Boox US store, I dont think the pro pen with an eraser is available. Can I get away without pro pen and use the pen without eraser which is bundled with it ? 4. How good is the writing experience (feel, lag, drag/drop, lasso, draw, cut/paste) in OneNote compared to native Boox app ?
I normally am on wifi of some means, but when I am offline it works perfectly fine. Once you connect to the internet it will sync over your updates. Now if you choose to use it offline, you can do so, however you need to connect to the internet once to sync the planner over to the device. I personally won't recommend this as you wouldn't have a back up.
No it’s not a pdf. Actually created a custom OneNote Notebook. A pdf file would be a continuous run on of pages in a single OneNote sheet. This here is a collection of pages placed in sections in a notebook.
It would be perfect if there is a model with 3700mAh and reduced 1mm thickness by removing the backlight layer. As I learned from the designer's webpage, the backlight adds 1mm. It would be stunning to have a thinnest 4.7mm tablet
Did you have a hard time learning this ink tablet? I've been told is a hard because of all the gestures? Can you transfer files from this device easily?
So I got the device on a Friday and did the video on a Sunday. I worked with it for about 4 hours. It came pretty easy. I will do a video soon on how I set it up with gestures. I would said its very easy to learn. Simple application navigation and most settings are only a click or two away. You can transfer files I know from the cloud apps, I have personally not tried it from my device directly.
@@bodendorfer thank you, can't wait for the next video and I love your planner. I was going to purchase when I was on the site, but was little confused on how to? Is there a download after purchase? Have a safe weekend and I must say you have a calm way of speaking to the viewer so that they understand.
e0ink display refresh rates are still too slow to be an actual tool for productivity. i personally got annoyed and frustrated watching this video even at 2x because of the experience you just went through. i see the progress being made but still a long way from being that additional device that you rely on for only note taking, planning and keeping track of your day/to-dos. especially at the price point, i cannot see the justification for this device. rather use either my phone or tablet/laptop to do what you do. i get a much better performance and screen. given i already charge any of my devices at least daily, the long battery life benefit of e-ink, is not applicable. e-ink is still another decade or two out from being viable for this use case. it needs significant breakthru in performance so user input is snappy and immediate. appreciate you trying to make this look better than it is though.
to your point about distractions that you have on laptops/tablets/phones, are easily remediated by DND mode on any platform. I dont see it being a huge benefit for choosing this device yet. biggest selling point for e-ink displays is battery life, anti-glare (easy on the eye), etc but they yet to make the justification for spending nearly $500 for one more device to carry around yet.
I don't get this obsession with making digital templates look like paper notebooks. If I wanted paper I would use paper. And I would get all the nice benefits of it being a paper notebook. If I choose digital then I want digital. It's never going to be paper. It's not a paper notebook. So why accept all sorts of bad design choices just to then have something that just looks really goddamn stupid on a tablet when you open a digital note?
Have you ever use a planning system? I am not talking about using templates, but an actually planning system. Planning systems are designed to help build productivity and outline the framework in your life so you can achieve success. This is a process and not just a template. Plain paper can't provide that for you. Just like we have paper planners, there is a need for digital planners.
@@bodendorfer bro are you deliberately playing dumb or did you just actually manage to miss my point entirely? I don't give a fuck if you bundle a bunch of templates or if you get offended by someone calling them "templates" you can call them chikawawa for all I care. Has nothing to do with what I was talking about.
The major drawback that you forget to mention is that the Boox devices are incapable of connecting to work or school accounts. This means that you CAN NOT sync your Boox apps like OneNote, Outlook, Teams, etc to your work accounts. I had my Boox Note Air 2 for less than 24 hours before I returned it because of this.
I don’t believe this is correct. As you can with android apps and or you can create a personal account and share it. Sounds more like a permissions issue with your work account than the device.
I connect my Works Outlook and Teams with the Boox UltraTab. I will test OneNote later. I don’t use it at Work, it will be a test to change my workflow as I use GoodNotes on iPad for now. I think that the availability must be authorize by the IT dept for security.
I get it, some of us don't have all the time available, but I have learned that people intend to trust what I have to say, if I take the time to share some background about myself. Lets get to know each other.
